This man _really_ said, “People have to be radically invited into a space to know that they belong there.” *WOW!* I’ve heard my share of pseudo-intellectual nonsense in my day, but this takes the cake. 🤦🏽‍♂️
And in my yearly 50 years on this planet, *never* have I ever felt unwelcome at a stage production because I’m black. Nor have I ever felt unsafe in that setting, and went to several shows on and off Broadway during the 17 years I lived in NYC. I’ve never needed a special, race-specific invitation to the theater or anyplace else to give me a sense of comfort there.
What world is this man living in?! Oh, actually, he made it clear that he’s living in the Jim Crow past. Well, he can stay there as far as I’m concerned while the rest of us - most of us anyway - have moved on.
If being black makes Mr. Harris feel so emotionally delicate, he needs to just own that for himself. Projecting that pitiful self-image onto other black men and women is presumptuous as I don’t know what. Miss me with that! ✌🏼

Well, so much for the desegregation that the prior black generations fought tooth and nail for. 🤷🏻‍♂️

These people just love telling black folks how "unwelcome" they are. This dude is the problem.

I'm black, and this man is hilariously out of touch. I don't even want to get into irony of feeling safe around black people.

The fact that the global minority has convinced people to be afraid of Black folks, but they are literally responsible for deleting entire ethnic groups of people on EVERY inhabited continent, is wild. But go off about "Black on Black" crime tho😂😂😂

1:51 This is so frustrating. Literally arguing for segregation because "culture is different"? You know who else argues things like that? People who argue for stronger borders, less immigration and mass deportation. Why not invite everyone and exchange different experiences instead?

Jeremy O Harris was quoted in The Guardian as saying that “The British invented slavery”. Someone that ignorant about history shouldn’t be taken seriously.

And how do the white actors feel about white audience members not being welcome, when it “definitely” feels so different? I guess that’s irrelevant.

i would like to give thanks to Jeremy O Harris for making this night. Whenever something is specifically Black everyone starts to get angry, upset, even disturbed. It’s very upsetting to see how defensive people are from the community and how angry and annoyed people are immediately outside of the community.
It is stated by Jeremy, “no one is saying by inviting black audiences here, you are uninvited.”
The whole point of this is to acknowledge that black people, and Black Bodies people who are working class, do not have the luxury to see a broadway show multiple times a year.
The US has “integrated” many spaces, We are SUPPOSEDLY an integrated nation. These nights are necessary because: Yes, integration occurred (BECAUSE WE WERE A SEGREGATED NATION!!!which is not just about sharing space, but about the judicial system, and BEING SEEN AS A CITIZEN OF THE USA.) either way, it happened, but the root cause of that segregation has never been dealt with. It is important to have Blackout Nights as a message that This Is A Space For Black People Too. When historically plays and later films were used as propaganda to say “Black people are less then, Black people are stupid, Black people are bad.” Things like minstrel shows the occurred, and continued for a long time, in the early 1830s (though black people did still create spaces for themselves around this time to perform and tell their truths.) Tropes and stereotypes from these plays and films still are seen in pop culture today!
Integration only happened through the DEATHS and Brutalization of black people who fought for their right to have an actually equal experience in this country. Yet still Integration has always been a pity give, a “please take this and stop talking about what we did, it was so long ago now!” -give. When I know that in my family, by the time you reach my great, great grandmother you reach slavery.
Ryan Grainer was murdered by San Bernadino Police on March 9, 2024. He had autism and was having an episode where he had a garden tool in his hand which he was coming toward a cop with, which he was shot and killed for. He was a young person who spoke of kindness in videos I have seen of him and spreading love and just needed help, not to be shot dead. This is the USA in 2024.
It is important that we have spaces where we are “Radically Invited” because we are still not safe anywhere, we are still made to feel unwelcome in many white and upper class spaces. There is still a systematic way that oppression is still controlling AND taking MANY black people’s DAILY lives. I would hope we could understand when Black People are centered it is not to say everyone else is erased, IT IS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE SYSTEMATIC (PAST AND PRESENT) CONSISTENT ATTEMPT TO ERASE BLACK PEOPLE AND THEIR EXISTENCE HERE, THEIR ORIGINS OF EXISTENCE, AND THEIR EXISTENCE IN THE FUTURE. White People hate the IDEA, usually one they conjured up themselves, that they are being told no, when all they have ever heard from this country is Yes! My message to that, Read Before You Speak (Type in this instance). Read Black People’s Work. I am sure people will read this and get upset, or not acknowledge at all. WE CAN NEVER escape though, that we inhabit this place together. Peace cannot be had, when it is only some that get the chance to hold it. Peace cannot be found, when all peoples have NOT YET been liberated. This way we try to stifle others and the land WILL affect us all! It already does!!!!!!!!!!!

He may be very talented as a show director idk that personally but he is obviously promoting blatant racism and I find it odd this clip is not easily found nor the whole video..

He literally says that just because black people are specifically invited doesn't mean white people are uninvited.
He is also speeking about the economical differences of feeling in the theater as a poor person of all colors & the historical notion of black people not being allowed in spaces. While correlating those two circumstances.
There is no monolithic black experience but there is a universal shared experience of being poor & feeling unwelcomed in spaces. So for those who say they have never felt differently in the theater due to your color, thats awesome. I am curious on what your econimic background is & how that plays apart.
Cause I know how I feel as a low income person in a space that isn't made for me even if I am surrounded by folks of the same ethnicity but are in a higher tax bracket then me. Its not great but I still create space for myself & others to push through it and enjoy it.
That is what he is doing

    • @robertcooper5604

@@memuzzi1it’s not very hard. They are in the better seats. Prices range drastically at the theatre. I can’t believe how anyone could say this is a positive thing. It’s a genius marketing ploy to sell out at least one night of a performance. It’s divisive. End of story.

    • @memuzzi1
      @memuzzi1 2 місяці тому

@@robertcooper5604 Yeah that's like saying the person in the rattiest clothes are poor. You're surmising that people with money always cough up for the best seats and will easily part with their money because they have it. I'm inclined to agree it is a marketing ploy, maybe not a very good one because it's divisive. It's definitely bought attention to his play. Take care and have a great day.
