That should not be surprising. Years change and so do people who listen to the music. I personally don't like this version. It simply kills the feel of the lyrics. But maybe people who love this don't give a shit about it. It's a nice foot tapping remix and that's all that matters after getting sloshed in a pub.
"If I have an ambition other than a desire to be a chronic invalid, it would be to meet everybody in the world before I die... and I'm not doing badly."

It's a little anticlimactic to have the the high energy rhythm drop into the regular drabness of the original motif (they could have beefed up the rhythm in that section too).

Weird to know that this version actually did better in the charts then the original that, thank god, is nowadays the iconic song we know today.

The "Englishman in New York" meets the "Fresh Prince of Belaire" theme song...
opening sounds like the opening of Yes' owner of a lonely heart
Yeah
Synth Burst was everywhere in the 80s.
It smothers the original.
The beauty of the original is its simplicity.
100% agree, every remix is flat by comparison to the original. It was such a powerful song
Love this version //////

Sting's famous song about Quentin Crisp.
I read Quintons books.
Not bad at all.
"If I have an ambition other than a desire to be a chronic invalid, it would be to meet everybody in the world before I die... and I'm not doing badly."
Quinton quote?
If so I like it.
I remember buying this in omaha nebraska
I'm pretty sure it was Quentin Crisp, whom i assume the song is about perhaps ? A google search oh his name and this song title might help you out.
Pitch this down slightly and edit out some of the bits like at the start and at 4min, I'd love to be do this edit myself

This is what the original version should have been.
Lol. Please listen to the lyrics and understand what it is trying to convey

A thick slather of 80s production smothering what was a light and airy ditty. Too much, but i've heard worse 80s remixes
The original is better.
LOVE❤
