- Brahms magnificent Chorale « Herzlich tut mich verlangen » is one of the most moving pages from the end of the composer's life. The accompaniment in sixteenth notes seems to open the doors of eternity to us. The Cantus firmus sings on the pedal in the tenor register with the Harmonic Trumpet from the Swell.

Magnifique comme d'habitude.... au fait où avez vous trouvé cette anche de 8" au pédalier?? certainement en accouplant uniquement avec le récit, vu que vous ne l'utilisez pas au clavier, je ne vois pas d'autre solution... ça doit être la trompette harmonique du récit!
C’est bien la trompette harmonique du récit. Le positif a retrouvé la beauté de ses fonds avec les bonnes pressions rétablies.
Good morning! Heartbroken to hear Brahms for this memento for Catherine and Isabelle. I often heard this piece in Vienna on the Walcker organ from 1878, III/62, interpreted by the Titulaire Walter PACH in the Viennese "Votiv-Kirche" -
(Walter Pach, Hans Haselböck 3x Haarlem winner, Anton Heiller 1x Haarlem winner 1950 - at that time Langlais and Litaize in the jury - were organ teachers at the Vienna Academy of Music).
Brahms' apartment was located in Vienna's Karlsgasse, not far from the baroque domed-church "Karlskirche" built by the architect Fischer von Erlach, a few minutes' walk from the "Wiener Musikverein" - there is not only the "Golden Hall", but also the "Brahms- Saal", Klara Schumann played at his inauguration. Liszt don't played in these two halls, but he gave concerts in the old Music-hall of the "Gesellschaft des Wiener Musikvereins" in the Palais Liechtenstein on Herrengasse/corner of Michaelerplatz before demolation - the hall was situated on the 1st floor above the library rooms - a similar acoustic situation as in the " Golden Hall", under the floor of which there is an approx. 1.5 m high space with a false-ceiling - the stairwell was once redesigned, and it resulted in this solution, in terms of the building height - which promoted the acoustics of this famous hall.
On the end of the year 2022 I want to get some of your compositions. -
By the way: Jean Guillou celebrated his 80th birthday in 2010 with students in Vienna -
an came again for Masterclass in 2011.
Brahms and Schumann were also present in a Masterclass on the Mathis organ in Vienna's "Schottenkirche".
