    Early automatics are very rare here in England I think. They didn't become as much of a thing until the Hoover Matchbox range came out either.
    Good to hear that the owner has the parts remade all over again, that's what they have to do with Band organs. When you can't find a spare part, you remanufacture it or find one that fits. My Hoovermatic 3174 is currently in pieces right now as the wash tub needs a new screw for the agitator, which I ordered on Ebay recently, as the original one was an absolute mess, and a new 45mm seal for the heater too which I didn't DIRECTLY order a proper seal for the 3174 heater but a 45mm one that should at least fit so that it works.
    I'm pretty much restoring the whole machine in terms of functionality as I haven't got the things to cosmetically fix it, I wish to grease the spin dryer too, and right now I'm struggling to get the dial which turns on the wash tub out... mold over the years has clogged it up completely and it won't move. When I got it it moved fine, but mold and crap which had built up in it, of which I only saw WHEN I took it entirely apart, has just jammed it up. It isn't even MOVING for goodness's sake.
    Which manufacturers sold Automatics in England throughout the 50's and 60's besides English Electric, Hoover, and Bendix? I'd definetely like a bendix similar to the one at the beginning of this video. Though what Bendix I ACTUALLY want is an american Gyromatic after seeing Swestka(Swestoyz)'s video of one... OH GOLLY THAT IS THE FRIGIDAIRE UNIMATIC OF ALL THE FRONT LOADERS. It is also my intention to export a lot of American old machines into England from all manufacturers possible, including ALL frigidaire Unimatics, a Pulsamatic, a Rollermatic and a 1-18. Not care I do, as to how rare any of them are I want the properly done vintage glory please.

    I love that you know how to use all those parts. Then I thought as I watched it agitating so hard with the lid up, I guess that is why my modern one has a lock on it/stops action to open the lid. I got a little scared. Very pretty. Thank you (I have a 1940s ad for a Bendix on the wall at my washee; no dryer household).

      Hello Fran, yes Darren literally takes the machines apart and chromes , paints , Repairs and has new parts made if beyond repair,
      a testament to good engineering that they lasted this long anyhow.

      Would not want to pay the water and mainly energy bill to run them these days... Mainly the vertical shaft agitator one, the amount of water to heat there for every wash is insane.

      You can adjust the amount of water you use on these as you control the water tap, also these are used in conjunction with a Rayburn cooker / oven / water boiler which runs the central heating so there is lots of piping hot water available.

    • @WeHadOneOfThose
      @WeHadOneOfThose  4 роки тому +7

      Yes Steve thats correct, the bases of the Bendix has a slot for two 8 inch bolts, this is either side of the baseplate in the middle, these are drilled into the ground or concrete slab, the washer is then fitted onto them and then tightened down, at the same time using all four feet in each corner to level and then final tighten down of bolts. All the machines have been taken apart fully restored with new drum bearings, gaskets, seas, pumps and then painted.

      So old that it hasn’t got a door interlock 😯 ⚠️, a front loader with twin tub technology - the right dial isn’t a timer - a selector; tumble/spin/drain, the left dial is a heat switch - with a thermometer gauge under it and a heating light below that. Unfortunate that you didn’t demonstrate the matching tumble dryer beside it
