Food for thought; the one test that I haven't seen anyone do is actually processing game and I'm willing to bet that if you were to process a deer with the Gordon, you wouldn't see a difference if you were strictly using the gordon knife to process game. I'm willing to bet it would be the exact same as the buck, and that's gonna hurt a lot of people feelings because of the price difference but if you're only using it for game, that's the test that I will be interested in. I think Buck is running on nostalgia at this point. I don’t dislike the company AT ALL, the buck 110 is a favorite of mine. Just seems their prices keep rising but the quality and innovation is a bit stagnant
Good info, I've owned a 119 for 30 years, its my hunting knife, not my only get 1 knife choice. I doubt that Gordon would have failed me if I had it instead of the Buck..
You did a very fair comparison test with these two knifes. You convenience me that I got a very fair deal on a perty decent knife. I thank the Gorden is a well made clone. Both of these knifes, this style is made for stabbing and slicing. You would want those knife, say if a couger attacked. You could stab the chest for the hart, or rib cage for the lungs. You could possibly work on a bear.
The buck costs $100, how is that only double the $25 Gordon? On the basis of what I saw in another fellows video, I went out and bought it, and your video basically confirms his video, well worth the $s spent!
I just bought this knife a couple weeks ago. I may use it as a utility knife. Im not worried about the 7cr17mov steel. Many of my folders have cheaper, softer steels so I can work with it on this knife.

I take a knife fixed blade with at least a 7” blade hunting with me for camp tasks and let’s say I lose my gun or the ammo runs out and I need to make a spear or stab an animal and am having a real bad day. I wouldn’t use this knife for hunting but a belt knife for around the farm and pasture yeah all day long.
I love mora knives. I have probably ten. They are great for the price and be very functional. The scandi grind they put on some of them does thin the edge quite a bit though, and they will chip sooner than a convex knife
Someone bet me I couldn't throw my buck folder into floor and make it stick. It stuck. And left 3/4" of the tip permanently in the floor. Last time I camped: 4 kids ,wife and I drove to campsite . On way there, we "had to stop at Casey's" The sheer tonnage of thin cardboard alone, made me envy any man who can need knife that makes smaller pieces of wood for a fire. The 119 takes longer to lose edge than harbor freight clone. It also takes longer to sharpen the 119 once you do. The 119 makes borderline incredible use of 420 stainless... But it cost around 4x more. I could easily live whole life with 2 Gordon knives. But , I chose Odenwolf W1 440c stainless instead. And track of the wolf Trekker axe. Recommend bastard file for the axe in travel bag. Also, I recommend having children, despite the debris.
I have no need for a Buck 119. However, since the Gordon is now $25, I'd say it's worth paying a little more than double for the Buck, solely for warranty.
@@urbanlumberjack if you're a hunter (I'm not), you can buy a set of 3 Mossy Oak knives for $20 (at least it used to be $20). I'm sure it's basic 3Cr13. They're not bad SS knives though. I have a set for doing stuff when I know I can't keep my carbon steel knives dry and oiled. They're decently thick blades, the nylon sheaths have nice plastic inserts, and they actually have thick, full hidden tangs. They also have jimping for fine work. One knife in the set has a gut hook. I've abused them, and they do okay.
That was more reasonable batoning. At least you were taking smaller chunks off. I prefer not to baton a knife unless I’m using smaller stuff for kindling. For wood processing I use an axe or a blade with at least 1/4 inch thickness. You might have to stab a tree trunk if it suddenly attacks you. You’re in Georgia don’t know what your trees are like. Sometimes ours will fall over on you.

Hi there...I got a Buck 119 clone it's not Gordon's but I suppose it is thesame manufacturer from China from what I can tell. It is a soft steel but strong build, and for normal use in the woods or camping for the price 20 bucks, it's perfectly all right.

The reality of it all is Yes China's people can indeed produce some exceptional, excellent quality useful products! The Harbor Freight Gordon replica is a sturdy dependable knife. I have one and it's nice. I also have two Buck knives. They are nice too. All of them are not as nice as my Randal Made #1 fighter. It's all relative. I would rather beat up my clone and keep the other ones nice. Get a Gordon.
The brass rod test on a deep hollow grind is a bit off because of how it is ground. I have abused my Buck 119 pretty bad and it is more than acceptable with the design.
A decent blade, to be sure. I feel a lot of problems with the knife could be solved by increasing the thickness of the tang. It is a beautiful knife with a great blade by the length is too much for the size of the tang.

It held up ok, honestly better than I expected. From what I’ve observed Chinese manufacturing is increasing in quality, and sadly, a lot of domestic manufacturing is doing the opposite.
The cheap one is made of softer steel that will roll the edge sooner and dull more quickly but is also easy to sharpen again. It will wear out sooner so if that bothers you. Main reason for cheap price is soft steel is easier to machine and cheaper to finish. The sheath is nice and you will never cry if you lose or break it so good value that way.
He just completely debunked that in both his vidwos about this knife, The steel is neither softer or easier to sharpen than the buck according to his series of tests
@@urbanlumberjack the thickness of the hidden tang is important, as are the transition fillets. That said, after seeing pictures of the 119 tang, it doesn't appear to have fillets. I don't think I would describe the Buck as a rat tail. I'd call it a hidden tang. Rat tail tang typically means it has another piece of thin metal welded to it along the length. Any knife that doesn't have a visible tang, is technically not full tang. I don't mind sacrificing a little tang width for a nice rubber over-mould.
I can buy 3-5 old hickory or forge craft high carbon blades for this price Found a green river, a forge craft hi carbon slicer and an unmarked butcher knife with a good high carbon steel for 23 dollars a while back Though its not the worst knife, think money can be better spent thereb
Old hickory knives are great. I own nearly a complete set and use them almost daily. I agree money can be spent better elsewhere. This knife style is minimally functional. Not good for work, not great for camping, and honestly not great for game either. It’s functional art, really.

I don't write this off because I think the 119 is the worlds greatest knife, I do so because it's a knockoff of the 119. If this were not a knockoff I would not say " just get the Buck 119 ". Clones have no place, they just further the problem of people wanting what they can't afford and lowering themselves to get what they must convince themselves is the same thing. I'm not into modern knives and dislike how intellectual property is the absolute most important thing in that market to the point where that knife better not even remotely look like this one or you're a shameless thief, but I still know that counterfiets and clones are not a good thing. @@LXT43 they do care, but sometimes it's just easier to let the knife through knowing many wont care because they're going to sharpen it anyways and that whoever does happen to care can go through warranty and Buck will make it right. They are well known to have the best customer service in the industry. You have to remember that they are hand ground and they can't take the time to do a perect job for what the knife costs. They're not high end custom or semi custom knives, they're affordable mass produced working knives. I have seen many factory seconds from Buck and if it weren't for the arrow sticker pointing for the flaw I'd never know it was there, and in some cases I still couldn't really figure out what the supposed flaw was.
@@LXT43 I've never had a single Buck that was as unevenly ground as you suggest your knife was. Shit happens and a bad example can slip through the cracks, it was not a cosmetic defect and the knife was probably one that could still outlast you. Cold steel is a different story , they have low enough profit margins that they could afford to reject more if the edges on their knives were ground by hand. I'm not making excuses I'm telling you why things are the way they are. Buck knives is putting out functionally very high quality knives that tend to cost a fraction of what they should, and the hand operations may result in things that would make an overly demanding picky person unhappy but the knives have everything that matters.

I bought one recently and took it camping. I did about 8 hours of bushcrafting projects, and it was still sharp. That's good enough for me.

It’s really hard to see, but there is a pin through the pommel and tang. Probably aluminum I’m guessing because it blends in so well

I'm not into modern knives and dislike how intellectual property is the absolute most important thing in that market to the point where that knife better not even remotely look like this one or you're a shameless thief, but I still know that counterfiets and clones are not a good thing.
We cannot let China continue to take and take, we must support domestic production and stand against blatant theft.
@@LXT43 they do care, but sometimes it's just easier to let the knife through knowing many wont care because they're going to sharpen it anyways and that whoever does happen to care can go through warranty and Buck will make it right.
They are well known to have the best customer service in the industry.
You have to remember that they are hand ground and they can't take the time to do a perect job for what the knife costs.
They're not high end custom or semi custom knives, they're affordable mass produced working knives.
I have seen many factory seconds from Buck and if it weren't for the arrow sticker pointing for the flaw I'd never know it was there, and in some cases I still couldn't really figure out what the supposed flaw was.

Shit happens and a bad example can slip through the cracks, it was not a cosmetic defect and the knife was probably one that could still outlast you.
Cold steel is a different story , they have low enough profit margins that they could afford to reject more if the edges on their knives were ground by hand.
I'm not making excuses I'm telling you why things are the way they are.
Buck knives is putting out functionally very high quality knives that tend to cost a fraction of what they should, and the hand operations may result in things that would make an overly demanding picky person unhappy but the knives have everything that matters.
@@TylerSnyder305 Well, I've bought too many Buck knives that "slipped through the cracks" and I'm not buying that excuse anymore. American work ethic and taking pride in making an American product is long gone, at least with Buck. I'm done with them.
No need to even test it. It fails just for being a clone. Buck should sue gordon straight out of business for ripping off their design
I know people love their Buck knives, my favorite is my 102. Skinned my first deer with it. I appreciate your input, and have many of the same resentments toward clones you do.
Chinese manufacturing is getting better and better and US manufacturing is going down the tubes. No other way to say it. I felt very sad when I received a defective Buck and a perfectly fine, of not better, Buck 119 Clone.
