by the way, if you follow the directions on the bottle, 4oz per 3 gallons hot water, you get the most controllable mix. more time or more dye to darken.

About a year ago I started dying synthetic materials. If You bring it to an extremely light boil and then dial back the heat to keep it from boiling and in my experience in about a minute sometimes less the color takes. The more water you add the lighter the color will be. But if you use less water the color will be darker. Rut die is Amazing. The original color of the part your dying will effect the end result

It goes pretty deep. I have yet to scratch anything deep enough to get past the dye.

My question is what do they look like after there scratched up? If you use your saw it’s going to get beat to hell eventually.

I tried dyeing a husqvarna orange part purple and it turned out like yours. I think a lighter purple may work better.

Try some grease or somthing that can stay in place and withstand the heat and it should keep the water/dye off of that area

I'll make it easier. Simmer. Drop it in. Will take about 15 minutes at a simmer. Rinse. Powder rit is half the price. This originally was discovered or so I was told for dying magpul plastic magazines for AR-15's so you could differentiate loads in multi phase shooting competitions. Hence it'll work on almost any plastic. It works better on new shiny plastic. Faded dull plastics will come out faded- just whatever color you chose.

Hi there hope you are doing well today, know you are dying chainsaw parts which is probably a different type of plastic, but I want to take may 2 Xbox one controller apart which are white kind of a shiny white ABS plastic, and dye them black, the only problem I see is the heat of the water may melt that kind of ABS plastic, I did take two smaller pieces of the controller and microwave about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of water put in a glass jar and poured in about 1/2 of a bottle of rit dye all purpose black added acetone about 8 to 12 oz it started to take to the white ABS plastic but never turn it totally black it was more of a not yellow may like when white plastic turn kind of yellow after years have gone by but it was trying to take the black maybe I needed the water to be more hotter. Any help would be greatly appreciated on this matter. I see people dye all kinds of different types of plastic maybe the acetone was the problem, I tried dye with just the all purpose black dye and water first that didn't work it's when I started add the acetone to the mixture that it somewhat started to take like I said I just microwave 2 cups of water put in glass jar 4 oz of all purpose black rit dye black and about 8 to 12 oz of acetone left in water which slowly cooled down for about 3 hrs got it to take about 20% out of a 100% . If I can figure out the right way to dye the Xbox one controller shells it would save me $40 , once again any insight would be a big help thanks Gary

So just follow your video guidelines, that's what I'm get out of your comment think it will work just fine. Does it matter if you use all purpose rit dye or rit dyemore synthetic dye or I guess you could use both at the same time thanks Gary

Don't know. You're overthinking it. Just dye it. It will either work... or it won't. That's the best I can give you.

using acetone/brake cleaner and heating the mix is the dumbest shit i've ever seen seeing as though it evaporates instantly.
