I appreciate this video because I am re-learning the ollie after 30 years of not riding while also teaching my eight-year-old son how to do it. It is a deceptively difficult move but once you learn it is super obvious, but getting all those steps timed out perfectly takes a lot of practice.
The kid seemed to learn more when he saw the video, so he' may be more of a visual learner. You could have put a chalk line on his board to give him a visual reminder of where to place his front foot.
I think what has helped me a lot is watching someone do the motion on flat ground and then practicing myself! I’ve found it really helped with the timing!

The more u ride the more.comfortable it get and u wont be scared to learn or if u fall u know how to fall so u dont break something Go with ur own pace theres no rush :)
Get some 78a durometer wheels like Bones Rough Riders or Ricta Clouds.. slightly bigger maybe a 56mm so they'll roll over everything.. they'll eat up rocky concrete no problems. People use them on grass, gravel, concrete.. everything. I have the worst terrain ever for skating.. so did a lot of the Brazilian pros when they were growing up.. it's all about finding a setup that works.. trying to make do with the best you have. Plus when you have skated on bad terrain and actually do get to good terrain you'll find it so much easier.
Hope they see this... Having them take time to teach and have the kids commit and learn how to do tricks is what could make Braille Skateboarding really make the skate community come together and have fun, which is what skateboarding should be. ^^ This. Even if you do "step 1 and 2" together perfectly, nothing's going to happen if you don't jump off your back foot. You need to jump to give the board somewhere to go in the air.
idk My little brother could do it as a kid cuz I told him to jump. My method was teach the person a manual. Then have them roll towards a curb and "Manual and jump". Then judge how much help they need from there. Believe it or not a lot of people end up learning to ollie this way. They get confident cuz they make it up the curb.
The kid seems like he might be frustrated and also feeling a bit like an idiot. But props to Aaron for being a stellar instructor. Frustration is part of learning... coaching a child to keep going takes patients. Not that I didn't respect him before, but I've a higher respect for Kyro now. Working with kids is awesome but often demanding and so many adults leave childhood and never want to face it again. Growing up, I was often told that I'm an exception because I love working with kids and I didn't understand what made me any different. Until I realized that not everyone can or will do it, I thought it was a normal thing among everyone to enjoy working with children. Keep it up Aaron and Braille!
WHAT ABOUT STEP JUMP? lol I love braille's videos but ive noticed this even from the beginning of the channel. You gotta put pressure on the tail and literally lift off of it and bring your back knee up into the air allowing the board to be LEVELED, like he explains. Overtime one will be popping Ollies so high their back knee is up beside their chest. Cheers!
Aaron, your patience is unsurpassable. Big props to you.

Inspiring, seeing the same mistakes that we make and the tips of Aaron to correct it in those videos is just very cool
I can't help but notice he never mentions to the kid to "jump" with his back foot and bend his knees up...?
^^ This. Even if you do "step 1 and 2" together perfectly, nothing's going to happen if you don't jump off your back foot. You need to jump to give the board somewhere to go in the air.
CizreK i dont think hes at that point yet
that's what i notice about Aaron he never talked about that part
Yeah that's what I was thinking the whole time and I haven't skated since I was crap at it 10 years ago.
idk My little brother could do it as a kid cuz I told him to jump. My method was teach the person a manual. Then have them roll towards a curb and "Manual and jump". Then judge how much help they need from there. Believe it or not a lot of people end up learning to ollie this way. They get confident cuz they make it up the curb.
14:00 The kid adjusting his feet for ollie is the cutest thing ever 🥺🥺
Who actually watched all 20 min of this
wowits jesus me because I'm still learning how to ollie
Me and i've known how to ollie for years lol
I'll watch this again when I get back from vacation. Gotta learn how to ollie better.
Me
Me.
This just shows Aaron can teach anyone
18:30 thank me later
thank you
Trilight Phethean omg thanks
Thank you now, but what to do with the final result if we don't enjoy the journey? :)
Thanks for telling me when he yells “WHAAAT”
It’s 18:28
WHAT ABOUT STEP JUMP? lol
I love braille's videos but ive noticed this even from the beginning of the channel. You gotta put pressure on the tail and literally lift off of it and bring your back knee up into the air allowing the board to be LEVELED, like he explains.
Overtime one will be popping Ollies so high their back knee is up beside their chest. Cheers!
I want this guy in my life for everything I need to learn! And the list is very long. Much love from France
