- Back in February, the United Nations special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights strongly condemned the way Spain is treating its Gypsy community. According to the UN, of the 750,000 Gypsies who live in the country, almost half of them live below the poverty line. Many members of the Gypsy community say they suffer discrimination, especially on the job market. Our correspondents report.

As an American all of you look the same to me. No skin in the game. I have talked to a couple Europeans. You guys have all these weird disputes, random wars etc but I found it interesting they all shared the same opinion on the Roma. It wasn’t positive

As a Romanian person (but not a gypsy) I am aware that there are so many problems within the gipsy community in Romania, it's a unending cycle of blaming on each other, Romanias say gypsies are thives, beggars, unwilling to find a job and work etc.

It's bad and it confirms my ideas that very different cultures cannot live in harmony and peace into the same society.
Yeah Their problem is their traditions, girls marrying at the age of 14 most of them dont take school seriously. They prefer living with the money state than earned. They have to change.

It’s Europeans fault this what happens when you discriminate people for hundreds of years and then blame them for the circumstances you put them in keeping them in a never ending cycle.
The vast majoritiy haven't even made an attempt to he t integrated into society always trying to force other to get used to them otherwise they treat you as a racist and like playing the victim. I live amongst them in Spain and can state they are the most racist race I've ever come across, obviously not all of them but a big part of them, it's not easy to live in the same neighbourhood with them As they don't respect rules...come and see if you don't believe it...

Because when they speak they do not use the soft /th/sound in pronouncing c and z. They might be from Andalusia. I read somewhere that most Spaniards that migrated to Latin America during Spanish Empire era are from Southern Spain.

If there is any Romani people, remember you are welcome in India, your motherland, and Europe needs to put a check on racist thinking, while I am not blaming everyone but clearly there is discrimination here happening for centuries, it is high time they look at the human rights of the community and make sure they are brought in mainstream society.

I will never generaliz a group by the small bad apples in their group but while on Spain in a bar roughly 5 gypsy people (I only know they were because when asked if they were Spanish I would hear no they are gypsy) they at first seemed nice I offered to buy them drinks but they soon started trying to get me to give them my phone and wallet till I call a few of my friends over they stopped and one tried to hug me and still me wallet. But that was just a few not all of there people are bad just a few I hope they can be helped and finally give their fair chance but like other groups the bad apples will be the only thing people see
