I actually gave my name to my cuz Rich when we first started spinning but he didn't like it or want it. When we were learning while he was beat matching the record in the headphones the record would always finish on him before he mixed in the next one. He would scream out "waitaminute waitaminute" and then put the record back to the beginning so we started calling him DJ Waitaminute. He hated it so I took it, sounds catchy to me. Anyway he lost his pinky toe in a construction accident and now calls himself DJ 9Toe. Go figure!!!
Dj name are cheesy. If you notice most pro djs use real names . Whether real or not, not the point I think. Come on now,, Names like dj whatever noun. Other than your actual name or company are fucking cheesy.
I don't even now where to begin with how amazing you are.. This will probably get lost in the comments and whatnot but you truly are amazing. I and many others can tell you have a sole and true passion for the art of djing. And your not fake like many other djs out there. you tell it as it is and truly want to help people, not gain popularity. I have been watching your vids for years and you truly got me started as a dj. When I found you I was ten with the app djay 2 by algoriddum and I was so amazed at what you could do that I saved up for months and bought a Hercules Dj4set and virtual dj. I though I was the shit making mixtapes in my bedroom and stuff! everytime I got the chance I would watch a tlm tutorial and in four short years you got me from Hercules dj4set in my bedroom to school dances all the time and parties and a ddj-sr (maybe sx soon!!) and Serato. I habe developed and insane obsession with djing and I eventually took up producing in fl studio. I am so glad I found you because I know there is no way I would be where I am today (and im only 14!) I have a long road ahead and im sure I will prosper with help. please never stop making vids and tutorials for they are truly inspiring. I just wanted to say - Thank you for being a REAL Dj. and by real I don't mean vinyl and turntables, I mean honest and compassionate and dedicated and not media corrupted. you are you and you share it with others, please don't stop your style, it truly is incredible and I would be proud to say you are one of the last REAL true djs Mix on bro :) djTLMtv
Being half Dutch and proud, but living in UK I went with DJ Dutch, been nicknamed Dutchie for years. Going with nicknames/unique attributes/styles is a safer and sensible zone
I always figured TLM was your abbreviated name, but your origin story is much more interesting. Also, I remember when that movie was in theaters, so thanks for making me feel old! :P
Since my first name is Tenzin and my second is Nyma (Nyma is the name they gave me because I had trouble coming out at birth and it means "Sun" in Tibetan). So, how about Tenzyma? Or DJ Tenzyma?
My name is Willie Dawson, Willie D for short. I always identified with the old school theme song from "Willie Dynamite." My name was heavy in the hook, and in the association my DJ name is Willie Dynamite.
I started out as DJ Mike but just like you didn't just want my name up there I wanted unique. I used my past as a guide. When I was a child I would stutter when I got excited so I chose Stud-Duh as my name and there are a lot of people that now only know me by my dj name. It means something to me and everyone loves it. great video!
I agree with you TLM, it's hard to find a DJ name. I went threw 5 maybe 6 DJ name before I came up with one. I finally came up with one that fits me. DJ MB ONE. I call myself that because I'm my mother and father first born. So everyone out there make sure to pick a name that fits you. Don't get crazy with it, keep it simple and fresh. Keep up the good work DJ TLM and keep "SPININ"
childof83 Ok, explain why. I take it you're a big Ghostface fan? I know there's a DJ Apollo from back in the days and I think I've seen a DJ Apollo Kid before.
I choose this name, Kowalsky, because thats what my friends call me! XD My real nickname is Kovalchuk but every time they call me they say Kowalsky. So this name have some meaning to me. Do you guys think this name is nice?
If all, so all. Hey, name I useing is Luke van Beat, its like 4 years or so. What shoud i relresentate by that i mean what shoud someone expect from me and my mixs? If you can give me a tips to be beter on something, because I don't want to change my dj name.
My DJ name is Dj Arthro because i´ve got a handicap called Arthrogryphosis multiplex congenita. That makes it something personal that will stay with me my entire life.
DJArthroOFFICIAL I like that. Also, when people ask about your name, it gives you a chance to shed some light on the handicap because a lot of people might not be familiar with it. Does it effect your ability to DJ? I guess it all depends on which joints were affected by it right?
djTLMtv It affects almost my entire body but i have found my ways, ( you can see that on my channel). but i cant use vinyl or cdjs because they are too big and i cant change songs. The technology makes it possible for me. I combine producing and djing and i use both ableton and traktor. that takes away almost all limitations from my handicap :)
I started DJ'ing about a year ago and decided to use the beginning of my name. Now I know a lot of DJ's may have this name but I didn't do it to steal from them, I did it because of my name and the meaning behind it. DJ Art is my DJ name ... Arthur is my Gov't name and because Ive been around a few DJ's and the science of mixing is an actual Art.
TLm thanks to you you are an awesome teacher! Lol little test. My dj name is D-Plex, how you guys would pronounce it? Is it stupid in your opinion?) thanks!
TLM! as my avatar says im dj woo pig. Its an arkansas thing, our football's team mascot is the razorback. Our cheer is woooo pig soooie (another arkansas thang lol) I feel it gives me a personal connection with my audience before i even start my set because everyone in the state loves the razorbacks. Its something that wont ever be dated here in the state. PLUS its different! Thoughts? Now when im not at the club and im doing private events such as corporate parties, weddings ect. I go by Dj Johnny Rockin' i feel like its still fun and hip but doesnt come off as informal.
lol dj scratch fast n dj perfect mix! actually, my email is quite ostentatious, but that is just my email and not my dj name, and the email does represent me, but not in the first way you look at it, so my dj name is also my gamer tag, which is also another option... for me I chose my name before there were gamer tags, but could help you out as another option. Another question is: with or without dj?
Dan R I think that is all about personal preference (with or without DJ). I've been put on flyers as DJ TLM and TLM and it doesn't really matter to me that much anymore. If you're starting it could be a good thing to have DJ in front of the name because it makes it very clear that you are a DJ.
I get to play my first set last 2 week at my school prom,I don't have any dj equipments with me bcs you know..still earning the money to buy it(quite pricey in my country). so what I did was play music and play the next one with good transition. question is,am I qualified to call myself a dj? how do I know whether I am one or not? I've always wanted to be one.
DJ LawdAMercy I used to listen to old school reggae/dancehall and in some songs they say Lawdamercy like Driver A by Buju Banton or Muevelo by El General. My Mother is from Costa Rica and they have some carribean culture there. So when I had some friends who were jamaican i used to say it sometimes randomly to be funny or make fun of them a lil. They approved of the name so I'm sticking with it especially since I made sure that nobody has it because its hard to thinks of something catchy and relatable with all these DJs coming up
djTLMtv Well not really.. mostly Rap/ Hip-Hop and RnB. I'd like to do dancehall too but as far as the new stuff I'm not too knowledgeable. But idk because most of my audience not really into reggae/dancehall any way so i think when they see the name they won't think of dancehall like you and i and some other people would. I know that it would be good to build my dancehall library so i can be diverse. But I think its still a good name because i figure i'd make people say "lawdamercy" if i do my job right no matter the genre.
I can’t really help you there bro. I’m not good at thinking of names AND this is a personal thing. You need to come up with your DJ name. Or use tour nickname (if your friends gave you one).
I don't aim to be a DJ, well, at least not as a job, maybe as one for small events. But I want to be a turntablist and controllerist. So should I put "DJ" in my name? It's pretty irrelavent since my main aspect would be cutting records and beat juggling, not playing music for crowds of people.
Thanks for the tips. I'm one of the guys who is still searching for a name. My dutch family name is haas. What on earth can I make from that :-)). Anyway I keep on searching.
My name was given to me by my mother when i was 11, i was already a apprentice dj (would go with my father or other senior djs to observe and learn at events), anyways I've always been bad at directions and i get lost really easily even today. navigation is my best friend no joke. one day when walking form the corner store my mom asked how to get home. keep in mind my house at the time was a street over. ii said i didn't know. she then bombarded me with all these other places we've been to thousands of times and kept asking how to get there. again said i don't know. Furious, my mother yelled "YOU ARE SUCH A LOST ONE!" i got on the mic the next opportunity i got and said it................it stuck.
Little story about the perfect Artist/DJ name and how it came to be: I started a DJ/Producer Duo with my close friend, to which we were working on a name that would work for us. Now, we could have gone with our names like tons of other producers (example. Lucas & Steve, Pep & Rash, "Insert generic coolish sounding name here with weird spelling etc."), but that didnt sound good, names work only if they're pronounceable or are memorable when spoken. Ours didnt. We considered nicknames, but neither of us had any so that was ruled out. Stumped. So one night, after a few drinks, listening to mixes of our new found favorite sounds (at the time was the beginning of Future House and Melodic Deep House), I noticed during a few tracks that some of them gave you a feeling, there was just this vibe about them, and we coined these tracks as having the Feels and the Vibes... That was it... That was our name. The music we wanted to make, the music we wanted to play, what we wanted to bring to our fans. Feels & Vibes. And its been about 2 years now. We've blown up locally as well established DJs, with a few original tracks on small labels, a handful of remixes, a monthly mix series on mixcloud with 8 episodes to date, and a great fan base, slowly being recognized by big names in our genres. Feels & Vibes took off. The name was memorable, it distinguishes our sound and our dj sets. Our fans know what to expect, and when explained what it means, the smiles on peoples faces when they know they're in for a good time no matter what we bring them. The perfect name! Hope this got you all thinking, I notice a lot of people having troubles letting their creativity show. Know that the name can come from anywhere, anything, as long as its memorable and is true to you and what you bring to the table. As long as youre happy with it, no matter what anyone says (actually had someone call it "gay", even after explaining what kind of music we made), then whatever your name is it'll be great!
I have had the nickname stiltz for a while because I am a stilt walker so the name DJ Stiltz was just kinda gave to me at a party I was doing for friends.
How do you put your logo on your videos. Ex. The logo on the bottom right of each video. Can you make a video on how to do that, it will be greatly appreciated.
House Head Speaks was the name of my blog, but I kept on my Facebook page. My DJ name is Househeadspeakz. The reason because the name is already known for my blog and still is used for my social network. I did change it on my Twitter, Instagram, Soundcloud, and Mixcloud. They have Antoine as Househeadspeakz. I used my first name and my DJ name on my show. I try not to confuse ppl so if ask and tell them it is Househeadspeakz. I replace the s for the z. Since my brand is known through certain circles, I wasn't hard for the name change. I say if you already have a brand name, make it your DJ if possible.
My father was a DJ, and I looked up to him in that aspect. His was Mr. DJ (ironic in the 80s maybe) but I ran with it at the time in my earlier years of being a DJ back in 02-03'. I played on the words and spelled it differently, "Mstr. Deejay". But being influenced by French house recently I changed it to Monsieur Dj. Altering the pronunciation but keeping the meaning of Mr. DJ.
DJ Average ? Lol nah but I am starting to step into the DJ realm, just waiting on my gear to get in so I can get this ball rollin, been watching your videos all day, everyday for weeks now. You’re a natural teacher and I like how you give such broad answers to try to help others start aren’t necessarily doing hip hop. But anyways as far as DJ names, I grew up loving Star Wars so maybe DJ Death Star, or just DJ Rey?
A DJ name should feel good to you. In the beginning I had names like DJ Razor Blade and DJ One-MX but they never felt like me. One day I saw a record of Terrence Trent D’Arby which had a remix on it called the “the cool in the Shade mix”. The word “Shade” really stuck with me. Shade felt like me so I became DJ Shade. And later on when other DJ’s started using that name also I changed it to Mr.Shade. Best thing I ever did.
My DJ name is Esperantone. It's because Esperanto was a language founded in the 19th century to become the "world language". It's a mix of the most spoken languages, and is designed to be easily accessible and understandable for anyone. I am a Drum & Bass DJ, but I want to incorporate elements from different musical genres (varying from Rock to Hiphop) in my work - both in DJing and producing- to make D&B accessible to anyone. The main critique I get is that Esperantone is not catchy, and that it's hard to picture the name when you say it. Opinions?
I honestly think your name written out in full is way nicer than the abbreviation. The Last Mohican sounds very earthy and tribal. Sounds with Africanish drums or Aztek or whatever but that would be more of a reference to Jungle/Half-Time but I'd be cool seeing it cross with hip-hop
When I started djin back in 98. I didn't have a name yet and would meet dudes that would only go by their dj name. I can't really ever take it all that serious so I knew I needed a good one. Dj stinkyfoot was born. And It's still dope today... ha
mine is 2Step, i choosed that because the first black music song that i remember was 1, 2, Step by ciara and since im a black music dj it fits. according to what u said in the video it would be an "old songname" but i also love to dance different styles so u could also relate to the 2 step dance, which a really classic and representing style if u ask me! Greets from Germany peace
SuicideMessiah360 I think people won't think of the Ciara song because (like you said) that's called 1,2 step. I would think of the classic 2 step dance and UK Garage which was also called 2step Garage which was a popular genre (here) for a while.
This is DJReaper.. I was thinking of changing my DJ name but have no idea what it would be.. most of the parties I've done were bbq's or backyard gigs so most people know as DJ Reaper.. after watching this video I think I will stick with the name most people know me as.. thanks for the vid..
#DJTLMtv I started out with DJ Luckie because Luckie is my last name, However upon searching Google, I see many different DJ Luckie's. Could be the same person, but still there's another DJ Luckie of the world. So by pulling out a few letters in my name, I was able to come up with DJ LKE which is still personal to me and it still has that Luckie look and sound to it. I've changed all my business cards to the new logo, but i'm still passing out the old to get rid of 'em. Thanks for your vidz man...very encouraging.
HEY THERE AM JOHN MICHAEL CRAWFORD AKA DJ JC HOW DO I GET MY DJ NAME ON A BESSNISE CARD AND HOW DO START MY DJ GIGS AM A BEGAINGER TO A INTERMEANTIT DJ
I named myself cranium when I found out 11 yrs ago its around that part of the head/brain how you get goose bumps or a rush when pulling of a mix off or hearing a banging toon also I use to do really hard mixes by putting the beat in a different place or playing the beat just off so you get echoes and people who heard me on radio use to say I done mind bending mixes or clever cutting or scratching.playing dnb . Also was easy to make a design which was a skull with part off the brain showing or that type of thing . Annoying thing is another 10 people have copied it .but I can't moan I started my dj name as wicked after ice cubes old dj if I can remember. I brought my first set of decks after watching juice .memories
I found the name UpscaleRiots because I worked at city hall and people had recognized me as a dj and had told me its so crazy how I had a upscale job yet can cause a riot :D
Slyko, I tried to change my name in diffrent ways but it sounded bad so I picked up some letters and mixed it together until I got a name that I loved. :)
Oh mehn these videos are so speaking to me. Like my first few gigs i so didn't know what name to give the club as my Dj name so, i played for about 4 months using my middle name("Licia Dj" from Alicia)lol but i want something really meaningful cos as one of the very few black girls out here in China doing djing plus the very first club female dj from my country Liberia, i see myself as a representation so i need a name more meaningful. Any suggestion might be helpful family. Thanks
I'm on the fence with a couple of names, maybe you can help me out? My name is Aaron and my middle name is Christopher. As a child, my mom would call me "AC" for short sometimes. So once i thought of DJ AyChris. I was nicknamed "Buki" in my junior college years, but DJ Buki just doesn't sound like a good name to me. I have used the tag "elohel (LOL)" on my social media names and i've never seen anyone use DJ eLOheL before, so i thought that was clever. But at the moment, I DJ at my job at a local skating rink with a gimmick of wearing a Boba Fett helmet as i DJ and currently call myself "DJ 2Phett" for the rink (I use that to make fun of the word phat combined with the gimmick of the boba fett helmet) but i doubt i can wear that when i dj out of my skate rink job, because it does get hot and foggy underneath and i couldn't dj all night with it on. What name should i really use to get my name out there?
Ville Konttinen I honestly have no idea what I should think of when I hear "Virtual Heart" :) I would notice it on a flyer because it's different, but (to me) it sounds more like a Japanese boy band name than a DJ name. But the most important thing is how you feel about it and what it means to you. How did you come up with the name?
I actually gave my name to my cuz Rich when we first started spinning but he didn't like it or want it. When we were learning while he was beat matching the record in the headphones the record would always finish on him before he mixed in the next one. He would scream out "waitaminute waitaminute" and then put the record back to the beginning so we started calling him DJ Waitaminute. He hated it so I took it, sounds catchy to me. Anyway he lost his pinky toe in a construction accident and now calls himself DJ 9Toe. Go figure!!!
That's crazy! :)
LooL
dj mY Dj name is KSHMR because it's music is different from other dj and it's reflect an Indian touch in his music
Waitaminute

Mix on bro :) djTLMtv
The Last Mohican is really cool DJ name, especially if you're kind of old school DJ, you're using turntables and beatmatching by ear.
Good tips gracias Hermano
Unfortunately, some starting djs don't do their homework and take an already used nickname. Pretty confusing some times... but you can't help it. :/
0:02 track song Jon B - Don't Talk ?
Soner Ilgin No, it was a new beat I'm working on. Don't talk is a lot faster too. Love that song though!
Before I get a DJ name I need to get my skills up !
MY DJ NAMES WILL BE DJ JARED OF THE KING OF DRAGONS!
I've been struggling for a while with this myself. Played around with a couple of choices and then stuck with 8T-ONE. That's the year I was born.
Being half Dutch and proud, but living in UK I went with DJ Dutch, been nicknamed Dutchie for years. Going with nicknames/unique attributes/styles is a safer and sensible zone
lucianna fonteyne I like that
lucianna fonty why r u so cute?

4x4Productionz Thanks
I always figured TLM was your abbreviated name, but your origin story is much more interesting. Also, I remember when that movie was in theaters, so thanks for making me feel old! :P
Good points!!
that is right, name something that relate or what you can do to your audience .... thanks
tonnes of djs have turntable/scratch based names but use controllers and can't scratch .
Im ddj echo frenzy releasing about 10 mixes or more this winter.
Since my first name is Tenzin and my second is Nyma (Nyma is the name they gave me because I had trouble coming out at birth and it means "Sun" in Tibetan). So, how about Tenzyma? Or DJ Tenzyma?
Tenzin Phurtag I like how it sounds and I haven't heard it before
Good advice!
My name is Willie Dawson, Willie D for short. I always identified with the old school theme song from "Willie Dynamite." My name was heavy in the hook, and in the association my DJ name is Willie Dynamite.
2 years ago when I had a shitty name with numbers in it, a person commented on one of my tracks on SoundCloud with "BIG TUNE", so now I am.
Another Amazing VID
You should have a challenge for us dj's. Sometime.
I started out as DJ Mike but just like you didn't just want my name up there I wanted unique. I used my past as a guide. When I was a child I would stutter when I got excited so I chose Stud-Duh as my name and there are a lot of people that now only know me by my dj name. Michael Ferrarini When you said you used to stutter I was expecting you to say your name was DJ M-M-M-Mike
DJ TLM great video as always. If possible could you do a video on scratch needles/slip mats and fader oil vs innofader. Thanks
Psyckedelic! Im a producer that makes my own music and i want to start dj’ing it
Why my name is Psyckedelic! because the original album by me it was kind acid dubstep and the ‘!’ I have adhd and ! Is loud and my stuf can get loud
I agree with you TLM, it's hard to find a DJ name. I went threw 5 maybe 6 DJ name before I came up with one. I finally came up with one that fits me. DJ MB ONE. I know it's a bit silly, but how about "Dj Feelings"? Or some variation of that.
thinking of running with DJ ella ella but nervous people will pronounce it as the name Ella and not the spanish word pronounced " a-yah "
Real name ''Ronnie'', DJ/Music Production name ''Run E''
Thats smart
should a dj change his name if another dj has the same name but spelled differently?
lol dj scratch fast n dj perfect mix!

i use jaster generally as a nickname, once i was at a jazz festivald and a friend told me "hey jasfest" and i liked it
Thank`s from " DJ Stobbe " .........

Yep that's why i changed it to DJ Chilla C
hi dj tlm I need your help looking for dj names
I can’t really help you there bro. I’m not good at thinking of names AND this is a personal thing. You need to come up with your DJ name. Or use tour nickname (if your friends gave you one).
Is dj chip T okay as a name? As my name is Theodore like a chipmunk, or is DJ T bomb better?
Talked about your question in my latest podcast
I'm getting back into the mix after a decade hiatus, thinking of DJ Rude Rube (Ruben is my name)
I don't aim to be a DJ, well, at least not as a job, maybe as one for small events. But I want to be a turntablist and controllerist. So should I put "DJ" in my name? It's pretty irrelavent since my main aspect would be cutting records and beat juggling, not playing music for crowds of people.
Thank you very much DJ TLM.
Thanks for the tips. I'm one of the guys who is still searching for a name. My dutch family name is haas. What on earth can I make from that :-)). Anyway I keep on searching.
I decided to go for DJ Rectus what do you think about it?
gLock997 Haven't heard it before
The first name I used a lot of people didn't feel, DJ J Spinz. Now I'm using my nickname from school, DJ Big Dean.
Jamie Dean I like J Spinz! But Big Dean works as well. It is more personal
What about DJ Brightlights
DJ Lost One Love that story
I need a name.. Thinking of DJ Kittana...? sweet like a kitten but slays just like that bish on Mortal Kombat ayyyyee
I like it :-)
Kitten Littlez would actually be a dope dj name
for some reason i didnt even think about that
Little story about the perfect Artist/DJ name and how it came to be:
I started a DJ/Producer Duo with my close friend, to which we were working on a name that would work for us.
Taking the "DJ" before your name is a good thing to stand out also...
How do you put your logo on your videos. Ex. The logo on the bottom right of each video. Can you make a video on how to do that, it will be greatly appreciated.
How does DJ Joggernaut sound?
Ayyyy.
I just came up with mine because I make Happy Hardcore.
Wanted something that'd fit with the happy themes.
DJDeerPrincess Princess always sounds happy :)
DJ.
people always say i acted strange and out of this world and so they started calling me Fifth Element so thats what i stuck with
my name is rifqi, any suggestion?
how can i create my dj intro
HI DJ TLM , what do you think about DJ Petar NDP , Petar is my first name , and NDP is short name of the place when i live ?
peace !
What about DJ C n' C (Classic and Current)?
your video is help me out a lot thanks
My name is now and forever Funktavious.
Opinions?
dope
I honestly think your name written out in full is way nicer than the abbreviation. The Last Mohican sounds very earthy and tribal. Sounds with Africanish drums or Aztek or whatever but that would be more of a reference to Jungle/Half-Time but I'd be cool seeing it cross with hip-hop
My DJ name is Enfeu. En feu stands for on fire (just like my mixes) in French. ;)
🔥🔥🔥
My friends gave me the name Eckhart. For some reason they gave me that nickname, but I kinda like it. What do you think?
When I started djin back in 98. I didn't have a name yet and would meet dudes that would only go by their dj name. I can't really ever take it all that serious so I knew I needed a good one. Dj stinkyfoot was born. And It's still dope today... ha
mine is 2Step,
i choosed that because the first black music song that i remember was 1, 2, Step by ciara and since im a black music dj it fits. according to what u said in the video it would be an "old songname" but i also love to dance different styles so u could also relate to the 2 step dance, which a really classic and representing style if u ask me!
I found the name UpscaleRiots because I worked at city hall and people had recognized me as a dj and had told me its so crazy how I had a upscale job yet can cause a riot :D
my name is Hercule and i decide to call my dj's name kilomix what you think?
I can't decide between dj squash or dj draith
Slyko, I tried to change my name in diffrent ways but it sounded bad so I picked up some letters and mixed it together until I got a name that I loved. :)
Try to play with your surname and move letters here and there, works well
Oh mehn these videos are so speaking to me. Thanks
My DJ name is the The Letter J, because of my first name, I think it's fairly clever and would make people curious, thoughts?
i've been trying to find a dj name, but everyone calls me JD and i just feel like dj jd is kind of weird because its just dj backwards. what do i do
Mr NeedL. Rap, Reggae & Funk with vinyl!
Ik heb al twee nummer gereleased onde de naam IsiX, denk je dat dat een goede naam is?
Is Dj Frager good
I'm on the fence with a couple of names, maybe you can help me out?
Do you see "Virtual Heart" as a legit dj name?
Marnix Ikink what if i dont?
Ville Konttinen I honestly have no idea what I should think of when I hear "Virtual Heart" :)
I would notice it on a flyer because it's different, but (to me) it sounds more like a Japanese boy band name than a DJ name.
But the most important thing is how you feel about it and what it means to you. How did you come up with the name?
Electronic stuff, including games, are close to me. So is love and music, so i emerged them to that name..x)
Ville Konttinen And what kind of music do you play?
Ville Konttinen use your real name Ville Konttinen or VilleK that one that dope
Do you have any videos on speakers for dj's? Or if anyone knows that could let me know it would be appreciated.
