Still had bits of my Crim costume lying around from Halloween (where I was Crim for two of four Halloween shows, in my local cast). So it was a golden opportunity.
Back in 1984 (or so) I would dial using my telephone modem up to Bulletin Board’s. I was racking up crazy expensive telephone long distance bills with calls to my favorite BBS’s around the US. Somehow, can’t remember how exactly, I was able to have my TI read long text pages out loud. I could be building radio control airplanes while listening to computer articles being read. I rarely looked up at the screen to see what the actual word was that the computer tried to speak. I was living large!
I wrote my own simple "Text to Speech" program using the TEII cartridge, just so I can play around with some of the options. I still recall hearing it pronounce the entire alphabet! 😃
I had once seen a comic strip of "Dennis the Menace" where he came home, said he had learned a new word at school, and pronounced the entire alphabet as One Word. I waited a long-time, before TI had the tech for me to hear it.
@@victorsteerup4582 - Dude, that's incredible. How long did you wait? I always kind of wondered how to do it, but any attempt on my own simply could not be done.
The Simon and Garfunkel video you did should go down in history. This video was a lot of fun. Lyrics for Parsec and other TI classics. No one else is going to make awesome videos like this. This channel is beyond legendary and unique.
That ending was glorious. I must have been 11 or 12 when I began playing with TEII's speech capabilities and I always aspired to something like this, but I could never find the time or ambition.
Amazing! I thought I'd seen all there was regarding speech on the TI, but not seen lots of these. The TI truly is Pandora's box of possibilities. I'd love to hear it singing Daisy Daisy though 😉
If I recall correctly, there is a version of Daisy on the TI Sings disk. I can't recall how well it does with the song though. It would be among the trickier ones, since it sustains quite a lot of notes, and allophone speech can't always sustain diphthongs convincingly. But I expect it can be done well enough.
Wow! You covered so much software that I never knew existed for the TI (my first computer). I definitely never knew there was a Pascal compiler for it. I spent hours messing around with the speech synthesizer in XB and liked that you could expand the built in vocabulary by plugging Speak & Spell cartridges into it. The ET expansion for the S&S was a personal favorite at the time.
Wow! Your character drama skills are great..Laughing out load.We watch one of your Realms of Antiquity play through and your impersonations of some the important inhabitants of Talanua was so realistic;we were certain there was another person in the room with you. Thanks for the great content.
Hah! Thanks. Very kind of you to say. I've been thinking I need to revisit Talanua on this channel. It's been a while now. And the game's changed quite a bit.
@@PixelPedant I will sometime before long. My lab area is a mess. The 99 was my first computer though. First order of business would be a power supply for it. I remember that chunky rf box it came with taht I would need to replace as well. I can't imagine going back to developing on one though, no syntax highlighting, code complete dark mode etc. It takes some serious dedication to do all you have done on here.
You have a unique sense of humour my friend. no wait, "unique" isn't quite the right word, since I smile at your jests and jibes, it would seem we share that sense of humour. (along with 1500 subscribers) You have a clearly superior sense of humour. (That would be "humor" to American viewers)
I started collecting 99 4A s in 2016. In my 40's. I had won a "circuit bent" device on ebay and it turned out to just be a ruined 99 4A. It came with a few carts too... so naturally I wanted to see what Music Maker could do. ... a few months later I was buried under the stuff. Then a few life upheavals caused much of the collection to be lost or destroyed. I recently started gathering everything together that I still have. I started using the SE with TEII a couple of days ago. Got most of the valuable carts, X Basic, MiniMem, etc, and I have CF7+ and FlashRom99. Gotta figure out how those image files work again for the FlashRom. Next step is to get the PEB out of storage and cross fingers to see if the disk drive still works, I doubt it. I will buy a replacement PEB to get Floppy capability back so I can use a lot of disks I still have. I recently started using cassettes again too. Cassette drive works good. Again, I have no idea why this is fun. It just is. It would be amazing if I could get MidiMaster working. Wanna help?
I was not expecting to see you lip sync to Charles Grey's voice while wearing an ascot and wielding a cigarette holder but I'm very glad you did🤣

I was 4 crashing into asteroids in parsec at that time.

No time like the present. As I say, the tools have never been better. And it's just as much fun as it ever was. For me anyways. :)

Go for it! Never been a better time to get into TI-99. The resources are so much better than once they were.
