Wow. I had one of these back in 1987. It survived me flying it a few times. When I moved to a new city I gave it to a fellow RC pilot … he flew it a few more years. Beautiful airfield and flying here by this pilot. 🙌
Brilliant flight by the pilot and a really nice landing. Ive never had a Big Stik in my hangar but this video has wet my appetite. Thanks for sharing and a very happy and healthy 2024.
I ordered my first stick shortly after Phil Kraft put them on the market ! Through all the planes of all types I kept an Ugly Stick in the pack and on my 79th birthday flight with dozens to pick from I took the stick out! Great flying Dave!
I love this airframe. And the skill level on display in this video is just something else! I had a Big Stik 40 with a 46AX, sadly I crashed it. I was completely heartbroken over that little plane, So much so that my wife bought me a 60- size one. Got a lovely Saito 91 that needs an airframe. This awesome video is just what I needed! Thanks, guys!
I still have my Big Stik 40 with an OS LA .46(which really brings this bird to life). I Built back in 2006 and flew it till she needed to many repairs to fly again and I put it up and got into alot of other aircraft, even fpv multirotors and forgot it for years. But recently I "rebuilt" it with new radio and have been bit by the "bug" again lol. Boy, these things were meant for the air! I just wish I could fly mine the way you do! Your a great rc pilot and thanks again for the inspiration sir!
The flying field is at 26 Porter Road. We usually fly on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons, and often on other days too. If you have RC planes, you are welcome to join us. If not, you are still welcome to visit and watch.
Nice flying, nice video. I just bought one with the same engine, rtf for $75 canadian. He also threw in 2 gallons of fuel and an rcgf 15cc nib! Hes leaving the country...said a lot of great things about the stik. I might put on a saito 65 gk, just bcause I havent used it yet.
I use to have a Big Stick 40 ARF from Great Planes back in 1994 it sure was a very fun plane it lasted me for 3 years until sadly I had to sale it in order to make room for my first low wing plane which was a Great Planes Ultra Sport 40 kit. Epic job on wringing out your Big Stick there Dave do you still fly any of your profile planes??
@@3DMOFO2020 Hi Cueball! Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I still fly my profile planes, In fact, I'm going to the Bolivar MO ProBro next weekend. (6/18-19)
Greetings from New Zealand...... 3d meets scale ? ...... I think this guy flew crop dusters and drank lots of coffee in a previous life ..... Thank you guys. 😎
Fantastic video and a great display of flying skills I’m down to one stick, a smaller one with electric motor. I crashed my 40 size a month ago ☹️I was hot doging it and lost track of it orientation.
The Big Stik 40 ARF weighs 5 lbs, 6.5 oz. without fuel. Normally I put around 6 ounces of fuel in the tank for each flight, which would add another 5.5 ounces of weight at the start of the flight. So total takeoff weight would be 5 lbs, 12 oz.
Thanks Dave. About 150 g lighter than mine. I have the Saito FG 11 in mine, which is quite heavy with the CDI unit. Need to fly a little faster than you do. Great video. Thanks
@@jannovak2234 Yes, I've tried several different brands of 11x6 props on 46 size engines, including the 46AX. But I prefer the way the APC 12x4 performs. There isn't much, if any, difference in the top speed performance, but the 12x4 has more pull at slower speeds, such as takeoff, vertical climbs, and accelerating out of high drag aerobatic maneuvers.
@@davemcddd Thank you very much, my Sig cougar has a Force 46 engine with an 11/6 propeller, the cougar is heavy as a pig, I tried ten on seven, ten on eight but with 11/6 the best,, I will also try your APC 12/4 ... or 12/5 .... Are you also using Hiteck 422 servos?
@@jannovak2234 12x5 is too much prop for a 46, but the 12x4 works great. I'm not really a fan of using Hitec servos in any of my planes. @davemcddd i just used the search haha, i just wanted an idea what this plane was like before i flew it. Its just a wee bit heavy to do any crazy flying me thinks.
I have this plane as well. I had no idea how capable this plane was, being in the right hands!
Thank you! These "Stick" planes are really very good flying machines.

Good flying. These stik planes can usually fly most basic aerodynamic maneuvers even some 3d with modification. An oldie but a goodie I like to say.
Yep! The Stick type planes are hard to beat for general sport flying.
Nice skills

Eldon MO where my father started his medical career. He flew control line planes when I was young.
Back in the 70's there used to be a lot of control line activity in Eldon, MO. Is that when your father was flying them?

Amazing flight. and then they say it's the plane! fingers!!! This man must come from flying patterns. No?
No. I'm definitely not a pattern pilot. I'm just a guy who flies for fun at an RC field in a small town in mid-Missouri.
Awesome!

Hi. Did you convert from the tricycle gear to a tail dragged? Thanks
Yes sir
Technically, it was built from the start as a taildragger, which works better on our grass runway.
Did he do a deadstick loop to bleed off speed to land?? 😎
Yes sir
Hi dear sir Tell me pleas what size props runnig? Sir! Thank you lot..Jan...
The engine is an OS 46 AX. The prop is an APC 12x4. A great combination for sport type planes.

Why add the crappy music?!? We love the sound of a nitro engine, not elevator music
I wanted it to be a peaceful video, maybe to fall asleep to, but I understand wanting to hear the engine too
OK want to hear the plane not Yanni and his skin flute with Burt Baccarat on the ivory
😆😆 sorry
Annoying music.
