it's gold. The biggest open cut mine in Australia. There used to be a town sitting above all that, now it's a valley.

I wish I worked there. But if you ever happen to be in Perth you should take a couple of days out of your itinerary to visit Kalgoorlie. It's right next to the mine site and you can walk or drive up to where I took that footage. I'm pretty sure there's no tour of the mine itself as it's working 24/7.
Kalgoorlie is about 500km East of Perth, you can get there by road, train or plane. There's daily trains and flights. It's a well preserved old mining town with Empire style architecture from its glory days. There's a great museum, plenty else to see and some unique cultural aspects still preserved there. It's the only town in the middle of a tier one mining district, so they have all services there.
Best time to go is our winter/spring... April through to November. If you get to Perth hit me up. If you're in the mining trade there's plenty of people here you can connect with, they're all complaining that theres not enough mining engineers and the cost of labour is going up.

@@victoryoneable I worked there in 99 driving haul trucks when roache Bros had the contracts it was a good mine to work at home after work no staying at a camp.

@@waterpuppyaquatics7864 It's a bit deeper now :D Pretty soon they'll be going underground while continuing to work the pit.
There's not many places left in WA where you can work on a mine and go home to a place with all services after work.
