Great video. I hope I can follow in slow-motion to replace the battery in mine. It's not complaining yet about a low battery yet but I'd like to try replacing it before I lose the user patches I have loaded over the years. Of course I will need to plug it in and turn it on after it is open while I swap out the battery.

The synth should under no circumstance be on while you do this procedure. But yeah it isn't too hard. Make sure you use the vacuum cleaner (without the brush) to clean out dust while you are in there. Good luck 🌹

You dont need to remove the keyboard to do this repair. Leave the 8 screws (2 rows of 4) intact on the base. Just the 3 each side that hold the side panels on and the screws on the back. Panels off and the control surface moves backwards and up.
I did this when I first got my Indigo 2 about 6 years ago to replace the battery.
It's unwell at the moment, and some of the boards are away at a renowned synth specialist being looked at. Hopefully the whole unit won't need to be sent away, because I love my Virus. Fingers crossed, Kent can do the job without that needing to happen.

I wish you luck m8. The Virus is king of synths... The Arturia fanboys have no clue.

Before I started I made sure I had a backup of all the user data to restore after the battery replacement. The Indigo2 (as imagine all the Virus series do) can send the user data via SysEx using the MIDI Dump Tx commands described in the manual. You just need a program on your computer that can receive, save and send the collection back to the Virus afterwards.
Besides the 6 screws on the bottom holding the side panels (3 for each side) I also had to remove the two similar size screws from the bottom. My Indigo2 has a pairs of washers glued together and glued to the inside of the bottom panel where these two screws are. One pair came loose from the panel and I had to re-glue it. Also the two screws on the back that hold the side panels and two under the back panel lip.
I also had to disconnect the internal power cable and the ribbon cables in order to move the keyboard section far enough to access the battery. I labeled the ribbon cables and the jacks ("A" "B" and "C") to mark how to put them back.

Happy to have found this video, I need to change the battery of mine as well. Feared it somewhat but you made it look like a breeze.

Thank you. Yes it is quite straight forward really. Make sure to clean under there while you are at it, make sure you have grounded yourself to avoid static electricity (touching the sink tap is good) and be two people. This is a heavy device so having a helping hand (which also has grounded him/herself) is a good idea.

    What triggers the replacement?
My virus keeps wanting to overwrite my patches in the banks is that a sign of a dead battery?

    • @Joldrath

Can't hurt to change it. You need help from another.
My virus said 'illigal ram' in the display. But if your virus doesn't say that, just change it anyway.

Battery changing would always be my first thought when a synth starts misbehaving.

When you changed the battery did you have to save the presets?

    • @Joldrath

No. Didn't have to do that.

You should back up your presets, whenever opening any synth and replacing the battery. Dump them via midi and you have them in case the battery replacement clears the memory.

I have my user presets saved in a special Access edition of Emagic's SoundDiver for Mac and an old Mac that can still run it :^)

@@Joldrath If your Indigo 2 said "illegal ram" I imagine the data stored there was no longer valid. Perhaps you have only used the patches stored in ROM.

Hi, unfortunately, I broke off the metal pin that holds the battery. Is there a way to fix this?

    • @Joldrath
      @Joldrath  3 роки тому

Oh sorry to hear that. Buy some shipping materials and a cardboard box that fits the synth. Deliver it to your local music store that sell synths and the like. They will have connections (contacts) to get your synth fixed. Be prepared to pay a bit, but not much as this is easy to fix.

Perhaps you can replace the battery socket if you can access (pun intended) the other side of the circuit board with a soldering iron. I've had to replace soldered-in batteries with sockets on several synth modules. Not easy but ....
