- I had a loose shaft on a resonance potentiometer so I replaced it. This video shows that work but also contains a discussion of various tools that I use for synth repair. See additional info here: erichizdepski.wordpress.com/2...
Thanks for taking the time to show us this process! Just got a used Virus Rack unit and the pots are a bit sketchy--probably just going to clean the pots but I may get some spare ones to keep on hand just in case.
great video, will this pot work cant find yours? PTV111-3415A-B103
DeoxIT works well on the contacts and pots. Replaced the LCD with an OLED on mine. Haven't replaced any caps or pots yet. Battery upgrade is always a good idea and fac reset.
I turned mine on after 20 years and the patches have scrambled names, any ideas?
Change battery and reload the firmware. You can load from a DAW. Make sure the firmware matches the hardware. There are two versions- I think called 't' and 's'. A tiny letter will show in the display on startup.
I have a hardware bug that after switching on it is always set in EFFECT mode, so the EFFECT light is on. If I click CONTROL or EDIT it stays for a while but switches back to EFFECT. If I click SINGLE in order to change the patch it switches back to EFFECT. I can play the synths, I can switch the preset via MIDI, MIDI is working and the battery was exchanged. The problem stays. Any ideas?
Maybe a dirty switch contact that keeps it on? Misaligned plastic button cover? I don't think it is a setting but possible reflashing OS could clear it up.
@@ErichIzdepski Thanks for the quick answer. I was treating the synth very well over the years. The only problem could be the dust. That is why I already tried contact spray which didn't help. I also updated to the latest version. Can I replace the plastic button or lift it up to clean it? Any idea to replace the button? What do I need to buy then if still available? It feels that after a while of heating up the problem gets worse and if I can't click the EDIT button and it stays in EDIT other buttons won't work too.
it looks like the more LEDs in total are on, the more likely it falls back to EFFECT mode (11 LEDs are a key number here). More than 11 make the fall back more certain and quicker. So it looks like that there is a stabalizing problem of power. Clicking on LFO 2 and Transpose might also emphase this effect but this could be that with LFO I get more LEDs on. Could that be a hint for a capacitor? And if the question is which one?
