These advices are golden especially for anyone whose first time in New York😎I really appreciate this metro guide for any future trip to the city 😎Thank you for sharing this essential and golden trabsportation guide A K🙂👍!!!
Great video, AK! I think the most important bit of advice comes at the end at 22:30 regarding subway line colors. Tourist who are used to other metro systems may think they can use colors to help decide which train to get on, and that simply isn't the case in the NYC subway system. As you correctly note, colors are only an organizing construct for midtown Manhattan, and even there different trains with the same color stop at different stations. Always use the number or letter of the train when following directions, not just the color! Also, I'd just like to note that OMNY readers are (almost) fully deployed across the MTA transit system on buses and at all turnstiles in the subway stations. And they don't just work with phones, they work with any Tap-to-Pay method, including physical credit cards that have an RFID chip.
Helpful video Actionkid. Sometimes the train may not be in service. J, Z line only operate on the weekend. One time one of my family relatives who was visiting from china took the A train to the wrong direction. She had to ended up at Beach 116 st Rockaway Beach.
What a wonderful idea helping to use public Transfer and other opportunities while visiting New York. Thank you, Action Kid, this is very helpful!!! Best whishes from Germany,Sabine 😀🎅
This was an excellent presentation of this subway guide for tourists. 😃👍 You've mentioned a lot of helpful information and tips, and thank you for sharing this informative video, AK! 🤗 FYI - Your mouse was a bit too close to the mic. 😅
It’s complicated because it’s a geographical map and not a schematic map like the London Underground map. It’s so easy to get around on the Tube. Ditto for the Paris Metro and just about any other subway I’ve ever been on. I once saw a NYC subway map drawn like a London Underground map and it was SO much easier to figure out.
I am a British saying to you this is mean. Why are you criticising USA map. Why even mention it here. Be realistic. There is some comments to think before commenting. Why being a piece of work like this. That’s not how to do it. You have zero clue of USA subway so don’t just criticise. Don’t be this delusional.
@Trendycosmetics-os6gh: For your information, I’ve lived in NYC my entire life and I’ve been riding the subway since the 1960s. But I’ve also done a fair amount of traveling and I give credit where credit is due. The London Underground map is far easier to follow than the NYC map.
@Trendycosmetics-os6gh: I wasn’t aware that I needed a constitutional right to compare anything. What’s wrong with comparing? We compare things every day of our lives. We compare grocery products, we compare living conditions, we compare cars, restaurants, even doctors and health care. If someone or someplace does something better, what’s wrong with acknowledging that? I stand with my original statement… the NYC subway map needs a lot of tweaking. The concept of the London Underground map is far superior.
Reading the comments and I’m genuinely surprised at how people found it to be difficult to use the subway. I’m English and it took me one day to get this thing nailed on my first visit. Since then I’ve used it without a problem on every subsequent visit. I’ll always advise getting a cab from and to the airport into the city though. It’s more expensive, but it’s much easier and more convenient AND you get the view of the city heading in which is INCOMPARABLE!! 🥰 Now when I went to London (🤮😂) I could NOT figure that hell ride out for the life of me. Paris wasn’t so bad though.
The R for tourists? Really? Its slow, infrequent, unreliable, often down, frequently rerouted. Unless you're leaving Manhattan the 1 and 6 are a tourist's best friends. Find the 1 running beneath Broadway and the 6 beneath Lexington (lower down Park and then Broadway). The 7 if you want to get to Queens and the 2/3/4/5 (really best is 2/3) when getting to and from downtown Brooklyn. If for some reason you need to visit Astoria then take the 7 to Queens Plaza and then connect to the N. Everything else is for locals with local knowledge only.
Its not complicated at all mate. Its simple. Its a shame that there are not enough subway stations for Bronx and Queens. This is why London has the best tube network in the world. We were the first city in the world to have it and others followed. Our tube network covers approx 90% of London. La Guardia is only for short haul/local flights not for international. Hence why all internationals come at either JFK or Newark. NYC is like 5 years behind London in terms of logistics and transport
Yeah right. I am British saying to you that's not the British mind. Never criticise other countries rail network maps. We do have maps like the one here in our London too with red colours, green colours too but criticising the USA map is unacceptable. Comment like British for we don't criticise other countries. Look in the mirror. How would you feel if an American comments here criticising our London network map too. Be realistic.
How's it complicated 🤔. I moved to NYC when I was in my 20's my grandmother showed me how to travel in 3 days, and that was it. It's all trial & error, Lol!! I lived in the Bronx and had to go all the way to 23rd St and Broadway. My 1st job.
Don't ever use the NYC subway. Lot's a crazy and violent people there. Also, you're legally not allowed to defend yourself either! Do NOT use the subway, ever.
riding the NYC subway is so much fun.
Not when you do it every f'ing day of your life.

Much appreciated!
Very good advices AK.
Yes, it is a complicated subway network but it is really convenient to go wherever you want to go.
Thanks 😃👍
Kiitos!
This is a very good informational video for people visiting New York
and the subway system thank you AK.☕👋🇺🇲
Wonderful methodical analysis. Portland OR with 85 stations over 533 sq miles with 5 light rail lines and 700 buses is complicated enough for me.
Thank you!

My pleasure

The Tokyo and Shanghai subway maps make this looks like child’s play
I took the train from Newark-went perfectly-right to my hotel.
I honestly could have used something like this when I first moved here in 2010. It took a bit of getting used to. I didn’t live near the tube before.
Hopefully it'll be able to help more people!

Great video. I always just stick to the A C E trains. 😂
Very good info for tourist who are flying into New Jersey airport instead of LGA/JFK
for a long time some people called LGA "junk airport".
The best tour guide

@@cak813You know what you have no right to compare these maps for every country is different. Being realistic matters too.

For the algorithm! 🥰
People who live on Staten Island be like: 😂
🙂
If you take a cab and ask him to drive around for 8 hours you can sleep on the back seat and it'll be less expensive than any manhattan hotel.
