I've often found the concept of this movie extremely disturbing. The fact it's about a man who learns that his entire life is nothing but a forgery. The fact that A.) His beloved hometown is really a giant TV set, the whole area is fake, the buildings, landscaping, even the sky and ocean are counterfeit, and B.) All townspeople that populate the entire area are actors. Every man, woman, and child, are all just a bunch mercenary performers who are all in on the whole facade for 15 minutes of fame and the fact that the show's creator is *PAYING* them to lie to Truman. If I were Truman I'd be very shocked and appalled, to learn that my life has been nothing but a *GREAT BIG LIE!* And that everyone who Truman has known and trusted since birth were apart of it, even his own parents were in on the act.

Am I the only one who thinks this movie is very unsettling and creepy? It’s possibly one of the most scariest movie i’ve ever seen, and that’s coming from someone who loves horror movies. I mean, mentally this is scarring. Truman’s whole life literally had no meaning. I’m surprised he didn’t lose his mind after processing that everyone he knew, everything he had, everything in his life was all a lie, a show, a stunt for people to watch from all over the world. This was so sad and scary to watch. Especially when the radio glitched and kept saying his exact movements, at that point, I would’ve just freezed in fright. I cannot fathom the fact that this was a movie made in 1998. Wow, what a rollercoaster.
Glad they took Jim Carrey for that. With a different actor, the movie would have just been disturbing. It might still have been great though, in a different gerne, maybe psycho/horror.
Boy did Jim Carrey got excellent reviews for this performance. Almost had an Oscar nomination for best actor but fell a couple of votes short. Still an unforgettable performance.
The Truman Show is a masterpiece. It was so prescient that I doubt anyone who wasn't an adult in 1998 will realise how mind-blowing the concept was at the time.

The best part of me watching this is I have not watched the trailer and I have no idea that Truman’s life is just a show. I’m kinda confused at first but I realized it at the middle. One of the great movies I’ve watched so far. The part where Truman overcame the setup storm and reached to the horizon to which in fact just a painting, is very hurtful knowing that he was just played around his whole life.
The only criticism I have on this movie is that it very clearly does not wish to hide the fact that Truman is in a tv show and he doesn't know it. When I first watched it, I didn't pay attention too much to the opening credits scene and didn't pay too much mind to the title. So, when all of this stuff started happening I was kinda confused and trying to piece it together with Truman. When the "big reveal" came, it was so interesting for me. I wish that it hid the actual plot of the movie because it makes you more invested in Truman's journey. You're as confused as he is, it's like you're there with him trying to figure out the mystery.
This is the trailer I first saw and was blown away by the concept of being the only person *not* the actor in a huge life-long reality show. The tear in the blue sky was a nice touch and I looked for it in the movie but it was only in the trailer.

same, ever since I've seen that movie like 20 years ago it hasn't been the same I like to tell myself I'm just paranoid, or I'm just having delusions of relevance, but what if not? What if?
There was a lot of behind the scenes work which most viewers will never see, and yes, there are over 5000 cameras and actors which form a small city, and further start each day with every single line and footstep choreographed. However, if I was completely candid, I'd say that producing every line, structuring the series as it airs, and operating a show of this magnitude at 24 hours every single day of the year is the hardest job, which is of course done by yours truly.
If I recall correctly from a friend who majored in philosophy (and math), there’s a philosophical discussion that says in short, “We have no special access to our own internal states”. Meaning (if I remember correctly), if someone were to follow you everyday from the moment you were born, they would know you just as much as you know yourself. Every desire, every emotion, etc… This show, to an extent, reminds me of that discussion. The director of the show saw everything Truman saw and felt, who was his romantic type, favorite foods, curiosities, etc… I’m slightly doubtful of this discussion but it’s interesting to think about 🤔
I'm so happy I had the chance to watch this without knowing anything other than people really liked it. Best movie to somewhat accidentally stumble across one day and watch it totally blind to the plot. The only other movie I can think of that even came close to this one was a Dicaprio movie I believe was called shutter island. That was a great movie going in blind as well.
I only wish they hadn't give the whole plot away in the trailers although not sure how that would work. Would have been ace to actually figure out what was going on with Truman.
i wish i could erase my memory of seeing this movie, just so i could watch it again, its such a masterpiece. if someone reads this comment, and u havnt seen this trailer, just skip this and watch the movie , go into it knowing nothing, it is art
This is an amazing film that is best watched completely blind. I wish I could find someone to show this movie to who hadn’t already seen it. It’s such an original concept. Almost the opposite of what we do today- people put their lives online but only show what they want to. This is a man who isn’t willingly doing that so it’s his life completely unedited without his knowledge. Just such a genius concept, especially for 1998.
*DO NOT WATCH TRAILERS FOR THIS MOVIE* It's an experience best gone into blind. Part of the reason I love this film so much is because I went into it not knowing anything about it, not even the title. If there's one film you should avoid looking up before watching it, it has to be this one.

@@Expose_bankers_and_auctioneers North Korea got fake actors, buildings and locations for tourists just like this movie. Hope this helps :)
Let me tell you something that can blow your mind and think..what if our life is like truman that everyone is watching you in your whole life daaamnn this movie give me chills.🤧
I feel like I'm living in Truman show
U are my friend the true man show
We're all living in it
Same here, I just said that, it's been like this my entire life
Ever since I can remember, thinking about the cameras on the alien ships from war of the worlds used to keep me up at night
same, ever since I've seen that movie like 20 years ago it hasn't been the same
I like to tell myself I'm just paranoid, or I'm just having delusions of relevance, but what if not? What if?
It is honestly crazy how many cameras and logistics stuff was put into filming Truman...

"Say the line bart!"
In case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight :))
It's a great movie! I am not sure why Hollywood can no longer create films like this.
Thank you, dear Jim Carrey, for trying to show people a bit of the truth🙏💝
If I recall correctly from a friend who majored in philosophy (and math), there’s a philosophical discussion that says in short, “We have no special access to our own internal states”. Meaning (if I remember correctly), if someone were to follow you everyday from the moment you were born, they would know you just as much as you know yourself. Every desire, every emotion, etc…
This show, to an extent, reminds me of that discussion. The director of the show saw everything Truman saw and felt, who was his romantic type, favorite foods, curiosities, etc… I’m slightly doubtful of this discussion but it’s interesting to think about 🤔
For me this is a less darker version of 1984 Truman doesn't get brainwashed to stay
NEURALINK
Christoff's strenght is control. His weakness, the opposite, making him value "safety" over freedom.
Love how this trailer uses the theme of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, which starred Lauren Holly, who also starred with Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber.
She and Jim Carrey dated for awhile during/after Dumb and Dumber.
One of the greatest films ever made. The trailer doesn't do it justice at all, there's are much darker side to this film.
The most lighthearted psychological horror movie ever filmed.
I know what happens in this movie but I don’t know what happens in shutter island. Should I watch shutter island instead of it?
@@Adam-gh3bi I'd watch both. Both are good suspense movie tbh
One of my favorite movies of all time it really shocked me seeing one of my thoughts brought to life in a film
Just watched the movie and considering to go on a vacation to Fiji
This movie was ahead of it's time
I only wish they hadn't give the whole plot away in the trailers although not sure how that would work.
Jim Carrey deserved the Oscar for this!!! 🥲
The rip in the sky seen in this trailer is ONLY in the trailer, not in the movie. Interesting!
Huhhhh
*DO NOT WATCH TRAILERS FOR THIS MOVIE*
It's an experience best gone into blind. Part of the reason I love this film so much is because I went into it not knowing anything about it, not even the title. If there's one film you should avoid looking up before watching it, it has to be this one.
Incase i dont see you, good evening good after noon snd good night. One of the best lines ever
Jim Carrey is a FANTASTIC actor!!!
i just watched this movie for the first time today! The Truman Show is such a MASTERPIECE, the best movie i've ever watched. it's just perfect and beyond my expectation.
definitely my #1 movie by now
Same
Did you know what it was about before you watched it?
Me watching the trailer: Oh it's a comedy movie...yeay
Me watching the movie: *psychologically disturbed*
this movie can be extremely disturbing, especially if you have problems with schizophrenia, synchronicity or both. I personally had problems with synchronicity due to research chemicals. I would notice "meaningful coincidences" literally every waking moment of my life until I was forced to ignore over them over many years in order to make room for my own sanity, and this movie was always in the back of my mind as if it was affirming my problems.
ignore Black mirror episodes in all cost, specially the white bear episode. sanity will hi you again
@@zietua2393 ive seen all of black mirror lol
This movie was literally trying to wake us up to our reality, and yet most of us still haven't receieved the message.
What message?! Spill the tea!
When you run the equations that represent the universe mysteriously the computer correction code shows up. EXACTLY in sequence.
Family vloggers are now the new Truman show😢
I just watched this movie in my English class
Melinda Lee for what novel or assignment?
lucky but why
Why?
my anxious side rates this 100/10
What's most disturbing is that the current year is exactly like Truman Show.
One of the most creative movies ever. Amazing movie 💙
Now we're in 2020 and confused why something is weird about this.
Honestly was expecting Barbie movie to be something like this but this is a masterpiece.
My favorite movie ever!!! & Jim Carrey killed this role 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Jim Carrey is a legend
Fun fact: Robin Williams was supposed to play Truman
