As someone who was bullied and treated like shit when i was younger to my current self i gotta say this show does a perfect job explaining and visualizing depression and the thought process of someone struggling with it
Someone else already commented that there’s a lot of time between scenes, but also from what I’ve heard the manga makes it more clear that Miyamura piercing himself was a form of self-harm
In the anime, a long time supposedly passes by in between the scenes (as in scenes that are not in continuous of each other), hence why it all seemed to go so fast 😂 the manga is more well-paced for sure
"Suki" is often translated as "I like/love you", but it just literally means like/love. So, one wouldn't be able to know what the person likes for sure. It leaves ambiguity and sometimes leads to a guessing game.haha

In addition Japanese tends to leave out the subject a lot if it is "obvious" what it should be. Hence "Sukida!" == "I love you!". You wouldn't expect to hear in English: "Love!" or "I love!"
Also, in that context it could also have been interpreted as a repetition of liking her hands
You’re such a sweet human being Alana, i love how u picked up on the possibility that he could’ve pierced himself out of self harm. I didn’t consider that when watching for the first time.
Also it seems like to me that most of your empathy and emotional reactions towards the male protagonist and what he’s going through comes from your own experiences in life which makes watching this anime through your eyes unique and interesting in a beautiful way.

Miyamura's quote about wishing he could go back in time 10 years to tell his past self that things would be better really hit home with me, and I resonate a lot with Miyamura as a character to an extent. This series is just so wholesome and such a feel-good show (':

miya piercing himself is something i resonate with so much because it was how i used to sh and he seemingly had the same reason for it. a lot of people see sh as a very 1d thing but there are so many forms including piercing yourself like how he did and i’m really happy that this show showed that side.
I think how hori said she loves Miya's hands and then Miya saying he loves her and then she said yeh ...is cute but shows that Miya thinks that Hori didnt reciprocate his feelings at that moment, that is why when Toru told him that Hori loves him, he didnt believe it....I think....I kinda interpreted it that way
the most beautiful moment in this episode is when your cat cames when you'r feeling emotional...love it
“Your prettier then most girls” I love that Miyammura’s friend admitted to finding him attractive without realizing.😂
I didn’t realize the piercing thing until this rewatch def made me emotional too. Then the small moments with the two of them are so cute.

i relate so much with Miya, everything (besides looking that good, and being cute) tht's just me. The way everyone avoided him and say it on his face is the same thing that happend to me. I use to not get emotional with this stuff but the moment they out their tables togeder...i almost cryed
I'm super curious about whether Remi was intentionally antagonizing Hori to make her acknowledge her feelings for Miyamura.
I'm under the impression she was currently dating Sengoku, and despite being considered not all that book-smart, she shows several cases of being able to easily read people, so she was probably more aware than anyone else how they felt about each other.
Literally the only thing I can think of is that she was trying to force Hori into a corner to make her confront her feelings head-on.
That's very Remi. She's shockingly perceptive when it comes to how people feel and she's not afraid to push some buttons (though not necessarily anger buttons like in this case) to make'em notice too.

@@RikkiLove0317 Sengoku seems bad when he confronts her but tbf in his eyes she's like the only possible candidate and given his experiences with her it kinda makes sense. When Remi turns out to have lost them he doesn't defend her at all so it isn't like he's biased they just didn't have the full story. Other than that he doesn't rly do anything wrong and he turns out to be a pretty nice guy he just gets a bad first impression for the sake of creating a little drama in the narrative when in reality he just didn't know the full story.

I relate to Miyamura a lot and the scene at 3:37 was just like happened to me in second year, and i proudly say those people are still my friends even after 9 years we graduated (2013).
I was gloomy just like our boy Miyamura but not in a depressive way, because my thoughts was like "whatever, i don't need it", but when it happened i felt like "hey, isn't that bad".
Found your channel today absolutely love your reactions, they are so genuine and adorable. You have a nice calming set up too and great editing, keep up the great work!
We've all had those feelings of feeling left out or different from everyone else, sometimes we are weird. But we are all different and all weird in our own little ways. Accepting them and finding a bunch of people who accept you for you is the best, it's all about taking that leap of faith and finding your people.
I do think Miya piercings were a form of self harm, maybe not in the way people want to end things, but more of a way to feel something or to get emotions out. I've had that problem in the past where you need an outlet for emotions you can't manifest any other way, sometimes you hurt yourself in order to help you process things.
Honestly I loved Miyamura and Ishikawa’s fight, it reminds me a lot of my own friends, I mean we would fight each other over less (once I got the shit beat out of me over an orange) but at the end of the day you make up and it’s all good. Idk it was just kinda how it worked
3:42 the best thing thing about everyone gathering around Miyamura's desk is that they all just immediately do it. Like he is the obvious choice for them to gather around.
It broke me when your voice started to break and it sounded like you were beginning to cry when talking about Miyamura possibly piercing himself as a way of self harm. I never thought of that before you mentioned it, but now it's all I can think about.

In this episode they make it look like Miyamura was ABSOLUTELY LONELY for all of his life until meeting Hori but that's not the case you'll see in like 1 or 2 episodes

The problem with japanese language, is that its contruction is totally different from european ones. You see how Yoda is making his sentences...? That's exactly how japanese works, with the verb at the end, and any complement coming before what they complete but being facultative, as they often don't say what's could be inferred from the context.
So when they used only a verb, there's always an ambiguity/impossibility to tell what's the subject and what are the objects, which anime and manga plays a lot with, cause it's fuel for drama/comedy, though I'm not sure that in real human interactions, they let sentences like that flew off.
All that to say that, when translating a manga or an anime, it's always hard to keep the ambiguity of certain declarations, as it's not acceptable in most eastern languages to let a sentence be just a verb, without even a subject.
Hori's "suki da" was defintely to understand as an "I love you", IMO, and that's what the translator understood too. But then it seems awkward how she changes it in the "I like that" that follows, as in japanese, it's much more fluent, as she just had to add a complement to tell what she wanted Miyamura believe she was talking about.

I know im way late on this but the anime did Remi kinda dirty. They don't really flesh out her character at all, shes actually pretty cool in the manga she just trolls too much.
They fixed the subtitle mistake in the dub.

It is kinda sad that they didn't see potential in this show to stretch it beyond 12 episodes... hence why the pacing in the anime seems so off compared to the manga. I still love the job CloverWorks did with the animation, though. At least on that front, they almost always deliver.
