The 2nd piano player was Paul Schaefer. The musical leader for the Letterman show. He would often bring in musicians from all over to sit in with the band. Eddie Van Halen sat in with Paul and the Late Show band several times.
You know I’ve watched us now two or three times and that’s another thing Van Halen was really known for their harmonies not just their great musical abilities with their instruments but their harmonies great catching that Because I am a Van Halen super fan and I never saw this before so thank you and I’ve been listening to them since 1978
Before Letterman keyboardist Paul Schaefer was band leader on SNL, he also had a cameo in the mock-rockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. Fun Facts For Free.
A bit of the softer side of Van Halen. Both Eddie (Guitarist) and Alex (drummer) were classically trained on the piano. Their father (Jan) was a musician. They all played music on the boat when they came to America, that was actually how they paid for the trip.
Can you imagine if Eddie joined Wyld Stallyns when he had the chance? Bill & Ted might not have been killed by their Evil Robot doubles and brought harmony to the universe so we can have deep, meaningful conversations with our pets, particularly on holidays like Talk To A Goldfish Day.
So many kinda over look the Balance album for me it was VH's best 90's album Balance and 5150 and VH 1 for me are actually my three favorite VH albums song for song. I know that's a huge statement but that's me.
1995 Peavey EVH Wolfgang, Signature Red Quilt. Nice, but I always preferred his Fender Strat 5150 or the Frankenstrat, it's iconic, if Frank's not in the Smithsonian it should be.
Both Eddie and his brother Alex learned to play the piano at a very young age. Their father Jan was a musician, and whenever the family left the Netherlands for America, Jan and the boys had to perform on the boat they were on as part of paying their way to America. As they got older, Ed actually bought a drum kit and Alex had a guitar. But while Ed was out delivering newspapers on his paper route, Alex started playing the drums and quickly passed Ed in skill. So Ed, pissed off, said fine, I'll switch to guitar. Thank god for Alex learning the drums. Finally, on their album Diver Down, the song "Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)," Ed and Alex's dad Jan plays the clarinet on that track. It was actually David Lee Roth's idea to have papa Van Halen play on a track with the band.
Eddie was multi talented could switch from keys to guitar and I think I heard somewhere that he started on drums and Sammy and Michael went on to chickenfoot
One of the most under rated VH songs. Balance wasa hugely underappreciated album. U are right tho, live snall venue oerfirmances are where the real musicianship shows best. The harmonues, the intsrumental performance, everything is as genuine as it can get. Outstanding again, but VH dies nothing that isnt outstanding, at leadt befire 1996. After Sam keft, a little magic left as well, even DLRs return couldnt quite recapture it
Eddie Van Halen. The great debate was it he or was it Randy Rhodes ( Ozzy Osbourne's) lead guitar and best friend who is the GOAT of the 6 strings. Either way you vote those are the top two.
Do you know who that is on the guitar that’s Eddie Van Halen the greatest guitar player of are time I mean you got to know him I mean everybody says that he will be talked about for the next hundred years the innovations he did with the guitar he change the way people played the guitar he’s on real my favorite band since the day they came out in 1978 I bought her first album I’ll never forget it it was an eight track tape
These are bands that love to perform live because they are awesome live and I really don’t believe Edward Van Halen or the band Van Halen whatever use backing tracks like kiss Mötley Crüe Bon Jovi and all these other bands it should’ve retired many years ago. Van Halen was one of the greatest bands no I take that back they are the greatest band in my lifetime I witness them from the beginning of their career to the end Van Halen and I will always listen to their music and that’s how they will stay alive and I will pass that on to the next generation

R.I.P. Edward van Halen...one of the Greatest ever !

The best Band in this world. Van Halen is.
These later Van Halen tracks are so underrated.
I love the live vocals. Imperfect, but damn good and you can tell it's not #$!ng lip-synching.
Sammy looked pure Rock star in that video👍

Whaoo David Letterman show made some History of American Talk Shows and I think they are born over there . Pretty original request guyS
For me, Balance was the best Van Hagar album... and then they split right after that.

See the 3rd movie. It really did not suck and they finished the story. A happy ending is all the spoilers you get .

Love you guys, you’re gorgeous!! Which one??? That’s for you to decide 😂😂😂

You need to check out “5150” live performance from Live Without A Net in 1986

You thought you knew Eddie on guitar.. Then he shreds piano too
R.I.P. Eddie
I’ve seen VH close to 40x…including all singers… I can’t believe EVH is gone
"This guitar player"? Haven't you reacted to other Van Halen songs to know who Eddie Van Halen is?
Finnigan and Wood - Highway
Crowbar - The Lasting Dose

Well either Eddie or Randy Rhodes. That argument will be going on long after I stop.
What sadly, Eddie is not on this earth......😭
Eddie van halen!!!
Eddie played Piano before guitar

Eddie is actually a virtuoso piano player
