We played this song at my dad’s funeral. He loved this song so much. My mom and my siblings - we saved him after years of addiction. We needed him and that was enough to bring him back to the light. Thank you, Anne.
That song was brought to you by GOD! What happened in the studio that day was the presence of HIM. He gave you, me and millions of others one of the greatest hymns/testimonies ever recorded. Don’t you see, HE needs us as much as we need HIM. When I’m scared, confused, or ashamed of what I’ve become, I listen to this song, and it reminds me, that HE’s there for me, always! I just have to cry a tear, and HE comes to comfort me. He still needs me as I need HIM. I’m the one that forgets I’ll always be loved by HIM. GOD BLESS YOU for this song.
Thank you Randy Goodrum for writing this beautiful song! We lost dad in January and he loved Anne Murray and this song! I find it very moving when I listen to it!
It's one of the most beautiful songs ever written. It touches me right down to my soul and I am man enough to admit I cry every time I hear you sing it. God bless you, Anne Murray.
The honesty and emotion of the song touched the entire world just like the demo touched Anne. We love you because you sing music the way we feel it. So you get to break the rules and we come along because all your gut decisions are right for us.
Anne Murray was the first concert that I ever went to. I was 5 years old. My mom, and grandma, said that I was mesmerized, never said a word, and never stopped looking up at her the whole evening! 😊
She is the best singer in the world! She is also a very very nice person. She has written to me via e-mail, and I have visited with her backstage several times. What you see is what you get. Once, when we were visiting in her hometown, I called her mother, and asked if I might come by for a visit. She said, sure, come on over. She was92 at the time, and I found her to be a delightful lady. I guess that's where Anne gets her kind ways!
You Needed Me: Anne Murray the Canadian Songbird Many times I thought this could be a song about a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is my favorite Anne Murray song.
As a child I sung this song along with Ann so many times my family always stopped every time this came on tv to watch me sing a long. Ann’s voice felt like home to me, her voice felt more like a mother to me than my real mother
Anne this song "You Needed Me" has a unique loving inspiration to my family in our darkest moments. I have three children. Stacey now aged 14 and 12 year old twin sons Kristian and Nathan. The boys being the rough and tumble kind took a lot to settle down for the night. So Stacey would sing You needed me to them. Boys loved this song very much. When Stacey was 11 she was diagnosed with leukaemia. The boys aged nine thought they were going to lose their big sis. During the treatment for her cancer the boys would alternate being with her. It came close once and we almost lost her. Not a chance she is a fighter. I didn't know the boys were singing You needed me to her. It kept her strong she told us later. Not only that I found out the kids were excellent vocalists. I visited Stace with my beautiful wife everyday. One evening outside her room there was a group of staff crying. My original thought was we had lost her and staff were upset. Actually Kris and Nathe were singing to her. Wow I never heard these guys sing like this before. It was a beautiful melodic sound. Something I cherish to this day. Stacey made a full recovery and the boys joined the local choir to improve their singing. Last year my mother in law died. A beautiful caring woman just like her daughter I married. At her funeral she requested You needed me be sung. Kris and Nathe started of fine but the going was tough. Stace joined in to support them. Having lost a person they dearly loved made it hard. My wife and I joined in. We both had not sung in years. Both studied classical music. I sang Tenor she was Soprano. Along with the angelic voices of the twins and stacey my mother in law had a wonderful send off. Sadly the boys prefer science over music. Still sing, mostly ballads and country, not classical. Kris and Nathe were closer to their grand dad than grand mum. He saw service in Vietnam as a medic. He loved a song by Barry Sadler. Nurses of Vietnam. The boys sang it at his memorial service. Gramps would be proud of their performance. I was. Anne my apologies for this tail being so long. When a song like You needed me can have an impact on a family like mine. I feel proud to share you have been a positive influence on my kids Thank You
Anne came to our Douglas County Fair (Roseburg, Oregon) in the early 70's when "Snowbird" was a hit. As a young teenage boy, I fell in love with her (although she never knew it, haha). Over the years I bought most of her albums, and considered her "the best" (when all my buddies were either listening to hard rock or hard country). Much as I adored ALL of her songs over the ensuing years (now I'm almost 66 years old!), a few years ago, I came across "Over You" on one of her greatest hits albums. Last song on the cd, almost like a "Side B" afterthought. Holy Cow! How on earth did that song slip through the cracks over the years?! I'd never heard it before. To me it's her best work. What a tender, plaintive song of "sweet agony" and unrequited love. No one I know could deliver that song like Anne Murray, who manages to convey heartbreak and anguish in her vocals as if she is actually living it. Still in love, Anne....😊
I was listening to one of my Spotify playlists and this song went playing...this caught my attention and took some to do a research about the singer and the song was one of her hits... What a very inspirational song and singer.
Beautiful. I just realized I can truly sing this song very much like you do. We (my love and myself) just love it. Brought us back to our childhoods today as we saw you perform it on Sesame Street on a vid. We were the children of the 1970s. Born in '71. How wonderful your music always was and definitely still is. Thank you.
I'm a guy, and nothing is too sappy for me! I love all styles, including rock, disco, boy bands, girl bands, rap, etc... I just love hit music. This song is amazing, and a well deserved #1 hit in the USA. :)
I knew of Anne Murray and her music years ago when I was in grade school because this song, "You Needed Me," was the hit song in the Philippines... A week ago, I heard the song again on the radio and it brought back a lot of memories and so I started listening to more of her music through the internet... I have been playing her songs over and over and been watching her interviews, the more I get to know her, the more I admire her...
Yes, What an interesting video. I use to play guitar and my dream was to become a folk singer and imagined myself singing with Anne Murray! I identified with Anne in so many ways.....It is great to see these videos to hear her music and remember those "good old days".
She's great and I'm so glad she stuck to her guns and got the song released... it's great and a classic. I'd like to pitch my songs and have someone re-record some of my material. You never know what's going to crawl out of the woodwork ;-)
Those people made a good point. If someone is taking you from a dumpster to a dream love nest in paradise lifting you so high you can see the stars to eternity.... isn't it you that needed him/her? Obviously it's sort of mutual but still this is kind of like making a song about a race horse called You Saddled Me
The most beatiful Country song of history and one of the most beautiful of all time. Thank´s lendary Anne Murray. You is the best.
We played this song at my dad’s funeral. He loved this song so much. My mom and my siblings - we saved him after years of addiction. We needed him and that was enough to bring him back to the light. Thank you, Anne.

Beautiful words for a timeless voice, timeless Melody, timeless rendition.....❤❤❤❤
You’re so right! It’s about the Lord Jesus
There's no doubt in my mind God sent this song.

Great story. Excellent song.
The magic in the studio that day, Anne, was your voice. Nobody will ever sing this song better than you. Simply beautiful !!

Happy Birthday Anne! 😘❤🎶🎂🎉
I love your beautiful voice, still listening here in the Phillipines.
You Needed Me: Anne Murray the Canadian Songbird
Many times I thought this could be a song about a relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is my favorite Anne Murray song.
My all time favorite Singer
Omg....what a great story ❤❤❤
It was my dad that introduced us to your song. He thought you had a voice of an angel. Beautiful...
That fact that "You needed me" gave her a #1 hit in both Canada & the USA in 1978 is pretty spectacular. This song needed her
Love her music. Classy lady and beautiful voice. That song touches your heart.
As a child I sung this song along with Ann so many times my family always stopped every time this came on tv to watch me sing a long. Ann’s voice felt like home to me, her voice felt more like a mother to me than my real mother
Love this song so very much. It fills my heart every time I hear it or sing it. So beautiful 😍

My first concert was Anne in Irvine California back in the early 80’s. She was and always will be magnificent.

I was listening this all the time when in Taiwan , feel grow in this song
You needed me
Is one of my number one favorite song from Anne Murray
I glad she brought up the title of the song, I wondered why it was called "You Needed Me" Instead of "I Needed You"?
My Wedding Song.

유니드 미 노래를 만들어줘서 감사합니다
Wow she aged so well and so healthy :-)
Stick to your guns. Shows why she is an icon. Not just talent but instincts.
Anne still has a beautiful voice second next to her is Barbra Streisand
Add Gladys Knight to that list
"You needed me" sounds good but the meaning doesnt connect to the story of the song.. "I needed you"will put so much sense into it.
