Agreed! This is one of the truest things ever said about martial arts. I would call it 'taking the initiative'. Always try to get back initiative if someone else acted first. Initiative is usually giving a free shot to someone, or taking a free shot at someone. The morality of the situation can be debated afterward. Peace!
I've been considering getting into martial arts when I go to uni but my intention was to get into one that would genuinely help in real life situations. I've watched just two of your videos and I think I've learnt more about fighting than I have from anywhere else. Great respect to you and thank you for your clear (and necessarily brutal) honesty.
Once I got tackled from behind by this guy trying to start a fight. I got up and posted out with my left hand to maintain distance, then threw a couple overhand rights. Two of his friends started kicking and punching me from behind, so I had to turn sideways and go into pure self preservation mode, keeping them all at bay. Even though I defended myself, and probably hurt the attacker more than he hurt me, I still busted my finger by landing on it when the guy tackled me.
Proactive self-defense needs to be taught to everyone if hitting first means you can go home safely its not even a consideration. Excellent term "second round" its something that I have always thought about, we live in NI and its a real thing but I have never heard it articulated like that. Great video as ever solid advice cheers. Take care folks.
Spread the realism Luke great advices thank you, I just was wondering why I don't put my ego anywhere, why I don't provoce like 90 percent of ppl do. I got some idea about it but now it's very clear. Peace!
You said the second round might be the police knocking on your door - Do you think its advisable to notify the police if you were just in a fight and make a report, or are you saying you think it might be more sensible to just go about your business and if anyone else bothers to report it, deal with it then?
+Jose Rodriguez No I think that the kid that slammed the other kid on the groung landed his head on the concrete and got himself a ko!!!(if you watch carefully you'll notice that the first thing that hit the ground was the head of the guy with blue shorts).
That was worth more than any training videos iv seen, great advice! sometimes you gotta get your Gee dirty.

I would be very interested in hearing any bouncer stories you have about stuff like this. It's true that experience is the best teacher.

Yep, that's right, and THAT is why mma sucks! They wait for an attack and usually get their asses kicked.
