I went with 3 and 5. Other that one being about 1db down against the other they were identical. Now complete. Sound absolutely fantastic. No distinguishable different between them.

I'd go with (I think) 4 and 5 - the ones that are the bottom 2 traces at 20khz

for accuracy, the bottom 2; if your customer is of advanced age/hearing, the top 2 might suit him better....

I'd think 3 and 5 because those match best under 10.000hz

    Greetings from Kyiv!
Discovered your channel recently and its such a joy. Plenty of information in one place for a British audio fan like me)
I would kindly ask you for an advice about one of my pairs, the rogers Ls7 mk1
They’re in great condition overall, but age.. 40 years, so the question should i be doing recapping and what caps would you recommend? Poly or electrolyte? Is it worth investing in some expensive caps? Maybe any other tips I should consider?)
So sad I am too far to just send my rogers to you :)
    Thank you in advance

If you like them the way they are you shouldn't be messing around with different type caps. The moment you start putting film caps where electrolytic was you are changing the sound and these speakers would not be ls3 5as anymore.

I refurbished a pair of those a year or so ago. I think there is a couple of 4.7uF polys which should be fine. There's a couple of ALCAP electrolytic capacitors which I'd replace like for like. Really the only upgrade I'd do it replace the resistors with something better. MOX resistors like Visaton. Inductors are ok. Air Core on the tweeter circuit. Iron core on the woofer but I'd leave them be. Nice speaker. Stay safe. Matt

      Ls7 Lovely pair indeed.
Doing our best in terms of safety)

@@haycrossaudio5474Hello Matt, sharing some updates over ls7.
I followed your advice, used some jantzen and mundorf resistors, changed alcaps like for like and replaced 4.7 polys with jantzen superior z-cap.
Its night and day. Such a pleasure.
      Thanks for your advice. Pavlo

The speaker appears to have an SP1003 bass driver, but the crossover idms for the later SP1228 driver. This will give a frequency response nothing like the BBC specification.

I'll post all the measurements taken in part 3. Nothing stood out. Sounded lovely to. They were made up with what I got sent though.

      @@D100hughesMorning Derek.
REW and a calibrated UNImic1. I spent the time getting the set up right. I use it a measuring space I built in my office. Pretty good down to 200Hz. When the weather is good I measure outside but living in Devon that's not often 🤣.
I use DATS to for impedance testing.

@@haycrossaudio5474 I am on the south coast in Sussex, if it's not raining it's probably too windy for testing outside!
I use the Clio system with their mic or one I built myself.

@@D100hughes 🤣🤣 yeah a windy day isn't ideal, or rain 😃. One day I hope to invest in CLIO but for now REW works nicely. The results are good enough for what I do at the moment. I've got a little line of BBC inspired speakers I'm working on so if that takes off the definitely CLIO. Nice to chat to you. Some of my other videos might be of interest.
      Cheers. Matt

Thank you for opening this little speaker cab. I can see where Brits lack in over all build quality. Many mistakes made by Rogers adding un necessary items due to lack of over build quality. Brits are known for being Brutal, bad teeth and just NOT that intelligent. I could easily improve these cabs and eliminate some of the un necessary items in the build, im not even a speaker builder. "Why would they mount the cross over so close to the tweeter they needed padding?? Just slow/dumb. Use 16th rise screws and the cross over would not even touch the tweeter, giving more cooling and breathing room between items. No res media. 16th of inch is all needed, maybe slightly less. I'm German, we do things precisely.

Listen, Princess Michael of Dachau - come back when you've designed a speaker that people still covet and enjoy listening to 50 years later. 😅
