The Tule Elk were saved by Henry Miller, the Cattle King (not the writer), when he protected the last herd. He set up a reward to report anyone bothering the elk on his property. The California law was important, but if it wasn't for Henry Miller almost a century earlier, there wouldn't be any Tule elk.

I've made several trips in Sept-October on my boat to Tomales Bay and anchored in White Gulch, inside Pt Reyes behind Tomales point. I have taken my dinghy close to shore and seen within 100 yards, herds of Tule Elk foraging along the shore, including seeing bulls fighting and rutting with cows. Somewhere I have VHS recordings of the activity. I will never forget those views.

Nice work man! I like the rangers expression and pause when she says "we call those groups 'harems' ". I like the camera work and the sound is passable. I would have toned down the light behind the ranger, or turned up the key light. Maybe add a little saturation to the color of the elk. Work on your narrator voice. Speak ina lower register, watch your lispyness, and get a large diaphragm condenser.
    Overall: AWESOME!

the herds could be even bigger if they would release them in more areas.

Absolutely! A great idea! It IS a national park after all. Tear down all the fences - which are only needed because wild animals in this national park interfere for privately-owned, govt.-subsidized private businesses that have dug in their hooves and won't leave the park - cattle and dairy operations. Both of which are the park's #1 source of water, soil, air, and ocean pollution! Yikes. And if that isn't enough, now the park service is being pressured into SHOOTING elk for the ranchers. The herds would also be bigger if they had access to water.

What a shame that you no longer protect them or their habitat. Your commitment to save, protect the Tule Elk habitat was a false promise. You have bought into the greed that is taking every precious animal and habitat on our planet -human greed. You have allowed the local cattle ranchers to dictate their death. Shame on you and for not standing up to the local cattleman, state government. This is shameful!

@@jennycallaghan3073, the NPS in Point Reyes National Seashore pretty much does the bidding of the ranchers who live there, and who were supposed to have left by the late 1980s, per their agreement with the Federal government. The ranchers want to expand their operations and drastically cull the Tule elk back. Numerous environmentalists and scientists have presented overwhelming evidence that the ranches are devastating the land in this beautiful park. But the NPS is fine with turning this park into one big CAFO instead of its intended purpose, a 100 percent wildlife refuge.
