Philippolis

It gives us pleasure to confirm that Friday 21 Sept 2012 was indeed a momentous day in the history of the pretty town of Philippolis.
We were honoured by the presence of our Mayor, Mr Xolile Matwa, our Municipal Manager Ms Lebohang Moletsane, our speaker Ms Matana Masana, our unit manager Ms Hadinkame Ramakoae and the other officials of the Kopanong Local Municipality. Our Bergmanshoogte children sang the Anthem with us in a packed Town Hall. The launch of the Philippolis Cleaning and Revamping Initiative was indeed a turning point for our town. Positive cooperation between the community and our Kopanong Municipality is the answer to many challenges. Our farmers, our workers, our business people, our housewives, all our people are taking hands.United we will stand. Together we are taking ownership of the responsibilitieswe are facing as residents of the oldest settlement in the Free State. We want to forget our differences and work together as a diverse but united people.
It was a picture most of us will never forget: children cleaning the fields and streets, tractors and heavy machineryat work, women sanding street poles, farmers shuttling workers to different points, pensioners managing projects, young and old men mixing concrete, fencing being installed, gardens arising from the dust, a broken storm water drain being fixed in little time, executive members of the Kopanong Municipality visiting businesses on foot, food being served to the workers.
WE MAKE OUR TOWN OUR WORK
We will not stop working until all the sectors of our little town arebrought to their rightful standard, and thereafter we will work to keep it that way and to develop this hamlet into the best place in which our children can grow up, our breadwinners can work and our seniors can enjoy their days. We want our children to have beautiful parks to play in, we want our senior citizens to have benches to rest on, we want people to enjoy the shade of trees, we want a clean and healthy environment for us all, we want to create as many jobs as possible, and we want tourists to flock to this town in their thousands.
We want to thank all who are helping to make a difference, whether you are giving your hands to collect rubble or working with a shovel, or whether your machine worth over a million rand is repairing our roads. This initiative is being made into a success story because your efforts come from your hearts. Thanks to Kopanong Municipality for fueling our project with R79000.00 already paid to BKB. Thanks to Lab-o-Mat for R10000.00 cash which we used to buy cement, paint etc. Thanks to every person who donated material, time, food, equipment, paper, sanding paper etc so far.
A bulldozer is desperately needed for restoring our dumping site. Normal vehicles cannot enter the site anymore. Just yesterday the Kopanong Municipality's bakkie had three flat tyres, hampering service delivery. Kindly send us your ideas. There is surely enough work for a bulldozer in our municipal area. What about someone establishing a small earthswork business which can deliver services to us, the municipality, the farmers etc?
We still need a lot of building material, fencing material, indigenous trees and plants, food for the volunteers, hands to help.
Any ideas, suggestions or positive critical advice are welcome.
On Thursday 27 September and Wednesday 3 October we will have further cleanup and revamping days, although we have volunteers working every day.
