Bro when I first got my Pixel 3a, the first thing that got me was how good the speakers sounded. Like Damn. Spent 3 whole days listening to and gaping at the quality and bass. Google really nailed the fundamentals, just like they did with the Pixel Buds 2.
Thank you for this review! This is exactly what I needed. My Pixel 2 XL just kicked the bucket after a nasty fall, and I've been looking for a quick, affordable replacement. I love the Pixel so much that I didn't want to deviate from the brand, but I also didn't want to splurge on the 5 (the Pixel camera is so great to begin with, I have no need for more). I believe the only downgrade from the 2XL to the 4a is that it's not water resistant, so I'll just have to be more careful. The flimsiness is fine as I'll be putting a case and screen protector on it.
I mean, to be fair, why do you need water resistance? If I'm not wrong, JerryRigEverything pointed out the seals in the phone anyways, regardless of rating or not. So if the only water damage you phone's going to take is light rain, I don't see a problem with the 4a.
I still think this phone is peak Pixel, or at the very least peak Pixel a series in terms of value for money. Each one since has impressed me a little less each time. What you got here for the price was incredible.
iPhone SE aged better than this, both in terms of performance and update support. I really regret buying the Pixel 4a. The only good thing about it is the photo's. The rest is rubbish.
@@portman8909 Disagree completely. iPhone SE is an extremely unbalanced phone. It has amazing internals for the price, and has the benefits of being an iPhone (though all the drawbacks too), but then it has a god awful screen that phones a third of the price put to shame, bezels you could land a jumbo jet on, and a recycled body that was already extremely outdated when it first debuted half a decade ago.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad phone (though I think it's overpriced) and if your only priorities in a phone is raw power and long term support, then it's easily the best phone at that price point, but in pretty much every other area, it doesn't have much going for it and is many years behind most other phones in that price range, and even those that are much cheaper than it in many regards.
It'd for sure be an easier selling point if it got a re-design like the iPhone 13 Mini chassis and screen. But in the end it does just work and gets much longer support. Something I'd want if I don't intend to upgrade my phone every 2 years.@@The-Fishkeeper
Budget phones should be considered anything 200 dollars or less. 300-500 should be mid range and 600-1000 should considered high end. Anything above that should be considered stupid
@@officialhideyo Well Motorola has been sold to Lenovo since, Blu is not good enough lets be real, and Pixel phones always seemed to lack that something before. The 4a finally seems to deliver everything you could ask for at $349.
It's probably comparing to the flagships. I mean I'm using a mid-ranger from 3 years ago as my daily driver so I'd probably find it a huge upgrade, but for MKBHD it's just... okay.
Tbh, that whole More megapixel thing was started by Chinese smartphone makers. Samsung until their note 10 ignored that. Galaxy s10 was the last Samsung that could rival Apple and pixel. Now Samsung is in the same shit city as other chinese vendors. Also, that whole 90hz refresh rate gimmick, i mean higher refresh rate makes more sense on a gaming monitor, for smartphones, it doesn't have anything productive except FEELING SMOOTH and draining battery faster. Again, Samsung ignored it until s10. I mean you can't make screen refresh faster snd simultaneously expect it to display colors accurately, which leads to tints on screen and aberrations. There is no smartphone that has a headphone jack, another shit city feature.
Totally agree with this one. Its a phone. They’re just adding more features to compensate the price when they can just lower the price or invest on the software do they can support it for more years.

I think he meant the animation speed because while he was doing that there was 0 lag. I always turn down the animation time to .5 because it just makes things take less time. But some like those animations. It's all personal preference.
Also since he himself said he just came down from top flagship phones, I guess his eyes are still accustomed to 90hz or 120hz displays. Along with that ,maybe the animation speeds on pixel are slower which can always be changed.
If its similar to the 3a os, it does feel clunky. In my experience apps do open fast but switching between apps or from lockscreen to an app can be bad. Something about notifications is off too
@@spreak2623 I have a 4a, and it's not like the 3a... and it has nothing to do with the OS, and had everything to do with the hard drive that was in the 3a. My 4a feels snappy and hasn't had any issues opening apps or unloading them.

Going from Pixel 2 to pixel 3A felt like a step down in the consistent long term performance in exchange for staying up to date in everything else at half or less cost. Expect the same idea here.
I'm sure you've started using the iPhone 12 by now

A: "NOOOOOO"
HAHAHAHAH Other smartphone brands be like: "More useless cameras! More megapixels!"
If I'm being honest you need ultrawide and telephoto and if you are going for more you could go for a chromatic
Tbh, that whole More megapixel thing was started by Chinese smartphone makers. Samsung until their note 10 ignored that. Galaxy s10 was the last Samsung that could rival Apple and pixel.
Now Samsung is in the
same shit city as other chinese vendors.
Also, that whole 90hz refresh rate gimmick, i mean higher refresh rate makes more sense on a gaming monitor,
for smartphones, it doesn't have anything productive except FEELING SMOOTH and draining battery faster.
Again, Samsung ignored it until s10. I mean you can't make screen refresh faster snd simultaneously expect it to display colors accurately, which leads to tints on screen and aberrations.
There is no smartphone that has a headphone jack, another shit city feature.
@@aaronstone6183 you have a LG V60 with headphone jack + no refresh affordable compared to others

And after that just casually shows how fukin smooth the UI and UX is :D this guy sometimes I swear....
