    For what I do, I’ll accept the minor tradeoffs for the extra power. I like Zhiyun’s approach in that regard.

    Thanks! this is by far the most helpful review of this light! You deserve more views!!

    You've put on the diffusor, turned it to 100% and then laid it on the table, face down. Some people just want to see the world burn.

    So I was looking for lighting for my room for building computers and shit because my ceiling light is wacky. You sold me on the bathroom light part 😂

    Thanks for this review! The fan noise just ruined it for me.. I was going for the high output, but I also would've prefered a screen with CCT/Intensity values instead of the knobs that you have to guess by aligning the numbers... Concerning the silicon diffuser that is getting very hot, I don't think it would actually melt down.. cooking tools are made of silicon so they probably used a very heat resistant material. Or did they? 🤔Anyway, SKIP!

    I used one last night for the first time and loved it. The problem I have is the battery.

      They work well, just not built well and the fan is super loud. I'm actually using two of them for my zoom calls at a low brightness.

    Thanks for the honesty bro. I’ve been looking for a video of someone talking about the heat issue since I can’t believe it could punch out so much power in such a small package without any heat issue. The other videos seem like they are salesmen of the product. They got it for free? Maybe 😂

    Looking at getting a light to add to my collection. Appreciate your points of view and some of the information given. I still think I am going to order one (without the fire hazard though) as in most of my scenarios it should work perfect. Just wanted to say thank you for an honest review and I'll try let you know how it goes for me!

      I do believe they are about to release an update and the new one has a screen. Not sure if it is available just yet.

    They are adressing most of those issues with the new model M50, which will have 25% more power, double the battery and a metal grid for the fan, and a black and transparent design, coming out pretty soon i guess

      Cool. I’ll probably see it at NAB this year. I glad this is a company that takes feedback from their customers and makes improvements on their products.

    Hi I really enjoyed your review of this light! I do macro photography! I've tried flash, it works but it very heavy. I'm looking for a bright light that is not on the heavy side. I'm not bothered by the sound of the fan. If this light is powerful as it looks to be, I think 50 to 60 power settings would work! What other light source in this size and price range would you recommend!!! Thanks for your help!!!!!👍👍👍

      Thanks! The Zhiyun G60 is my new favorite light. I have actually put that on mo camera and taken it to trade shows. I have an NABshow rig build on the channel where I show how I use it. Sounds like that might be what you are looking for.

    Almost no LED panel I've used gives accurate colour temperature indication, so dialling in is no less accurate on the M40. Fan noise doesn't matter if used in the real world, fair enough if you're looking for something for a studio environment, but I would say most people are not in a studio. I personally love the light, it is so bright and so small I carry it with me everywhere. it's bright enough to work outdoors in daylight which is quite remarkable for something so small. Heat-wise, I would be shocked it if stayed cool pumping out that light on 100% , so I find your criticism unfair.

    • @Ranger7Studios
      @Ranger7Studios  10 місяців тому

      Actually, any panel with +/- Green/Magenta can be color corrected to a 0.0 correction gel. In fact, there are several lights that are almost spot on right out of the box. To say that no panel can have a 0.0 correction is not true. The M40, is pretty on at 5600K with a 0.5G and at 3200 with a 0.3G. So it's not a bad light at all when talking about accuracy. What kills this light for me, is the lack of a screen, lack of knowing what your color temperatures is (the ones that aren't marked on the dial) and the thunderous fan noise. And yes, sound noise DOES matter in the real world. It depends though. I did say in the video, that if you are doing work that does not require sound, then these work well. But at more than 5 feet, I can hear these and I have gotten complaints from my sound department about them. So for now, these will be only for power outrages and soundless work. So yes, it does, in SOME cases, matter.

    • @Ranger7Studios
      @Ranger7Studios  10 місяців тому

      Also, a lot of people are using this in their studios for UA-cam. So to say that they are not is also incorrect. They are using it in many use cases. So I will respectfully agree to disagree. Again, I do always stress why it does not work "FOR ME". I do realize that it may work for others. But it doesn't in my work flow.

      @@Ranger7Studios hi, I use mine for ENG mostly and therefore usually noisy environments so don’t mind a bit of fan noise. I wasn’t having a go, just pointing out that to dis the light you have to first explain that for many what it lacks in quiet, lcd displays etc, it makes up for in light output, portability and ease of use. Plus being able to use with a usb c plug is awesome.

    Guys! I purchased this light and I said, this is so good I can take it everywhere!! BUT, on location, the battery is only 25 minutes, and if you put the charger on, It doesn't work!!!! It's a terrible choice!!!

    I don't get it. What a way to measure the loudness of fans putting the light like 1cm away from your lavalier. In real life you're going to place 1-2 meters minimum away from your face.

    • @Ranger7Studios

      Well, it works really well when the power is out. So why not? I use a lot of my lights when the power goes out. One of the perks of having a filmmaker in the family. LOl.

  • @hagen-stoll

    Bad purchase! M40 - the fan is so loud! ... completely unusable at 100% for video... this is the loudest fan I've ever heard. When I turn the lamp up to 100%, it's impossible to make sound recordings in the same room. At 50% power it's okay... but that's clearly not the point :-(.

    • @Ranger7Studios
      @Ranger7Studios  Рік тому

      Yup. It's pretty bad. That's why I use them when the power goes out. LOl. I also use it for live streaming at my desk. But again, I don't need more then 20% for that. Yea, not great. The G60 is much better.
