My favorite part is how Monkey's more concerned about looting some magic items than rescuing the party, and then his hard-cheated loot turned out to be quest items.
In his defense you should always gear up as much as possible before a boss fight. These sacred treasures make great D&D magic items Gourd of dissolving: you speak a creatures name and force them to make a wisdom saving throw or be sucked into the gourd. A creature in the gourd dissolves in 1d4 rounds. This magic item has no effect on celestials. Golden rope of binding: as an action, you can make a ranged attack roll (30/60) and a creature of the size category huge or smaller is instantly restrained. Fan of flames: as an action, you can wave this fan the air and all creatures in a 30 ft. cone must make a dexterity saving throw or take 8d10 fire damage, or half as much on a successful one.
The ring of stealing ( dunno it’s reall name) (from the (currently) latest video) can steal an enemies weapons items and literal spells but can be freed if stolen from the “lair” area but nothings stopping you from stealing them again note summoned creatures technically count if unless they have enough intellengence can be stolen as well
okay but restrained with no way to get out of it is super broken and so it will either trvialize encounters or never be used when the dm inevitably throws only huge or gargantuan monsters at you

Will Red continue her awesome streak of putting out amazing videos? Will Blue get more than one line? Will we the fans get Part VI before 2019? All this and more on Overly Sarcastic Productions! *laughs* Just kidding Red! Keep up the good work! XD
5:40 this makes way more sense when you learn the Demons are just attendants who were tasked to make an obstacle for the heroes. the Gold Horned Demon is just like "We are clearly not a good obstacle. Let's just leave it now"
I watched the “Journey to the West” cartoon as a kid and I can remember exactly which episodes these stories correspond with and that is the extent of my accomplishments
It's a Chinese cartoon called 西游记 or Journey to the West and it's AMAZING! Idk if there are any English subtitles and stuff, but here's the link to the one I watch. ua-cam.com/video/Ek_SP2mDI2c/v-deo.html
Strangely enough my fave character other than Wukong is Sandy. Why does he have to babysit Pigsy? And he and Monkey just have this understanding like dude you’re my right-hand man.
I feel it’s worth mentioning here that during the whole “dropping three mountains on him” thing, the first two do absolutely nothing. While carrying Mount Sumeru and Mount Emei, he is able to “run with the speed of a meteor.”
8:50 I love how it starts playing music from Inuyasha, which aparently was inspired from the journey to the west. I mean the dynamics of a the monkey king and Tirpitaka is pretty much the same as Inuyasha and Kagome
Well, it maybe due to they were developed in the anti-Monkey King project of Heaven after Buddha seal him. Likely those used as restricted weapons as they are powerful enough to counter the Monkey King, one of the most powerful beings around.
Okay but can you imagine Quan yin just like "LmAOO did you see that Pigsy said there was a big iron door full of demons hey Lao tzu you're never gonna believe this yo let's prank them can I borrow your assistants we're gonna get them so good"
“Tripitaka asked Monkey King to carry the demon on his back and Monkey King agrees.” Me: wait I thought Sun Wu Kong could see if- Sun Wu Kong: Yeah I totally know he is a demon and I am dropping him off the first cliff I see. Me: oh...nevermind then
I love this series so much! BTW it does make sense for the demons to have a mother (and other relatives). The book does not clarify if she is their real mother or adopted mother, but it makes sense either way: The golden rope is actually Lao Zi's belt, and it's in the fox's possession, hinting that she and Lao Zi had a past; or, considering the demons are actually children (in demon/god time), it makes sense for them to have someone to look after them . She might be taking care of them even before they became Lao Zi's apprentices.
Sun wukong reminds me of an rpg character doing every sidequest. "So you're telling me there are five sacred treasures?" "Yes." "I'm gonna go steal them all." "Uuuuuuuuuh... alright."
>tries to trick enemy into failing to use the gourd >finds out the hard way it doesn't matter what name you use >escapes and steals it >comes back >abuses the fact that he only has to call out to you and you respond for it to work Wukong, the original hacker.
Loki Scarlet My question is WHY it still works with the wrong name haha! What would happen if you used someone else's name - would you be sucked in or would they?
It works because it's not name-based. It works on the same principle as Transmission Control Protocol. You call out to the other person. This is a synchronize request, or SYN. They acknowledge your request. This is a sync-acknoledgement, or SYN-ACK. The gourd acknowledges the verbal handshake. After this ACK, the gourd decides the payload of the conversation will be "IMMA EAT YOU" and sucks up the target who responded to you.
Loki Scarlet Yes, but by that logic, if you used someone's actual name, and both of you responded to the call, then which would be affected? How does the artifact distinguish intended targets?
Also note that Inuyasha is just a reprise of this story. Literally, through and through. Inuyasha is Sun Wukong, Kogami (a reincarnation of the most virtuous shrine priest EVER) is the monk. The cast is an exact duplicate of this ones. It's actually pretty badass lol.
what the text when monkey is under the mountain says "Okay calm down don't think about what horrible stuff that horned demon might be doing to the others ESPECIALLY not Tripitaka just focus on LIFTING these MOUNTAINS it's not hard they're just rocks that think they're BETTER than you but they're NOT they're just big that's all they've got on you so just LIFT ignore the fact that you have NO leverage with which to LIFT just defy physics like you always do and ignore the debilitating flashbacks to the five HUNDRED years you spent EXACTLY like this exept with actual FOOD even though it was actually molten copper it was better than nothing but worse because now I've got PEOPLE to worry about(?) INEFFECTUALLY while I'm stuck here forever and MY NOSE STILL ITCHES"
Monkey's ludicrous use of his immortality, divine summoning, duplication and shapeshifting in this episode convinced me that this entire story is like playing through a game with console commands enabled.
So if Sun Wu Kong is an allegory for the mind, Pigsy probably represents base desires/emotions. As said, the horse is human will, while the monk is the soul? What is Sandy? Fortune?

MissMix it’s not boring it’s actually better because there’s more Tripitaka getting kidnapped she said she skip stuff also it could also be that it’s 2000 pages long..... seriously it’s long
I don't know how the translated version says, but *Tripitaka is the type of leader that favours flattering employees over the smartest ones.* Before the white bone spirit, the conflict has been building ever since Tripitaka trick Wukong about the cursed hat. From Tripitaka's perspective, the Dragon Horse and Sandy were subdued by GuanYin, while Wukong was a trouble-maker (more conflicts within the chapters that you skip). Meanwhile, Pigsy wants to replace Wukong's place, because their relationship in Chinese traditional culture, despite being similar to brothers, Wukong as the oldest disciples has status over Pigsy and will likely gain a higher rank after they complete the journey. The wood wolf star is the first demon who shows the squad that how powerless Pigsy and Sandy are compared to Wukong. That is also why the first thing Wukong did after he returned to the squad was to regain leadership by sending Pigsy to scout and proved that he was too lazy to do anything useful. Your artwork is really cute, but I don't know how to think about the subtle shipping of Tripitaka and Wukong 😂
3:25 “Okay calm down don’t think about all the horrible stuff they could be doing to the other especially not Tripitaka just focus on lifting these mountains it’s not hard they’re just rocks that think they’re better then you- but they’re not they’re just big that’s all they’ve got on you so just lift ignore the fact that you have no leverage with which to lift just defy physics like you always do and ignore these debilitating flashbacks to the 500 years you spent sealed away exactly like this except with food even though it was actually molten copper it was better then nothing but this is worse because now I’ve got people to worry about while I’m stuck here forever and MY NOSE ITCHES.” You’re welcome.
Yeah anime tends to enjoy pulling references from Journey to the West! It is really epic so I can't fault them there lol. Son Goku is literally based on Sun Wukong too.
They actually have 4 of the items, with them missing just the vase, which makes sense in terms of usage. The gold brother uses the rope and fan while the silver brother uses the gourd and sword.
2:58 Aw my boi is learning from the mistakes of the past! Namely, that having Demon Eyes in this story is like being an oracle in Greek mythology-means you know everything but are incapable of convincing anybody of that.
3:05 Monkey King: Hah, you think that a mountain can hold ME?! Been there! * the demons drop two more mountains on him * Monkey King: Okay that might actually be enough to hold me. Well played.

I say that to every piece of work i get XD
These sacred treasures make great D&D magic items
Gourd of dissolving: you speak a creatures name and force them to make a wisdom saving throw or be sucked into the gourd.
The fan of flames could be a reworked wand of burning hands. Less work for you do.
The ring of stealing ( dunno it’s reall name) (from the (currently) latest video) can steal an enemies weapons items and literal spells but can be freed if stolen from the “lair” area but nothings stopping you from stealing them again note summoned creatures technically count if unless they have enough intellengence can be stolen as well
@@jacobsheehan9715 a
okay but restrained with no way to get out of it is super broken and so it will either trvialize encounters or never be used when the dm inevitably throws only huge or gargantuan monsters at you
@@ILiekFishes I think it could be solved with a str save at the end of that creatures turn. DC could range from 17-23 since it is a magic item from the heavens.
I feel like I've been waiting 10 years for this. Worth it.

Who else would totally watch this if this was an anime show. That would be so awesome
Already one, just in Chinese
Totally bruh
there is some animes based on this(other than dragon with is the more famous) the is sayuki reload blast, shinzo(also called mushrambo)and there is probrably even more.
I mean, this is like 50 anime shows by proxy
There are quite a few animated versions of this but they're mostly in Chinese
I love what Monkie Kid does with the demon bros, lmao. They’re inexplicably British and played for pure comedic relief. heck, in season 4 their (actually not dead?) mom shows up and asks the protags to not beat up her very stupid sons.
Wait when does their mom show up?! Also aren’t they Australian
@SwoopyGHOSTS it is their assistant manager, not mom. Though they do seem to have a familial relationship
A lot of people don't realize that the demon brothers inspired the Gold and Silver brothers in Naruto during the 4th Great Ninja War along with the 5 sacred treasures as well. Journey to the West really inspired a lot of shounen anime.
Journey to the West needs an anime theme song immediately!
Rachie And The Waves well you have a username that sounds like a band, go for it!

"MY NOSE STILL ITCHES!" The whole internal rant is just great.
This is literally becoming one of my favorite series on UA-cam and it's just retelling another story but in the best way possible. I am completely happy with this
Yes! I've been waiting for this!
I relate so ridiculously hard to Monkey. "Heeeeey, just so we're on the same page, I totally know you're a demon...I'll be dropping you off the next cliff I see." *gesticulates to try and express how on point that was*
Monkey is 100% the human mind "Oh boy! SIDE QUESTS!"
Will Red continue her awesome streak of putting out amazing videos?
Will Blue get more than one line?
Will we the fans get Part VI before 2019?
All this and more on Overly Sarcastic Productions!
*laughs* Just kidding Red! Keep up the good work! XD
Find out next time on Tripitaka's Bizzare Adventure!

This is so true that I want to laugh and cry at the same time
Time travel
5:40 this makes way more sense when you learn the Demons are just attendants who were tasked to make an obstacle for the heroes. the Gold Horned Demon is just like "We are clearly not a good obstacle. Let's just leave it now"
I watched the “Journey to the West” cartoon as a kid and I can remember exactly which episodes these stories correspond with and that is the extent of my accomplishments
which anime series?
which anime series?
It's a Chinese cartoon called 西游记 or Journey to the West and it's AMAZING! Idk if there are any English subtitles and stuff, but here's the link to the one I watch. ua-cam.com/video/Ek_SP2mDI2c/v-deo.html

Strangely enough my fave character other than Wukong is Sandy. Why does he have to babysit Pigsy? And he and Monkey just have this understanding like dude you’re my right-hand man.
*_MY NOSE STILL ITCHES !!!_*
the bromance between Monkey and Sandy shown in this panel (9:18) is so cute lmao
I k r
8:58 "A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night."
Lord of the Rings! :)
i see your a man of culture as well
3:28 I freaked out about what happened to my screen
I feel it’s worth mentioning here that during the whole “dropping three mountains on him” thing, the first two do absolutely nothing. While carrying Mount Sumeru and Mount Emei, he is able to “run with the speed of a meteor.”
8:50 I love how it starts playing music from Inuyasha, which aparently was inspired from the journey to the west. I mean the dynamics of a the monkey king and Tirpitaka is pretty much the same as Inuyasha and Kagome
I was waiting for someone else to point out the theme music.
The brothers plot is def 100% the lightning brothers plot
do you know what music is playing at 5:40
i've been waiting to see if i had to point it out :)) thx
Right down to the "migraine spell" placed on Sun Wukong. I immediately thought of Kagome's "sit" spell hahaha
Well that was fun. Can't wait for the next episode in 2029.
Ouch! Burn.
Finally I’ve been waiting for this!!! Love it!!!
Monkey: "A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled this night."
I FREAKING LOVE YOU, RED

Everyone suddenly pulling out powers that they never had before and will never use again... did Hirohiko Araki write this part?
Well, it maybe due to they were developed in the anti-Monkey King project of Heaven after Buddha seal him.
Likely those used as restricted weapons as they are powerful enough to counter the Monkey King, one of the most powerful beings around.
The writer must have used their STAND 『 FORGET 』 to forget their original powers and come up with new ones

Who cares? Fair enough.
because this isn't an anime
it's a visual novel
But what if they made it into an anime :)
Okay but can you imagine Quan yin just like "LmAOO did you see that Pigsy said there was a big iron door full of demons hey Lao tzu you're never gonna believe this yo let's prank them can I borrow your assistants we're gonna get them so good"
Finally Sandy shows why he's along for this wild ride.
“Tripitaka asked Monkey King to carry the demon on his back and Monkey King agrees.”
Me: wait I thought Sun Wu Kong could see if-
Sun Wu Kong: Yeah I totally know he is a demon and I am dropping him off the first cliff I see.
Me: oh...nevermind then
RubySage718 same here
2:50
He did learn his lesson from the last time when Pigsy kept getting him trouble for taking out the disguised demon unprompted.
i loved how well played that was on wukong's part
I love this series so much!
BTW it does make sense for the demons to have a mother (and other relatives). The book does not clarify if she is their real mother or adopted mother, but it makes sense either way: The golden rope is actually Lao Zi's belt, and it's in the fox's possession, hinting that she and Lao Zi had a past; or, considering the demons are actually children (in demon/god time), it makes sense for them to have someone to look after them . She might be taking care of them even before they became Lao Zi's apprentices.
that explains why the brothers weren't all too hung up on their "mother's" death
daphne cui
well in the first show, it stated that the mother tricked the 2 to follow her.
Sun wukong reminds me of an rpg character doing every sidequest.
"So you're telling me there are five sacred treasures?"
"Yes."
"I'm gonna go steal them all."
"Uuuuuuuuuh... alright."
THE TIME HAS COME!
Execute order 66.
Time to re watch the other 4.
8:47 WHEN THE INUYASHA BATTLE THEME KICKS IN 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
CAN YOU TELL ME THE NAME PLEASE
I KNEW that sounded familiar. I couldn't think of what it was from, I was thinking Fire Emblem for some reason.
yES!
never mind, I found it
it’s been a long time since I watched Inuyasha nice to hear the song against
I know Tripitaka is a monk but the more I learn of his and Sun Wukong’s dynamic the more I see the basis for SO many anime romance tropes.
>tries to trick enemy into failing to use the gourd
>finds out the hard way it doesn't matter what name you use
>escapes and steals it
>comes back
>abuses the fact that he only has to call out to you and you respond for it to work
Wukong, the original hacker.
And if you use someone else's name, it doesn't matter. Wukong tested this mechanic. It works by acknowledgement, not by names.
Loki Scarlet Yes, but by that logic, if you used someone's actual name, and both of you responded to the call, then which would be affected? How does the artifact distinguish intended targets?
Little too far into it, dude.
So happy this got made, was worried she had forgotten about this one
I don't know how considering on other videos she always has someone shouting at her to make part 5 of Journey to the West
Pretty spicy Inuyasha music. (:
Just reading the comments to see if anyone else had noticed it.
@@avatarjakara I was thinking the exact same thing!!!! In the second episode of this the first thing I thought of was Inuyasha 😂
I knew that music sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it.

I'm impressed you not only took the time to read it but, write it all down in the comments as well
Yeah, good job ! Kudos to you!
Also, my nose still itches...
Monkey's ludicrous use of his immortality, divine summoning, duplication and shapeshifting in this episode convinced me that this entire story is like playing through a game with console commands enabled.
At last!

Love your channel btw.
I'm not going to say sometime this weekend because that would be setting myself up for failure... but hopefully sometime this weekend
AAACCCCCKK FINALLY! I MISSED THIS SERIES!! THANK THE GODS AND GOD!
So if Sun Wu Kong is an allegory for the mind, Pigsy probably represents base desires/emotions. As said, the horse is human will, while the monk is the soul? What is Sandy? Fortune?
hard work? I think I heard someone say that.
I understand that MK is the impulsive nature of the mind, where sandy is the calm and collected side
Wukong is spirit, pigsy is appetite, sandy is logic and the horse is will. The monk is the arbiter who maintains balance between them all,

Dont say you love the anime if you havent read the manga
Even though its not manga but still
actually there is a manga version that's almost exactly the same as the original, but it's a manga.

I'M DOING BOTH LOL

DolphinKitty3 now you’ve jinxed it! We aren’t getting another episode until 2020!
I guess I should be looking forward to seeing it in 2050
I don't know how the translated version says, but *Tripitaka is the type of leader that favours flattering employees over the smartest ones.* Before the white bone spirit, the conflict has been building ever since Tripitaka trick Wukong about the cursed hat.

Oh, so the Gold and Silver demons are a Journey to the West thing. I know they're in a Dragon Ball filler episode and also Naruto. Fun!
MozillaVulpix. Yep, I remember those episodes and they were really good.
Yeah anime tends to enjoy pulling references from Journey to the West! It is really epic so I can't fault them there lol. Son Goku is literally based on Sun Wukong too.
And Inu Yasha, and I think many more. It is interesting seeing all the origin of all these troupes
MozillaVulpix in Naruto they even have 3 of the 5 secret treasures, it is actually a really good reference
They actually have 4 of the items, with them missing just the vase, which makes sense in terms of usage. The gold brother uses the rope and fan while the silver brother uses the gourd and sword.
I love how the Jade Emperor sounds like Chi-Fu from Disney's Mulan. XDDDDD
2:58 Aw my boi is learning from the mistakes of the past! Namely, that having Demon Eyes in this story is like being an oracle in Greek mythology-means you know everything but are incapable of convincing anybody of that.
2:49 the Demons truly unforgivable act was making Sandy self conscious about his appearance!
So, wait, what did the *sword* do?
it's a sword. it does sword things.
they can't ALL have aesome magical pwoers.
Murder
Just a god tier sword belonged to daozu, mortal stuff would've vaporized against monkey's stick.
