you can swap a sim card only if it is compatible with an unlocked device. which means low end old smartphones are not likely to work. For instance, Samsung J series.

I just found out they are moving everyone over to a T-Mobile 5G SIM and that will be the new SIM. You will then easily be able to move it to a knew phone to activate it now.

Quick question: I want to buy another Samsung S20 and keep as my backup since the S21 no longer have SD card slot. Any downside to it you think other than potentially 5G LTE no longer being supported in the future? (which I would think would be a long time from now). My previous Samsung died on me and if not for my SD card, I would have lost so much info (I don't like to save personal info on the cloud and backing up data all the time is a hassle for me)
I don't see any issues with getting the D20 as a backup. Since newer phones don't support the SD card another option is to use a USB-C Drive and backup your device periodically to it with Smart Switch. Here is the type of drive (Affiliate link): amzn.to/33pQVev

But if I were to use it, I would do it the old fashioned way, hook up flash drive to phone and manually back up. Didn't know you could use Smart Switch. If swapping back to a device, like you did at the end, I need to move the Sim card back, correct?
If the old device already has a SIM card that you have used before, it can just use the old SIM card and no need to move it.

Probably the previous one was an eSIM ?
sprint doesn’t let you do this, because the sim card doesn’t work exactly like it does on a proper GSM carrier.
