I think this should be a Colleen and Erik only excursion. It's good to set healthy boundaries around mom and dad alone time. Especially since Erik planned this trip as a surprise and has been looking forward to it for so long.
Coming from a mother of 5 and married for 26 years, take the time with Erik. The fish will always be there or somewhere else. You are like me, we give so much of us to our children and there is nothing wrong with that, but your relationship also needs to be nurtured. Take the time with your husband and enjoy one another. You and Erik need this one alone. Erik is such a good guy he doesn’t want to tell you no, but he definitely wants you all to himself for this one overnighter. You can plan a short vacation for Flynn another time. ❤ Also - a friend of mine gave all her kids “old people” names and they are very cute. One of them is Evelyn and I think it is so pretty.

About taking Flynn to see cuddlefish: as a busy mother missing free time with my husband, and having not even a month ago taking my kid to an aquarium, I would just chill and enjoy my husband for a second 😅

Two moments made me laugh. Having 500 tabs open, and Erik thinking it’s going to be a romantic adventure while Colleen asks about bringing Flynn and a babysitter. You guys are the best.
You need to go on this romantic adventure with Erik, Colleen. He had it planned for the two of you. It is perfect and you haven't been off on your own in a very long time. You both deserve it. Then book a different flight/ trip with Flynn. Changing the flights now will cost you more than booking them later for another trip. Erik, I don't think that I have ever seen "High School Musical " either. If I did I have no idea what it is about. We did watch "Glee". We still have a Carvel's in my town. They still make "Fudgy the Whale" Hugs and blessings

Colleen... Please don't take kids with you on your trip, TRUST ME! Go back with Flynn another time. I've been with my husband 20 yrs, & we haven't had alone time or a date night since our 3rd child was born, 4 yrs ago. I put ALL my time & energy into our 3 kids & my husband gets the tired, overwhelmed, overstimulated, mostly irritated, version of me that's leftover. A few weeks ago a huge fight escalated between us that almost ended our marriage. He demanded alone time & I turned him down & he just exploded with frustration. It seemed so sudden & it shocked me to the core. But turns out it's been building up for yrs & I'd been ignoring all the signs, until he was finally like "If you don't want to be with me & make any time for me, then I'll find someone else who will." After thinking about it & seeing things from his perspective I know that he was hurting even though I never did it intentionally. I was just focused on being a good mom, & not necessarily a good wife. I can hear the disappointment in Erik's voice. Take the trip together so you can relax & reconnect together. Your marriage can only benefit from it.❤❤❤

Colleen, its better to make a second trip for flynn. I did the same thing with my husband and he would abide by me ruining our date nights because he knew it would make me happy, but eric really needs that time with you. So it is best to make a second trip up there another time and just put all of your attention to eric. I can tell he's really wanting it, especially since he brought up the honeymoon thing. You gotta feed and care for your marriage just as much as your children ❤
Yall should go to the concert by yourselves. I know you love your kids, but its important to have things for you to enjoy on your own too. you deserve it! You can ALWAYS go back, and this way you wouldnt have to bring a sitter if you just go back at a later time.
Colleen, I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the East Coast of Canada. Right now, our Museum of Natural History has a narwhal exhibit. I think it would be worth it for you to visit here solely to see the exhibit and get the proof you need of narwhals’ existence.
Can you both react to videos of yourselves pre-children? I’d love to see if that person you were then, feels familiar or a world away.
There are two types of people in this world people like Carrot and my husband who delete old messages, old emails and close their browsers and then there’s those like me and Colleen who never do and fun fact they’re usually married to each other lol.

Definitely need to listen to what Erik is saying to you. Don’t ignore his comments on the trip. It’s clear he wants some time alone with you, try to take time to relax and connect with him. You JUST took Flynn and the kids to Monterey. This trip should be for you and Erik.
And if you knew he’d say “no” about taking Flynn if you didn’t ask him on the podcast, you already knew he’d want the time with you. That’s not kind, like at all. He sounded sad. I don’t know how you don’t hear that change in his voice when he said he’s “your” cuddlefish. 😢

I’m pregnant with my first baby. We don’t know the sex yet but if we have a girl we decided to name her Anastacia after my great grandmother. I think that is a name that could come back. Nicknames could be Anne, Annie, Anna…❤

I also vote that the cuttlefish trip should be separate. I think you would have so much more fun at the festival AND the kids would have a lot more fun at a separate trip planned in advance
I’m of the opinion that you two should go enjoy your trip. Go check out the aquarium experience for Flynn and then decide if you want to all go back and possibly even take the twins. Or just take Flynn.
My husband and I have taken to watching the podcast together when I get home from work on Wednesday’s. I actually stayed home from work today because I’m sick. So we’re watching it earlier than we usually do. But we were both cracking up about the number of tabs each of you has open on your phones. I’m exactly like Colleen with a total of 247 tabs open on my phone and my husband will not allow himself to have no more than 30. Which I guess means even Erik would think he has too many open. I’m still laughing about this. What we both want to know now…is this just a girls and guys thing, or is it just certain types of people? I’m curious to know and now I’m hoping you’ll read this on next weeks podcast.

My Mom and Dad had the happiest marriage before my mom died of cancer, and she always told me you need to put your spouse above all things because one day the children will grow up, get married, and leave the home. The best gift you can give your children is to have a strong loving relationship. It's already the weekend so you're on the trip now; I hope you decided to spend time with Erik reconnecting and enjoying good music. It's okay for Flynn to have not seen the cuttle fish last time because children need to learn how to deal with disappointments. Flynn had the best time at the family vacation trip to the aquarium! If you want to plan a family trip to San Francisco, that would be wonderful. You have a great relationship with Erik, but everyone still needs to work on their marriage and make the spouse feel important and validated. Love you guys so much! I hope the concert is amazing!!!
Hi Colleen and Erik, I'm a teacher, and I remember when High School Musical was so popular. I hadn't seen the movies, but the kids in my class (third graders) wanted to sing the songs, and I couldn't believe how well they sang, they knew all the words. Since then I have seen probably the first movie, it's a really great movie. Love you guys!

Coming from a married mom I’d say definitely make the festival trip about you and Eric. You’re a lot like me cooling who would go to the end of the Earth for other people, especially our kids even if it means not doing something we would love. My husband tells me all the time, I can do something for me and us as a couple sometimes and not have to feel guilty about it
Colleen i live in san francisco and my children and i go to the california academy of science verry often my kids love it, its beautiful its definitely kid friendly i have 1,4 and 7 year olds and they all enjoy it, i definitely recommend and if you like chinese food i definitely recommend going to dumpling house it is delicious

As a parent, one of my favorite things has been watch Disney Channel original movies from my era with my kids! My daughter is 8 and is obsessed with HSM and I am so here for it

Omggg Erik's sleepwalking story just unlocked an old memory!! A few years ago I was dating this guy and one of the first few times he spent the night at my house he slept-peed.. So I'm dead asleep when I wake up to the sound of something splashing on the floor. He was in the corner of my room peeing on my dog's bed (the dog was not in the bed thankfully). I yelled at him "WHAT THE ** ARE YOU DOING??" | definitely wasn't as kind as Colleen
He woke up
and was super apologetic. The next day we talked about it and he said he has no idea why that happened. Best he could guess is the distance from my bed to the corner was about the same distance from his bed at home to his back door where he usually woke up to pee (We live in small town Alabama). So you're not alone Erik! And at least you didn't actually do the deed Imfao
Colleen, I work for Smuckers and Jif. We make Smucker’s Natural peanut butter (we also make Laura Scudder’s, and Adam’s PB). We sell peanut butter stirrers on your company store website. I can send one to your PO Box!
But for now, put a butter knife into the jar. Once you reach the bottom of the jar, just rotate the butter knife in a counter clockwise (or clockwise)motion. You can also store the jar upside down so the oil seeps to the bottom of the jar, then when you turn the jar right side up, all of the oil is on the bottom of the jar. Make sure the lid is screwed on tightly, of course. I love you, have fun at the concert!
COLLEEN I have posted on literally every post to tell you guys I was on a family vacation three weeks ago and went to Long Island Aquarium and there were 3 different types of cuttlefish including a flamboyant cuttlefish and saw them with my own two eyes I literally got so excited because I was channeling Flynn’s passion for them!!! Totally worth it!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

I scoop out my peanut butter into a mixing bowl and use my hand mixer to blend it, then pour it back into the jar and store it in the fridge (they say refrigerate after opening on the jar) 😁

Okay. I had to pause your podcast in the middle of the name segment because you keep naming my family’s names. Lol. Hilarious! Wayne is my ex-husbands name. So I gave my son his name as a middle name. I have a brother named Donald. My Dads Mother (the only Grandparent I knew) was Ruby, my Mothers Dads name was Alma. I about fell off my chair when Eric said that. Lol. Anyway. That was fun.
