I think their meals are some of the tastiest available, and I’ve tried most on the market. I had the same issue with the bag and left a friendly review on their website. Ben, one of the owners, took the time to send this to me in response: -- Hey David, Thanks for leaving a review on our biscuits and gravy product. I just wanted to let you know why the large bag. What you see in our photos and what we normally use is the 12oz (this may have been the bag you are talking about I didn't go and look at when you ordered). The dimensions on that bag are 10.125 x 6.5 x 3.5. While we don't love these bags for their size we do love them for their impact on the planet. Our plan is to get custom sizes created however to do that we have to order at least 20,000 bags and as a small batch company we haven't been able to make that large of a purchase yet but we are working toward getting set up in a new space which will increase our capacity and we will be looking to make that leap to a custom bag, hopefully, this summer. Because of how covid affected manufacturers throughout the world Tek Pack Solutions did not have any of our "normal" sizes available. So we had to use their larger 1 pound bag (this is most likely what you got as it's more absurdly too big. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. However, our product doesn't fit into the smaller bag option (you mention the 9inch 1/2 lb bag in the review). We've tested with that smaller size and it doesn't work. Anyway, Tek Pack Solutions couldn't give us a timeline when they would have new bags available so we had to choose either the larger bag or going with a different option like a mylar bag. We choose the larger bag from Tek Pack Solutions Anyway just wanted to explain and make it clear it's got nothing to do with the sticker and we don't intend to keep it this way and never choose this as our ideal but under limited options the best available. Our ideal will be a much shorter bag, currently thinking something like 6 inches tall :) All the best! Ben --
I just happened upon your channel. I love your Camper's Café reviews. As a retired woman on a fixed income, these are very helpful in preparing for the trips I take. Subscribed.
Let’s see how many other old people watch and enjoy your channel. When I started hiking in the early 1960’s with my dad and well into the early 1980’s the only option we had was Dri Lite food, or you took canned food! Dad was pretty sure C-Rations tasted better. The powdered eggs were the best of the worst. Great vids
Thank You. I've been looking for something besides Wise and Mountain House..... They get old quick. I appreciate the heads up y'all. Hopefully you all are having a wonderful spring day.....like we are here in KY.
I have bought a few different brands of back packing food. Comes in handy when I can't get to a truckstop for a meal and don't want to cook. I like meals that only need boiling water to heat it up. I'll take a look at these meals.
Thanks for the great review Suzy and Luke! Been looking for backpacking meals of better quality than Mountain House and am definitely going to try Pinnacle foods out. Loving Campers Cafe, love you guys.....Strength And Honor
I have a tendency toward high blood pressure and try to limit my salt intake to under 1500mg a day. For me even 500mg per serving is high which is why I make my own backpacking food.
@@malekdarshin No it doesn't. Potassium and Sodium are both very similar chemically. Your body self regulates the potassium levels. This has nothing to do with sodium. On a cellular level, your cells are using a sodium-potassium pump to effect the exchange. Three sodium ions will be booted out of the cell and replaced by two potassium ones. This is a far more complex process than what can be explained here. But Potassium does not bind to sodium. If it did, it would throw off the entire cellular process which is necessary for life. Potassium Citrate is not used to treat blood pressure conditions and isn't normally prescribed to patients with blood pressure medications.
Thanks for the review guys. I am looking for some of these meals for my twins which they are planning a hiking trip. Early birthday presents! Feel that both of you have experienced many freeze dried meals and know what is best out on the market. Thanks for the video.
Luke and Susan, I don't know if you have a Trader Joe's store in your area but they sell some incredible meals in plastic ziploc bags and cheap, too. I made some pork pot stickers yesterday, fried them in extra virgin olive oil, added some of my own spices and ate them with roasted halves of brussel sprouts. The pot stickers were $4.99 a bag as are many of the variety of meals. I know you have a portable refrigerator for overland camping. Today I found some incredible tea flavors I'm dying to try out.
I'm a prepper and have dehydrated meals in my pantry, mostly the 4Patriots 72 hour packages, a few Mountain House, Pantry and one other brand I cannot remember. They are all stacked in a large plastic bin. However, when I hike or overland camp I like to plan a menu and cook it from scratch. Cooking is an activity I enjoy instilled by my mother who was a phenomenal oriental cuisine cook. She also picked up some pretty awesome recipes when dad was stationed in South Carolina such as ham hocks and black eyed peas, fried chicken and others. I love watching You Tubers who add cooking to their bushcraft or overland camping videos. I write them down on 3X5 cards and have practiced several of them at home to get the spices right. Anyway, I went to the Pinnacle Foods site to order a couple of meals to try them out and they are presently out of stock. I'm on an email list when the stock is replenished.
Ok I got so excited, so excited to try the Pinnacle Foods products you raved about only to find .... they are Out Of STOCK....No worries. On the list to be informed when it is back in stock. So..... I ordered their Breakfast and Coffee. Thanks....love you guys.
In the Army I used to cut MRE entrees sideways to make the packs a bowl instead of a pouch. I cut most of the freeze dried packs in half before eating to make them more manageable. Then again I've never cared for Gandalf or long handle spoons.
I just checked out the site and I have to say, everything looks amazing. I like the calorie and protein amounts in each meal. I would definitely go this route for a 3 day trip, probably too expensive for a week long adventure. The length of the bag is not an issue for me, I would just trim it down after re hydrating since I need to pack everything out anyway, would have a trash zip lock that I store in my bear canister.
I agree 100%. That meal you referred to is my favorite; less sodium & a lot more grams of Protein & carbohydrate calories than the PInnacle Foods meal reviewed today. I've found I have to open the Peak Refule package at home, weight out 2 equal portions, put the portions into ziplock baggies & when I'm ready to eat the 1/2 portions fill me. I pour the portions of freeze dried food into a cup of boiling water. Once I've added the meal to the cup of boiling water I insert the 750ml Titanium cup into my own home-made Koozie. After the 10 minutes to re-hydrate I have a meal that is still almost TOO HOT to eat. I use a small fold- spork. No need for a long handled one.
Good test! In particular because after a decent hike and expenditure of energy, when you are hungry, fairly bland food can feel like the best thing ever, but if you try the same product again later, when you aren't starving, you are disappointed. If you are impressed with the product during a casual lunch, it'll be even better after several miles of hard going : -)

We put one serving on the bag because we feel the two serving bags are misleading, we always eat a full bag. Our meals have comparable calories and almost twice the protein as the two serving meals. Thanks! -John
Are the people afraid of longer cooking times? Quick boil rice ..7 minutes, normal mashed potato powder..no cook time. And the cost? Just twenty grams more fuel? We did two weeks on 1200 ml gasoline...two persons. No special mountan food.. So where is the extra value?
Susie, Luke👍👍 Well done video. I've often wondered why the packaging for these kinds of foods are not Eco friendly/biodegradable. After all, this food is made specifically for people going into the wild/back country, hence the price. Seems like if we can put a helicopter on Mars, we could come up with something. Yeah, I get it, carry out your trash...but I see this all over in the bush. As far as the food goes, no thanks, can't handle the sodium content or preservatives. Weight is less important to me, I bring foods that are wholesome and heavy and when consumed in a couple days, my KelTec CMR30 secures what I need 😉 Enjoy!

Weight is less important to me, I bring foods that are wholesome and heavy and when consumed in a couple days, my KelTec CMR30 secures what I need 😉 Enjoy!
$11.99 ? ! ? !
forget that

After watching vids of you appearing to think that an unseasoned can of beans eaten straight out was cavalier, I trust your wife's opinion on food more than yours! Stay safe

Is it really worth the extra 3 to 4 bucks a meal over Mt House?
We think so😁 are meals are chef prepared with nearly twice the protein, and we use high quality, fresh ingredients that won’t drag you down after!
For the money, it doesn't look very inviting. It's just a brownish mass. Should have larger pieces of identifiable food in it.
