I remember the DIY being more expensive as the starting price doesn't include RAM and SSD etc., but the pre-built option only have that 3 options.

      @schmo611  Рік тому +2

I just did a side by side comparison of the two and the diy IS more expensive! I can’t believe that! Anyway with the prebuilts that they have, I wouldn’t have been able to get exactly what I wanted so I still would have gone in that direction.

I paid 1060€ for mine, using 32 gb 3200 and 2tb I either had lying around or bought separately. 8 gb 256 prebuilt is 1200€

Well you can also find cheaper RAM and SSDs on your own and not from them. For the same specs it would be cheaper.

Good review. Also are you considering on making a long-term review as well?

This review is after 5 or 6 months of use. Whether or not I’ll do another review is kind of a toss up. Kind of depends on the number of views this one gets and my mood lol.

Mind doing a Framework 16 review as a desktop alternative in coming years? Maybe a review of the current Fairphone 4 or upcoming Fairphone 5 as well?

    • @schmo611

If I could afford either, I would. I am a broke college student and my channel is small, so I have to buy everything I want to review. That’s kinda the biggest barrier rn.

You do not REALLY need extra USB type C of those port thingies. They themselves socket into a USB type C port. So if you need a USB C and you have a port you're not using, just remove the module and insert the USB C directly into the laptop. Of course, some things might not fit well in there, but at least the charging should be doable like that.

I'd still strongly recommend the type c port extension, because the expansion card are designed to take on the wear caused by the force applied to the port. This will make your internal ports less at risk of getting damaged if you trip on a wire or just last longer from the reduced wear.

I plan on buying my first Framework Laptop and I’ve got my sights set on the 13 model like the one you’ve got! I heard of the computer from Linus, and while his vids are fun and nice, I wanted to get another opinion on the Laptop before I actively buy the thing!
More specifically, my purposes for my FW will be mostly similar to my MacBook, being video creation and animation. But Framework is more for experimental, “Galaxy brain” animation and of course a back up for if my MacBook ever goes Kaput!
(And I know when I buy a new one I can just reinstall the memory from the cloud! But I want to have a laptop I can fix, modify, upgrade, and grow as my needs grow!)
Thanks again for this review Dude!😁

Note that the iGPU is nothing like the M1/M2 and there's no discrete option.

This thing runs so damn hot all the time. That is the Achilles heel. I'm literally going to have to sell it because you can't use this like a portable laptop i.e. away from a desk and not have it run super hot and loud just on UA-cam and web browsing.

Interesting. I haven’t had this problem. This and my trackpad issue might show some inconsistencies between each device.

If you still have it, check if your bios is up to date and check your drivers. Theyhad some issues early on that they had to resolve.

I haven't even taken my Framework laptop outside yet so the glossy screen doesn't bother me. I've heard worse laptop speakers, these actually sound decent. Webcam & Mic are certainly good enough, I don't use them much. Another neat thing about the Framework is being able to define how much the battery charges up to, nice feature if you're usually plugged into a wall most of the time.
