Hi everyone, and thank you for your nice comments :-) For those who are interested in knowing more following my Shakespeare video lesson posted in July 2015 (The influence of Shakespeare on everyday English, ua-cam.com/video/alInQ7nzKrI/v-deo.html), I can recommend a new page on Facebook offering a short daily reading from a Shakespeare play or poem: 'Shakespeare 400 Daily Reading'. The page launches on 23 April 2016 (the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death), but it's already available for you to have a look and click 'Like' if you wish. Thanks and see you again soon :-)
+Learn English with Gill (engVid) Dear Gill, I have "Shakespeare's use of think" -The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Methink! How do you find it?:) Do you still use the word in your speech? Many thanks for your brilliant lessons. More Shakespeare, please!
Thanks Sahsa -- 'methinks' isn't used in modern English, unless someone is trying to make a joke :-) For those who haven't seen it before, it's an archaic form, meaning 'I think'.
+Learn English with Gill (engVid) So I can use the word as a joke, good! Thank you for the reply (or the answer?) I appreciate it. Fare thee well (look after yourself)!:)
Raaad Ahmed I'd say respectable. Here's one difference I've found online: Respectful: When one person shows respect to another. Respectable: When a person is *worthy* of respect.
I am delighted with Gill because is a very good teacher for me. She is very friendly as well. I am a retired maths teacher and I am currently studying English language.
Teacher you are a lovely and amazing English teacher. You speak in a way that we be able to understand everything that you have teached to us! I very appreciative your English classes!
Thanks a lot Gill! Every single day I play your videos. I love your accent, voice and the way you explain the lessons. It's a wonderful combination of good pedagogy and loving what you do. Thanks again and again. My best wishes. Eva
Hello Gill, Thanks for your effort to teach English in a way which has been presented in a much easier way than other teachers of engVid. I am delighted that I found your videos and learning quite different topics that were not covered by others. I am not quite sure whether it would be a good thing to ask you whether you teach English privately in London? The thing is that I want to go in an advance stage but I want to get 1 to 1 lessons. And I found, you might be the one from whom I can be of more beneficial. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a lovely day.
Hello, teacher Gill, your lessons are so nice and very helpful for me, because I will stay in UK for a few years, so I was finding good english lesson, finally I do, really thank you ^^
Dear Gill, I have just discovered your youtube channel! I really enjoy watching your videos, you do have a brilliant and clear way of explaining things. Thumbs up for your videos! :)
this is a useful lesson to me, let me congretulate you. we really thank you a lot and suggest you continue whith this because it will help us improve our language
Wow! Sounds amazing your english Gill. Definitely I am really enjoying a lot. Have never seeing nothing like this before. Honestly you are an excelent teacher. With all my due respect, how old are you? Do you like reading books out loud? Why your english is so clear? You are so lovely. Thank you so much. I have been learning some tips through these english lessons. As you notice through my writing i am not native english speaker, just a self-taught studying hard every single day to master english ang get fluency. Thank you so much! Would be wonderful talking to you through skype. Have an enjoyable week. Peterson/Brazil.
I learn only with you , Gill ,yuor English is fantastic : I listened to it when I was in England - my dother lives in UK and I wont to know this language very very much!!😀
Thank you for this wonderful lesson. Can I ask what is the difference between "think something over" and "think it through"??? Seems to me the same meaning both
Hi José -- the word 'again' can be pronounced in two different ways, just as in the two audio clips here: dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/again Even within the UK, people pronounce it in these two ways -- it's not strictly divided between UK and USA. I hope this helps :-)
Dear Gill, thank you for your time. Your answer makes sense to me. I thought I had the feeling that one spelling was preferred over the other one; as I still have that feeling with the word "ate" -/et/ and /eɪt/. /əgen/ thanks a lot!
Yes, I teach English and there's an amaizing thing about the word "think". Most of my students learn easily this word and feel very comfortable using it in practice. While other words like quit, quite and quiet make total mess. Could you advise me how to help them distingwish between these words.
Hi - I agree with you, words which are spelt in a similar way, but mean very different things, are difficult and cause confusion. One thing I would recommend, which you probably already do, is to give example sentences containing those words, to try to clarify the actual usage. For example, "Since I quit my job, my life has been quite quiet." ;-)
Nice lesson teacher! I just have a question. Is it okay to say... thinking "in" or what preposition should I use to make it right? thank you very much!! Hugs! 😊
Yes and No. I think about cake. I think about money. OR When I think about sport, I think of football. When I think about music, I think of Beethoven. OR I think of puppies when I feel sad. If you were a Frenchman living in England you might think in French but speak in English. You might think in Euros when you talk about money. You might think in circles if you are confused.

One of UA-cam's most respectable teachers.
I think respectful make more sense than respectable ,agree ?
Raaad Ahmed I'd say respectable. Here's one difference I've found online:
Respectful: When one person shows respect to another.
Respectable: When a person is *worthy* of respect.
+Mohamed Farouk, aha thanks a lot .
+Mohamed Farouk i see what you mean but is it ok to use both in each other contexts ?
+Mohamed Farouk I agree with you, the correct way is respectable because respectful is a person that respects another people
I saw her just on this video's thumbnail and immediately clicked. Don't know why, I felt like I have a connection with her

Dear Gill, which do you THINK is the preferred spell for that word, 'again': /əgen/ or /əgeɪn/? Thanks for your time. José.
Hi José -- the word 'again' can be pronounced in two different ways, just as in the two audio clips here: dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/again

If you were a Frenchman living in England you might think in French but speak in English. You might think in Euros when you talk about money. You might think in circles if you are confused.
Thank you so much Jill !!!
