I am one of your quiet subscribers, watching, learning, and l more, but not commenting. This time, I feel a need to shout with joy: FANTASTIC TO HAVE YOU BACK!
Me, too! Thought this was an excellent video.
Same! Was happy to see him pop up in my feed this morning!
"Probably in the top 5"? Jesse, you are number one in all of our hearts.
Proud your back. Good to see you. I appreciate your videos.
FAVORITE farm channel!!
NRCS anecdote... New/female/veteran farmer in Virginia. Applied in Oct 22, inspection and cleared to go forward in July 23, ordered and built and inspected for pay in August, received payment in November 23. I did the pay in full option since I saved my lunch money for a year to buy in full. Feb 24 they sent the 10-99 for taxes for the grant. I love my local agents but it is slower than a sloth harvesting cold sap
High deliciousness is definitely a thing.
I work at a micro green farm, and we always prime certain seeds, mainly because of size. Peas, corn, nasturtium, and other larger seeds are primed because soil moisture takes forever to hydrate those big dry beans!
Thx for the info, always looking to get seeds going as fast as possible.
I found it nearly impossible to grow spinach w/o soaking them first. Thanks for clarifying the other seeds that this also works well for.
Perfect inspiration timing! May have just got a 30 acre farm to grow real food in South Central Ohio!!!! Looking forward
You're in the top two of the farming channels for me. My wife got your book for me at Christmas, and I've enjoyed it.
"Objectively sucky,"😂 my morning laugh is accomplished. Thank you!
1. NTG
The rest are far down the list!
Good to see you back. Can't hardly wait for all the fun stuff you will be sharing in 2024!
8:22 🐈⬛🖤 hey, kitty cat. I always appreciate you highlighting low budget, high value options. My market garden is small (1/2 acre) but I've run out of room in the garage for seedlings and don't yet have the budget for a tunnel/greenhouse. Lots of good ideas here to think through. Thanks!
For warming worm beds I used a heat tape. I cut out the thermostat and wired straight. Then plugged into a temperature controller. Work well to keep at 70 deg F
Happy growing 2024😊 .. Lots of usable info as usual. Thanks for sharing (I've enjoyed the humor & the quick clip of the kitty).
Happy Gardening 2024! Thanks for the book signing! I'm looking forward to growing in south central Indiana, since moving here from hot Florida. Hoping that I can grow more in this climate.
I appreciate your humor and the content of the videos. Very informative. Good stuff!
Jesse,
You are a true inspiration!
Thank you so much!
You are knowledgeable and wise!
They are rare, but Johnny's has a few determinate cherry tomatoes, and there are a few determinate heirlooms, like Nebraska Wedding. I really wish there was more variety within determinate tomatoes. They are mostly red, which is boring. Carolina gold is a nice yellow determinate, for those interested. If you know of any purple colored determinate tomatoes, please share.
Your stale seed bedding tip with row cover is under utilized by market gardeners! I do this with most of my beds!
Pm me. I'll give you a name of a determinate cherry tomato. Kristi bellmann.
I'm a No-till gardener also, on my main garden plot. I still do till the plots that I plant my field crops. I love incorporating low tech tips, and do grow year round. I enjoy watching your videos and glean some extra knowledge to apply in my growing arsenal.
I enjoyed the train track i lived near. Amazing way to tell the time. Also, im very much enjoying your videos. The information is amazing. Thank you.
We usually refer to non-raised beds as "in-ground".
As always, thanks for the thoughtful analysis, you nerd.
Love your content and comedy for sure!
Just when you think . I learned all !
What a joke , I guess it's a lifetime in the progress of learning . Thank you for the awesome tips . No wonder I failed over and over on spinach, beats, and a few more . But then, I live in a zone that is only late summer to early spring. I can grow these veggies. 😊
Shout out to European Farmers!
Love it when you throw in the kitty cat
You (and Eliot Coleman) mention other passive ways in your book for soil warming in spring for those of us who want to put less plastic in contact with the soil. Fear of shedding micro plastics and the like. Soil color, so mulch and compost choice. And then for windy areas and small scale a small temporary wind break can impact air temps right above the soil a few degrees.
I liked this video because I like this video. I’ve been a subscriber and have The Living Soil Handbook!
If you're not a Patreon subscriber to No-Till Growers feel guilty. # 1 for content, creative thinking, and presentation.
Awe that's sweet. Also we're happy that our stuff is open and free to the public, but if and when people can pitch in we certainly appreciate it 🙌
Step 1: Brew Coffee
Step 2: Turn on A NTG Podcast
Step 3: Prep 25 gallons of soil media per 500 blocks, or 10 trays
Step 4: Punch out 2x2s, 4 at a time
Step 5: Tend to crying baby
Glad you are back!
I would say you are at the TOP of my growing channel picks because you don't mess around and chop it up thinking it would bring people to watch more. Hmmm? Miss an important part in a chop up or get the video with TOP info! Thanks ! I even got the book !
Hi Jessie, great to see you again😄
All our respect. Thanks
Love your channel!
I didn't realize that Gothic high tunnels are more prone to wind damage- thank you for mentioning that! In the queue for NRCS grant, and am currently researching tunnel types. Also excited to dig into the seed priming episode!
Top 3 for sure.

RED Gardens
Yall are top three, though realize its a solid three way Tie.
Never heard of RED gardens. Now I need to look them up!
@@midwestribeye7820Bruce Darrel's work is great. Check it out. Jesse interviewed Bruce on the No Till Growers podcast in '22. Definitely look up that episode as well.
@@midwestribeye7820 They are amazing, he tries experimenting in his garden, he never seems to take "The basics" as the norm and always tries new things, then explains his gains and losses in detail, it is truly one of the better ways to garden, to experiment and share the knowledge gained, just as No-Till Growers does.
High deliciousness 💚💚💚
Concerning your heat cables, those are similar to the heat cables that run along "wet" sprinkler pipes in parking garages. They are used to prevent freezing.
Perhaps you could run them under some Pvc pipes filled with water. Though, you'll get a bunch of extra airflow underneath the trays, if they're propped up an inch or so.
The thought is to use the thermal mass of the water to retain/distribute heat.
Maybe you could do the same thing with bricks?
#1 favorite dude!
Welcome back Jesse
You are my number one farming channel, even though you are a nerd but it’s okay my wife is also. Lol
Regarding the height of the row cover:
Assuming you’re sinking them until they’re close to looking like a half a circle, and given that the bed width (the diameter of said circle) is 30”, the height should be the radius of said circle, which would then be 15” high?
Hey! I have that same hoodie! Very comfy :)
Missed your videos. Thank you
ThankQ
Heating cables do much better in damp sand
More info on those heat cables. I bought it from Amazon. But chickened out after seeing all the warning hazzards in the instructions. Change my mind. Please.
Gm have you heard about the purple GMO tomato that a company selling to the backyard gardeners if so what do you think about this thank you have a good day
Yes I have heard about it. I think it's gonna be catasrophic for the sales of all the good purple tomatoes that already exist. I have been farming for a longtime now and there is perhaps nothing customers want less than GE veggies.
Hi Jesse, have you looked at carbon fibre heat sheets, used as underfloor heaters in RV vehicles. I put up a link, but it was deleted - 12, 24v and quite wide, 3ft or so.
I have not but that's an interesting idea
The word you were looking for is "unraised"
In the cat tunnel containing your mud pie seedlings. Are you using the old permaculture principle of water filled black containers, to passively heat after sundown? If so are you having any remarkable results with that? I do have your book, but I am a slow reader.
yeah, I address my issues with that towards the end of the video I think. Or at least I do in the next video! 😉
I don't see how a gothic arch is less strong than regular tunnels, so long as they are braced properly. Gothic arches are better at shedding snow.
Does anyone know the height the hoops will be from the 30” bed and length of the hoops of 60” ?
In ground beds…
Great video but we have to stop calling USDA-NRCS cost share money, grants. This is a reimbursement cost share where the producer is upfronting the cost and then being reimbursed a percentage of the cost. This takes producers by surprise and cause financial hardships.
THERE IS lag on the seed website :D lets groowwwwwwww sun is already a shinin
Many say, "Thank you for your service" to soldiers, who have signed up to advance the elite's agenda. "Thank you for your service" should, instead, be said when one meets a farmer.
As a 4th generation farmer, married to a 3rd generation farmer who is also a 4th generation veteran, AND parents to a current Army lieutenant, how about "Thank you for your service" to BOTH professions?! One feeds the country the other protects the country.

Well, I've broken several lids which does not seem like a sentence that someone should be able to write but 🤷
