It`s a great song! The new versions (Gregorian and nine inch nails) have their own style, but they are also nice!! I`ve heared the gregorian version first on FX-Radio. A german dark wave and underground internet radio-station.
it lacks emothion because its a chant...... its meant to be creepy not powerful like reznor or johnny cash meant it to be( yes i know johnny cash didnt write the song hes just the most notable cover and itsas famous as the original)
They used some of Cash's lyric changes though, 'I wear this crown of thorns' is the Cash cover, NiN says 'crown of shit'. Which is something I never liked about the song (NiN original) when it came out anyway, it just doesn't flow right.
Love the Gregorian music.... it's mystical and just wonderful to listen to it....
