One of the best parts of your journey over the last couple of years has been the journey. You have tried out new ideas, been honest about what has & hasn't worked, and kept the constant focus on dealing with the cost of living and healthier food. We can all relate to your daily efforts.
Re what is happening in the rest of the world - we can do nowt about it! But it is one more reason to be prepared. You have shown us the way you have managed to improve your situation by reflection, research and hard graft. The community that you have built on here add in with their experiences and tips. You encourage and lead the way in giving to charity. A fantastic little whirlpool of good in a world going nuts! Thank you so much Karen.
I love your shopping hauls, please don't stop. I was inspired to make Lorne sausage and it is delicious, and doing price comparisons between your part of the world and ours is fun as well.
I agree I've saved a lot money. I've saved enough for warm clothes, a heater, a replacement bicycle and fruit shrubs and bark chippings for my garden. In 2025 the savings will just pile up. I don't have big expenses like pet food and vets bills and cars. However I need to save up for house maintenance That's always tricky
Karen, you are still doing a great job. I went OTT with my initial prepping 5 years ago. That said, I learned so much, saved money and helped educate others in the process. Supermarkets are pushing more and more quick meals, which is crazy. My freezer is full of home made soups, ,pastas curries and frozen veg from the garden. Keep up the goodwork.
In the U.S., so many people are living in temporary housing, motel rooms, hotel rooms, their cars, their vans, RV's, rooms in other people's homes, converted garden sheds and in tents, that there is no doubt a big demand for quick meals of every sort. Additionally, because people aren't eating out as much, they might more likely buy a nice "deli meal" to make up for it. Much of what I see in the instant meals is similar to restaurants, but at less cost. I think that the downward quality trend of drive-throughs makes work folks go instead to the grocery store to grab a big sub or salad instead. It takes up no more time.
1% is coming for our last dollar. If they stupidly get rid of everybody who's picking and processing our food taking care of our elderly. Watch the old poop hit the fan and fly back at everybody. Bunch of smoke and mirrors going on so that they can instigate us against each other. While they laugh and NAB our last dollars. I say keep your nose to the grindstone. Use all the elbow grease you can. Stick close to those that are worth sticking close to. And everything will work out fine as it has since the beginning of time ❤❤❤
Making ground pork n beef. Scratch pastry. Mixing 🥕 s ginger, few eggs, to meat. Happily. Oh my goodness one weiner wants to complain about a shop video. I've been losing it and not seeing the wall flowers shopping. I live in Florida in the United States of america. I do the math of your money conversion to ours. I love the shops. I love the Hauls. I get ideas from you, Mary Ann's and a few others but mostly the two of you. Different ideas from your country. As well as help 😃 I love seeing the food there. My son gets off on seeing the food in China and Japan. My uncle that passed away last year and my aunt. My uncle from Italy. Traveled the world. Definitely loveed food of the world. And groceries of the world. We talked about that on a regular. Weather, food, groceries and prices around the world. Also changing diets as he aged and I aged. Me from the age of 9 to 64 and him from his late twenties to 86 when he passed away. Weather in food if somebody doesn't like it you know there's a lot of other places they can go. Why Karen why? Because you like to and we like to see it and it's pretty cool. Hope you don't ever stop showing your Hauls🎉😊😊😊
You have been an inspiration to me, Karen. You showed us how you do things, adopted some ideas along the way to better your life, and you have done it bravely and candidly. Where you are now in your health journey is particularly inspiring.❤
Oh, my goodness! I watch your shops and a few others, and I compare notes with people from all over the world who do the same, looking at each others' countries. This American has talked to so many from America and other countries meeting here in your comment section! I have seen us through so many personal, financial, weather, illness, all sorts of problems with having extra onhand. NOW, I am ahead of rising prices and preparing for shortages, which we have had already.
That is exactly why I started this and started recording it. Having extra on hand, counting the pennies and preparing. It makes a huge difference in the long run x
I've been buying markdown meat and other markdown food and non-food items for many years having a stocked up pantry is a big help. I'm able to choose what I want to buy and at what price I'm willing to pay
Well people don't have to watch! There's always someone who moans. I do blame you for craving porky pies now though.😂😂 I might have one for lunch tomorrow. I've got a massive pumpkin I grew on allotment I forgot about. Cauldron of pumpkin soup it is then!
Love the vulnerability you share. Tips and trick of how to save are always a blessing

I’ve also tried new things and like them like roasted carrots
I love roasted vegetables, and the air fryer works wonderfully for that.
