    It's so easy to forget that Jacob is colourblind when he busts out works that, even as he says he's not confident, are amazingly executed. Jacob is overcoming a bigger hurdle than most visually capable artists, and rocking it.

    • @elvinfp
      @elvinfp Рік тому +109

      Omg, I always forget that Jacob is red-green colorblind! Judging by his art, the colorblindness seems not to hold him back at all, but I do wonder now about his mental process for color picking and how he feels about his color choices, if he second-guesses himself a lot or not. He's talked a bit about it before, but I swear, even then, it's hard to believe that Jacob isn't working with the same visual palette as the rest of the crew.

    • @MercurialJester
      @MercurialJester Рік тому +79

      @@elvinfp As I said, it's super easy to forget simply because Jacob's just a talented dude, and just gets the job done. I think in the episode where they drew in shades of red, he talked about it, and it's mostly knowing where the colours are on the wheel, and then playing with values if needing a particular tone. But since it's such second nature to him now, we barely blink as there's no hint that he's working with a reduced palette at all. The average person stumbling over a Jacob art would never know, and I think that's really cool.

    So, about at the 9:35 mark, Julia says "It's hard to work on something you don't have a lot of confidence in" and, I literally just today finished a big project for my PhD that I struggled with so much and did a lot of procrastinating on, and just that phrase (and Jacob's follow up about knowing you'll probably mess up at some point) oddly hit so hard. In a comforting way.
    This is just a very long way to say how I have now found a phrase/logical thinking pathway that will probably help me a lot when I'm struggling with work.

      I guess my best tip is to just draw bodies without expecting a masterpiece and following the motto of "kill your art"... I'm by no means the greatest anatomy artist, but im slowly improving. And i gotta tell you, drawing shitty drawings is the best way to do so. Sometimes even try and experiment with trying to draw somebody with your left hand or right hand, with your eyes closed, without looking at the paper.... Just to draw for fun and also study people that are more experienced in what you wanna improve...
      Hope it helps, and we are all taking it one step at the time and doing hard things we are kinda scared (for me, its also backgrounds)

I am really happy with your decision to give entire episodes to one person, because I feel like it gives you more time to explore a single thing in detail without the pressure to not take away time from others. I think this shouldn't be the standard for all videos, but the frequence of those videos you have right now is nice. It is always great to see you guys challanging yourselfe to improve and doing 7 images in one video allowed you to explore the topic from many different angles.
