To say that AJA is the best drummer in Malaysia....is an overstatement...he is...indeed....one of the best drummers in Msia....Anyway, there are many other very good drummers who are also top sessionists......there among the best....i.e. Sotong, John Thomas, Gary Gideon, Arthur Kam, the late Lewis Pragasam, Ujang...Zahid Ahmad and many more.....
For me, one of the best in Malaysia..but to pick the best in Malaysia, it is not easy..we have Gary Gideon, Tom, Zahid Ahmad, Arthur Kam and too many.....😅

Me and my friends used to jamming at his house in Kuching once. It was 20 years ago.After a couple hours, He shows his drumming to us.. it was Wow.. and his father told us story that Azim decided to stop going to school to focus on his music. And he just drop out from school since he was 14 if im not mistaken. and focus on music. and his father support his decision. And told him that, if you want to stop going to school and play music. You have to play music seriously.. and see where he stands now 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Salute

Been there listening to them, jammin sikit² and his father (pak mong) really love to teach especially music theory. Im not sure if we ever bump into each other in kuching. For me, its Ujang. Even M Nasir also when he was asked who the best drummer, he said Ujang. Why? One of the reason is the sound produced when recording is top notch. Each beat is consistent and accurate interm of sound, frequency and tempo. Some drummer when they hit the snare the frequency and sound is not consistent. Sometimes hard sometimes harsh sometimes slow.

Since then saya follow dia. Bakri ni semua boleh main. Jazz,rock,metal. Paling best dulu masa tgk dia dengan Koffin Kanser, Republic of Brickfields, Flop Poppy... bile tengok Bakri teringat dekat Josh Freese. Cuma yg saya suka Bakri, dia very humble n underrated. Dia punya drum fills pon kadang2 nampak simple,tapi sgt2 susah. Respect at Bakri n all local drummer ✊
