I'm a truck driver.Years ago,I picked up a load of 40,000 lbs of copper ingots at the port of Baltimore. It pleased me a great deal to bring them to this factory,to know what they would be made into.
@@cattnipp Are you suggesting that they don't get copper in those quantities? I've been driving 25 years. Hauled lots of different things over the years. That one was a little more meaningful.
I learned more in the last 18 minutes than I ever would have guessed. I feel so much more informed. Great to see a family company take so much pride in their work and products! Thanks!
I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am that Emily Zildjian is learning the business from the ground up ... on the factory floor. That grounding in understanding the specifics of the processes needed to make great instruments, and the demands placed on the workers to facilitate those processes will serve her well when she takes the reigns in hand. Much respect to her.
I met Emilys husband at a bar in Boston. He could be the twin brother of Zack Galifianakis. I know this because I met him and asked him if he was infact Zack, he chuckled and said no. I noticed his jacket which had the Zildjian symbol and asked if he played the drums, I do play and have always used Zildjian and he says nope, I am married to an heir of The Zildjian family. Now chuckle I did, but after watching this and learning they started in Quincy and are still in Ma, I think he is genuine!!!
I own a 1980s classic Ludwig Blue Oyster Pearl drum set. I been playing Ludwig drums and playing Zildjian cymbals since 1960. I will play both Ludwig and Zildjian the rest of my life.
Loving it! Go Girls!!!! I love your cymbals. I have a bout 8 K's so much fun. Been playing Zildjian 32+ years. Thanks to your grandfather, Father and you girls.
It's an amazing thing, not many companies can say, "We are soon coming up on are 400th Anniversary! That's an accomplishment! Love the history in this company, I'm sure they are very humbled and honored to serve the need of what they create!
Great cymbals, it's totally true that they get better with time. I also love Sabian and Paiste, they're all great companies. There is no competition between them, it's just the preference of sound
Excellent documentary.. WOW Very knowledgeable ladies.. One can "see" the pride and commitment listening to these ladies' walk us through their production line.. Kudos
What a beautiful story! My favorite cymbals and I never imagined I would live so close to one of the Zildjian factories and have not yet toured it! Will do it this year!
I can remember when I was a little kid that Zildjian was the best back then and now today they still are. Beautiful sound and the best looking . Of course just my opinion and many others too.
I have playing drums since I was four yrs old I would NEVER use any other cymbal period ! I was there in 1978 bought your seconds because that was all I could afford at time they were still great! I grew up in Sherborn Ma.
I remember going to the Norwell building as a kid. My mothers ex husband had worked there for years. I got the whole walk around. Saw the entire place. I played on a set of drums that who knows what big name drummers played. Was great.
My dad played Zildjian so I play Zildjian. Great video. I grew up 15 miles away and never went to the factory. I can't believe I let that opportunity slip by!
I love your cymbals so much!! When I was a teenager I could never afford them and I wanted them so badly!! Now as an adult I have a few and consider them a real blessing! It would sure be nice to have more!! Love them!!
I grew up playing Zildjian. I know no other no other symbol that brings me pure joy to play. Zildjian is the only sound I want to hear on a drum set. it’s clean. It’s exciting it’s crisp. It’s true and it is music to my ears.
All I've ever played is your cymbals. Love them. Best sound and notes for what I want to accomplish when playing. Congratulations to your workers and team!
I remember my first set of new Zildjians in the early 80's. A 20" K Custom ride, 18" Medium crash, & 15" Quick Beat Hi-Hats. Great company, great cymbals!
That's really a very lovely photo at 4:20 I met Armand in 1994, what an honour that was, he was genuinely a brilliant person. An amazing legacy not only in cymbal making but in invention and also in shaping the terms we now commonly use to describe types of cymbals. What a history! I tell my students that Zildjian have been around since 1623 and they literally cannot believe it!! I will never love any other cymbal more than my Zildjian K series set I have collected since the 1980s.
6 piece black Tama kit with Zildjians ONLY...bought 35 years ago, handed it down to my daughter (who also plays) & to the grandkids now. Having a BACK injury doesn’t help with ‘future’ playing BUT it NEVER leaves the blood!
I got a box of A Customs for Christmas this year, and it makes one wonder, do they sound as beautiful as they look or do they look as beautiful as they sound? Answer: YES. I also have an 18” Platinum Coated Rock Crash and 6” K Custom Hybrid Splash. That, ladies and gentlemen, is a heavenly combo!!!!!!! So my setup is: 6” Splash (K Custom Hybrid) 14” Hi Hats 16” Crash 18” Crash 18” Crash (Platinum) 20” Medium Ride God bless the people at Zildjian!!!!! I got my dream cymbal setup, and I’m not even a sponsored artist!!!!!!!!
I remember walking by the old Zildjian factory when they were located in Wollaston (Quincy, Ma.), and you would hear them tapping on their cymbals day in and day out. A very light sound like they were delicately tone testing them.
Zildjian is life! Best cymbals, best sound an best quality on the world! Thanks for great, sweet and deep sound! God bless you and your business! Best regards from Georgia!
I loved the days when Zildjian was the undisputed champion of cymbals. Even though I've always been a Paiste player, I've always had great respect and admiration for Zildjian. I've owned many over the years as well. Today there are a gazillion of small manufacturers and they seem to be copies of one another. Zildjian/Sabian will always be the original. You one one of those, you have a piece of history.
That's funny, because the way they explained how they got the secret knowledge at 6:34 in the video, you can decipher that what actually happened was that the father was threatened by the two women to give up the recipe or become "one with the symbols" if you get what they mean.
I have done so many compare/contrasts between Zildjian and Sabian, and Zildjian comes out on top every time! They look more beautiful to me, plus, I personally think Zildjian sounds better, Yes, Zildjian may be more expensive, but you do get a quality instrument. Every cymbal on my kit is a Zildjian, and I am very satisfied with their product!

Love my vintage A Zildjian Medium Ride. It’s at least 30 years old now, and I’ll never remove the fabulous patina. It makes it sound so sweet, but I can always dig into it for an edgy note. Keep it going, ladies! I have to say my favorite Zildjian sound is the K custom crash. It’s sound is so deep and complex.
After a trip to Turkey I decided to buy as few Turkish products as possible. However I preferred to buy Zildjians, and struggled with my conflict of interest. From this video I learned that the Zildjian family is Armenian, and that the factory is now in The USA. I'm so happy - I can now buy their products with a clear concience.
Would You consider making your 80's era Platinum cymbals again ? They were beautiful and sounded great. I believe if you reissued them they would do well in sales.
The coddled, well-heeled and sophisticated daughters told a wonderful and interesting account about the history of the Zildjian cymbal and the corporate warehouse and factory. I'd like to take a tour of the factory and also visit the showroom.
beginning in istanbul centuries ago, that your cymbal production has still been kept is really proud. There is written a mark as "zildjian konstantinople" on some cymbals. it's so important to remember your own roots where you came from..
I don't see how anyone that has used Zildjian can use anything else...really. I've used all the others and nothing compares to these...they are hands down the best in the world
Zildjian is my home when it comes to choosing cymbals. I have been playing them for twenty years and I have never found a cymbal that I just did not like. I started with the ZXT line (showing my age) and started to really get into investing in some professional level cymbals, or as one of my college percussion teachers would call “grown up” cymbals, in cymbals from the A Series, A Custom and K Custom lines.
I been playing the drums since 1960. I only use Zildjian cymbals for that period. I love the the sound of Zildjian and will not use any other cymbals. I love these cymbals.
Zildjian, Bosphorus, İstanbul Agop-Mehmet etc.. all of this brands from the Istanbul, Turkey. Cymbals is a tradition from the Ottoman soldiers band. And the Zildjian family is the one of only person can made the cymbals in Istanbul, Ottoman. The sultans gave him an oppurtunities for made and promote the goods in the europe. After that cymbals became popular around the world. Mozart, Rolling Stones, Mettalica and some of the important faces of the music history, they all used the cymbals. It is a long and good story of the music history. In Turkey we are really proud of this family and brands.
I worked in a steel mill for years as am industrial mechanic on almost identical eqipmemt. As a drummer as well this would be up there on my list of places to work.
It’s crazy to think that a musical instrument company, let alone a cymbal company, has been around for 4 centuries!!!!!!! 400 years!!!!! 401, technically, but I digress!!!! In all seriousness though, Zildjian has always been my favorite cymbal company, and it’s the cymbal that I grew up with!!! I use the A Custom line myself, as well as a platinum-coated crash, a K Custom Hybrid Splash, and a standard 16-inch A Crash!!!! And I think that’s the perfect combination, at least for me!!!!
The absolute best cymbals on earth. I would never play any other !!!!! Beautiful presentation ! Very informative thank you. I'm currently saving for a new 24 inch ride. It's worth the wait. I just hate waiting so long to save up for it !!! Hahaha. 👍
I am from India, see this name Zildjian wherever a cymbal is present; I always believed it must be from Turkey, especially after listening to Beethoven's Turkish march.
I think it can be true that they made cymbal since 1600. Armani peopel were craftsman in middle East they had very high skills or maybe secret formula for making important means like troop gun and .... I think their cymbals had military usage. ( for that kind of music) Its evident that they only transfered their skills to their family.
Any one drummer can say This company is better than that company. It's about taste and the ear. I've played a couple of kits that had mixes of cymbals of all brands. My Hi-hat crashes and rides are Zildjian, splashes are Debian and one Meihl. Can't wait to upgrade
Zildjian cymbals are awesome! Just bought a set of K Custom Darks and I love them! One nit: the SKU stickers you use are crap and cleaning adhesive off off brand new cymbals is a particularly nasty kind of buyer's remorse! I know other manufacturers use zero residue SKU stickers. This is the way to go!
I’ve not been much of a zildjian user (Sabian 😮) but decided to get a couple to change things up and have an A custom 18” and I have to say it has become my favorite lower cymbal. I like what sounds good like guitars. Things are preferable but not restricted. That’s just making it possible to miss something great
I’ve always had Paiste 602 Formula cymbals and I remeber that when testig Zildjian nearly 50 yrs ago, it sounded too dark to me. I have to go testing some new ones and perhaps I feel completely different now. It was a surprise that Zildjian is that an old make.

I play Zildjian and Sabians, but Zildjian's were my first love in 1966.
Cool video. I was getting a chubby seeing all those Zildjian's! I'm a big fan. 6 of my 7 cymbals are Zildjian's.
You got that right, zildjian are the best in the world, period!
Thank you for being true to your craft. This video was done very well.
This is fascinating. Thank you.
Thank you Zil
Thanks for the tour...
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
5 most beautiful ladies who will carry on the tradition and quality name they carry!
( for that kind of music)
Its evident that they only transfered their skills to their family.
At the end I’m surprised they didn’t include “world peace!”
That’s just making it possible to miss something great
Absolutely fascinating!
The only cymbals I will ever play!! Zildjian for life!!😎
I’ve always had Paiste 602 Formula cymbals and I remeber that when testig Zildjian nearly 50 yrs ago, it sounded too dark to me. I have to go testing some new ones and perhaps I feel completely different now. It was a surprise that Zildjian is that an old make.
I named my son Zildjian bcoz I really like the cymbal..
