I shall add my thoughts of him to yours. Walking through Birkenau in 2001 was a devastating experience. I met one survivor and embraced him in genuine empathy. Knowing that the unthinkable was doable for those who perpetrated these crimes, that many even laughed while doing it, is monstrous to contemplate. My own feeling is that after the Holocaust, to be human you have to in your mind be partly Jewish. An apology to all those who suffered, and especially to those whose lives were snuffed out in the cruelest of ways. L'Chaim, my not-yet- known friend. May Israel; live forever, and in peace at last.

Every time I listen to this I am in tears. I am a man and men are not supposed to cry. It's so hard to reconcile my German heritage, because of what my country did in the 2WW! Such horrible behaviour towards a great many innocent people! So sad and tragic, may such a thing never happen to humanity again, but now, we have the same thing happening in Ukraine! Mein Gott! Was ist los mit leute?

@Sarah Martin But it wasn't the German people who committed these hideous crimes, it was a relatively small amount of people who happened to be German. I had 2 German aunts (both dead now) who always told me that Hitler was hated by a lot of the German people and they told me of one event when German soldiers were inspecting houses and that because one family did not have a photograph of Hitler on display, the entire family were taken outside and shot.

I want to share something with all of you that holds dear to me and my family. It's about my grandfather and his two best friends who went off to war. My grandfather served in Vietnam with his two best friends Rigo and Carlos. My grandfather didn't have any brothers but he looked at Rigo and Carlos as his own brothers. Not knowing English they were from a poor town in Puerto Rico. They grew up since they were 9 and would play outdoors daily, helping elders with their needs, from what my father told me. He mentioned they were always together. My dad was told by my grandfather before he left for Vietnam that he's going with Rigo y Carlos and to not worry cause they will all be back home together soon. When the war was over my grandfather came home by himself alone. My grandfather never talked about the actions that took place. He was hated called a baby killer, a rapist, a murderer. Years have gone by he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's' and had to stay in a nursing home. When I and my twin brother visit him opening the door, he's just staring out the window. We would pull up by his side and greet him and kiss his cheek and He would just tear up sobbing saying "Rigo y Carlos estás aquí, ¿cómo estás aquí? ( Rigo and Carlos your here how are you here ) He doesn't remember me and my brother so we just pretend we are Rigo and Carlos. in 2020 May he had passed away and when we went to his home to clean up we had found an old journal he had shared writing with Rigo and Carlos of what happened during in Vietnam. They took turns writing and 22 pages after Rigo wasn't writing anymore and Carlos stopped writing after page 37. My grandfather continued to write but his handwriting wasn't clear and the pages were wet from raindrops or tears and there was soo much pain through the whole journal. There wasn't anymore writing but blank pages. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Yes, hauntingly beautiful! I was just listening to an early recording of Mendelssohn's violin concerto by the young Yehudi Menuhin, recorded in 1938 (conducted by his teacher the great George Enescu) and it struck me that Williams' theme feels a bit like a minor-key reworking of the main theme from Mendelssohn's first movement. Both of these tunes could be said to express hope and memory, but in different ways and different times. (Menuhin here: ua-cam.com/video/eXaJ-3-ZesA/v-deo.html )

Looking at the granite inscriptions with the names of some of my ancestors at the Jewish Memorial in Paris, I can only imagine the horror of the holocaust, and this music brings it to the present. Justice may have not been served decades post to the Holocaust, but the memory of its horrid cruelty is a lesson, which of its own, serves enough justice in preventing it from ever happening again. To the nearly 80 million who died in this global conflict, may we never fight again, and cause another barbaric slaughter against our own species. 🤝❤🌏

I saw the movie and have listened to the theme song before too, but I feel their effect never leaves you. As I listened to this extended theme song, and read the comments here, the tears were just slowly rolling down my face. I remember when I went to the movie, you could have heard a pin drop -- there was just such a hushed silence all throughout the theatre. And even when it was over, we all just sat there for a few minutes, silent, before we managed to get up to leave. We've probably all seen what the ravages of war have done, but being in the theatre with such a large screen, it was just so shocking, and held everyone, mesmerized, by the horror of it all. It struck a chord with all of us then, and I think every time I hear the theme song again, it brings it all back. I remember when the movie first started, I wondered why it was in black and white -- and the only colour in the whole movie was the little girl's red coat (I think it was her coat), and throughout the movie she would appear somewhere in it, but never spoke. Yes, this extended theme song is as one person here described it: hauntingly beautiful; and yes, I agree where the violin is played at such a high octave, it sounds like it's crying -- and we are too -- the music is very powerful. Maybe we should all play this every once in a while so we never forget what we've heard or seen. We should never forget it. But unfortunately ALL of humanity doesn't seem to learn the lessons it should, because it seems in some part of the world, there is still war. It is really heartbreaking to know that the lessons may never be learned by all of us.

I visited the Factory and Auschwitz and it was horrible. I will never forget this visit.
I can't even describe what i felt there. I learned a lot of things i didn't know before and to walk through the small streets in Auschwitz and realize that thousands of people had to walk there everyday, or to go through the "work sets you free" gate and never walk out of the death camp again...
I was in the room which was filled with shoes of prisoners, the room full of hair of people who died, and more.
The things that happened there are just cruel. That word doesn't even describe it.
I can just recommend you the visit. People should never forget about this time.
