    When I was in 2nd grade, I studied in a American school overseas due to my dad's work, I got to meet many friends from different countries, and my best friend was from North Korea. Maaaan how do I tell you this but her and her family were the sweetest, I stayed over her house for weeks and her family treated me like their daughter and always complimented me. Our parents became friends and I always called her Kim because i wouldn't remember her name so I just called her by her family name (if only she knows how many Korean idols names i can rememeber now lol) she was a huge fan of Kpop and we always spoke about 2NE1 and BIGBANG. We stayed friends until 6th grade, and that's when she told me that she has to go back to North Korea and I was really sad at that time because I didn't know what to do I wanted her to stay more. Idk why I just felt like talking about her.
    The thing I regret the most now is how I never thought about asking for her email since I was young, I don't even know how to contact her.
    I'm in 11th grade now and I always think about her, like how is she now?

    In this small material you gave me a lot of information about korea country and history. Thank you very much. 감사합니다. Now I know more about the history of Korea. You're best ambassador and my teacher. You always know what important the Korean news, and songs is the best.You always know what I watch.Sometimes I'm angry that I was not born in your country, because in my heart I really feel that I should live in a country that has the most beautiful language of the world. You are my best teacher

      Germany is precisely what the DPRK does not want, as Germany was no "reunification" at all. What actually happened was that East Germany collapsed, and West Germany annexed it.

    You made this some months ago but I'd just like to say I admire you very much for touching upon this subject, as for many reasons many people are afraid to even bring up the current situation with the two Koreas even nowadays and many others are even kept ignorant of it, as you pointed out. Thanks very much for talking with us about it while still keeping the fun humour of KWOW :)

    Well in North Korean you can get drunk too, every day. Haha. My tour guides became more than just my guides, I actually got a close bond and we became friends. Yeh, it sucks that we cannot hear from each other directly :/
    I could however forward a message to the company I went with, and they could deliver that to them personally as they go into the DPRK more often.
    But politics aside, if you can go to North Korea, do it! It's an awesome country with awesome people. It is a great experience to get a better understanding from THEIR point of view. You don't have to agree with it though, but at least understand their part as well for once. And hey, it's the safest country I've ever been to :D
    I would love to go back any day. I am not that anti-North as many others are. But remember, politics aside about my review.

    • @SaintCharlos
      @SaintCharlos 9 років тому +2

      +xTheLemon I'm too not very anti-North, and I love it's culture, but I don't like it's government. I want to travel there in the future but I don't have the courage.

    • @xTheLemon
      @xTheLemon 9 років тому +4

      Do it while it's still "mysterious". The country is opening up more and more :)
      You have to go with a tour company in order to visit, but for the DPRK it's totally cool.
      Nothing bad will happen unless you really want it bad. (Tear visa on arrival, insult the leaders or country in the harshest way, bring religous books).
      It's kinda.. you're a guest in a foreign country. Just like you shouldn't be praising christianity in an Islamic country or praise the Islam in Vatican. Just use common sense and you're cool :)

      The younger the South Korean, generally, the less of an issue it is for them. They see the same DPRK we all see, and , even to them, it is a totally alien way of life. They barely even speak the same language anymore.

    Let's assume that the two Koreas united (presumably under Seoul, as it is not feasibly possible for North Korea to take control of, let alone maintain control of the South Korean government). The first challenge would be to quell any resistance from North Korea, including the remnants of the DPRK military, the fourth largest in the world. Although any resistance would be severely handicapped with the central government no longer in power, it is believed that the country has the capability to arm and mobilize 8 million citizens for military duty at a moment's notice. The second challenge would be to deal with the millions of starving refugees who would inevitably cross the former border into South Korea, which I do not believe the government is adequately prepared for. Even if the population remains static, billions of dollars worth of aid will need to be allocated to ensure the survival of 30% of the new country's population, a massive strain on the economy. The third, and in my opinion, most difficult challenge will be to not provoke China or the US to take any drastic actions in response to the unification. China has stated that it would be willing to support a united Korea under the South, if they sever all ties with the US and maintain a non-hostile disposition to China. China will not tolerate US or US allied forces amassing on its border, and I have no doubt the US would take advantage of an opportunity to pressure China by moving its forces from the 38th parallel to the Manchurian border. Even if the new Korea decides to sever ties with the US in an effort to avoid provoking China, it is unclear how the US will react to this. Also, it is unclear how Japan will react to the unification, as well as the possible cutting of ties to the US (and by extension, Japan). It is entirely possible that divisive issues between the two countries would be brought to the forefront without the unifying force of a common North Korean threat or membership in the US alliance. Even worse, Japan may feel threatened by a unified Korea, and take action (though this is less likely). In conclusion, I'm not saying that a successful unification isn't possible, but if unification does occur in the near future, serious work will need to be done on a scale rivaling that of the reunification of Germany.

I heard that the first fast food restaurant in Pyongyang was opened by Singapore and how North Korea imports fuel from Singapore. I highly doubt both Koreas will ever Reunite. NEVER EVER. Unless, the North agrees to change their political system. (which I highly doubt will happen) and the only way for that to happen is by revolution. North Koreans have been heavily brainwashed by propaganda for such a long time it is impossible to start an uprising because the people think their lives are normal. They never know what true freedom is because they've never been exposed to the rest of the world. How would they know when they're being blinded by their government?. Then again, even if it's a success the South needs to agree and open their border which I don't think they will . It's a suicide for South Koreans.

I hope the two Korea's can merge on day and become one again! I think if it were to happen though there could be a lot of problems, like many people having opposing views and starting riots and such! I do wish for the merging of the two Korean countries, some day, because (like you said) there are relatives kept in isolation from those in the adjacent country and I am sure their are cultural benefits, as well...
    Though, the consequences resulting from difference in an economical, political and cultural standing point, will unfortunately and enviably effect increase discrimination, conflict, crime rates, etc. :(
    (btw, can you talk about dating in terms of celebration days, e.g. 100th day)

    Can you teach us some verb and how to use them. Cause we only know vocab, but not how to write a proper sentence.

    So that's the story ! Did anyone here watched King to hearts with Lee Seungi ??? That picture at 2:44 is the place they got married right ? If the North is that strict then I give huge amount of props to whoever recreated the area for the movie . Like seriously. It looks exactly the same !

    United Korea is really a very nice idea, like in Joseon dinasty where in korea is viewed as one... I really love this colorful dynasty ... but it seems like history seems to repeat it self... I'm so interested in Korean history and I found out that such attempt to unite Korea always lead to a war of politics and idealism.

    I agree :O I also think there will be really bad inflation too, which is shame since South Korea's economy is doing so well right now!
