Just wanna let you know that international airliners rwy 20 bata land garna mildaina, they can only land on 02. However domestics can land on both 02 and 20.
Not every structure around an airport can be regulated as there are many constrains exist such as private land acquisition, geo-graphical constrain such as the terrain (e.g., mountains, bodies of water) makes it difficult to expand runway end safety area. And only limited areas are considered to be within the Runway safety area which must be kept clear of all mobile or non mobile object ("obstacle" on aviation terms) which is just 300m from the end of the Runway on the both ends per Regulator, however the heights of the buildings and other structure are regulated around the airport for over flying scenarios. Thus in these kind of situations, the planes are expected to be stopped within the Runway safety area by aircraft design and operation controls to avoid fatalities.
Good thing that no international aircraft has ever fully overshot the runway towards 20 it would be a bigger disaster than we can imagine. And then we have people who say Kathmandu doesn't need an alternative airport and upgrading it will be just fine. Clearly, most people fail to realize where this airport sits and how risky it is.
@@sjn_ indeed what I think would be best is converting every existing international airports in Nepal to domestic airpor and make one big airport in terai region with parallel runways and airport big enough to accommodate a380s and fast track connecting it to major cities.
I don't completely agree with the observation for Koteshwor side of the runway. If it's an emergency and the plane has to do a skid landing the ATC will most likely know of this before hand and traffic can be co-ordinated/blocked/diverted to keep the part of the highway free for the incoming plane.
In an emergency situation do you think they can manage traffic 😂 Nepal’s runway is very short. In my last arrival to Nepal Qatar airways took entire length of runway to land with aid of reverse jet engine. I hope they make better long runway spend money on projects insted of buying luxary cars and nonsences
@@akergincelik8066 we wait for hours to let a good for nothing VIP sawari pass through. Are you telling me that we as a nation don't have the heart to do the same for an emergency situation like this? If nothing just a simple message stating that Koteshwor area is dangerous, and a flight might overshoot and land on the road with visible injury should be enough for people to stay the hell away if they value their life and limb.
@@akergincelik8066 Wrong. Tribhuwan's runway isnt very short. Its 3.3 km which is what average international airport runway lengths are. Big planes can stop very quickly if they need, but doesnt to avoid wear tear on brakes. And reverse thruster is standard procedure to stop everywhere, even on long runway.
Your water mark could be placed somewhere in the object (like runway or else in aircraft) placing those watermarks this way is quite bad to the viewers.

The plane wasn't showing down, so it was doomed. It would have hit something eventually and explode. Maybe the pilots were to go around so they speed up? We don't know. but the plane was too fast at the end of the runway and hit the barricade with the antennas.

One of the tragic event in aerospace history. There was no real purpose of that concrete wall except for structural support for antennas above it. The fact that the wall was so rugged and high was very awful considering the airport design and safety standard of an airport. Also it is thaught as there might been some human error as well as technical problems after the birdstrike. So, it may be too early to dive into conclusions before the final report is out. Nice try though.
This is not complete information. From Tribhuvan international airport to koteshwor side, there are huge block similar to korean airport had which has lights installed on them and there are plenty of them to destroy the plane completely and it can never reach to the koteshwor main road

The question that "how much velocity would it lose before meeting a barrier and would the passengers survive?" was still unanswered.

Nice video but this type of particular aircraft do not and cannot land to runway 2-0 i.e boudha side bata . It can only land from koteshwor side.
it can actually ,thai airways ko boeing 777 a much bigger airline than this have landed from runway 20 in kathmandu multiple times.
@Aviationnepal2 i was unknown about this, but for present time due to various factor I don't think this type of aircraft will land anymore .
