- So we got a call that a logger had two skidders, a shear and a dozer stuck, so we tried first with the dozer because it was closer... but ended up having to bring the Trackhoe in to get it out!
I see excavators in action all the time and I honestly can’t possibly grasp the power they have.

I've pulled a 50 ton dozer out that was buried to the point I had to dig to get to the ripper barrel. With a 45 ton excavator. Sure missed my 80 ton hoe that day.

As deep as this appears to be i don't think chains would have done any better. Chains need something to bite into and you can't really bite pudding.
Prolly double-up on the wheels....make it 4 wide front and back. And build up the road they were taking in/out....throw bunch of brush/logs down to drive over. That was pretty dang DEEP! hahaha

A single tire skidder should have never been in a wet place like that to start with. Bad decision on the driver and whoever told him to go there in the first place
Very dangerous it has no limb riders on the front
It’s only fun until the equipment you get stuck needs major equipment to get it unstuck.
This is why Semetrio always lays a shovel road and drags the timber Within Reach of the shovel Road otherwise you're going to bury a tiger cat. Or a skidder or a clamshell.

Was this complete operator error or would it of most probably ended up happening to a lot of the people who would go through the same place
Most likely unforeseen, the ground surface is like a 12” thick carpet and once you break through it, you find yourself in a UA-cam video swimming in 4’ of pudding. The cost of this recovery is thousands of 💸

why do these logger not run tire chains not only do they provide tire protection but they will go so much better in mud ice climbing over whatever ive been in logging business for a long time in vt never would run a skidder without chains they just wont perform as well
Canadian here and agree. Although in this setting I would say something like an eco track would work better.
