Twenty years ago I had a bookkeeping business, with many veterinary clinics and pet groomers as clients. I had been assured that pet hair, both dog and cat, would keep the birds, squirrels, groundhogs, etc., out of my veg garden. My clients saved me bags and bags of dog and cat hair to spread on my garden. Well, it did not take long until the hair disappeared. Throughout all the trees in my yard were squirrel and bird nests upholstered with the donations. They must not have read the pamphlet.
That is an honesty plant - also known as a money plant. When they go to seed, you can dry it out and then peel back the 'seed covers' to produce beautiful silver discs often used in dry flower arrangements. I leave my clover growing as the bees love the flowers.
How colourful your garden is💐 and your ‘curious blackbird’ is adorable . I thoroughly enjoyed your chats with Karen… look forward to more. Those giggles you have with those friends who understand 🥰 are priceless.
Same here, had one day last week, sunshine, rain, hail and then a rip roaring thunderstorm, awesome. Enjoyed the video and now off to listen to the chat, thanks for making the blinds, it's a great distraction 😊😊
I love birds. I have to admit when I saw new friend on the title, I thought you'd taken in a new 🐈 cat. You're garden is lovely. It get hot so quickly where I live, it's hard to sustain anything from the broiling sun.
I read sheep's wool around veg beds would keep slugs off. I live on a farm so plenty of wool. Put it around cabbage plants last year & worked a treat. No snail/slug trails across the wool.
Mmmm personal recommendations for the shade include Hellebores and Sweet Woodruff (May wine 🍷🍷) the Brunneras look sooo lovely!!! Oh yeah His name is Jack Aka Jack Blackbird!
I watched the video with you and Karen. I really enjoyed the laughs and joy you two have. Makes me think of my bestie and the laughs and mischief we get into. Your garden is my dream garden. It’s beautiful.
Loving your pretty garden, your cheeky blackbird reminds me of Blackie in my sister's garden. The Honesty is beautiful, I have it in my garden in NZ. 🇳🇿
A Cute Tip: It would be so so pretty to paint the outside of your she-shed as the same green as your greenhouse's doors to coordinate with one another.
Have enjoyed sunny unseasonably hot weather in Ontario this week, upwards of 27 degrees celsius. It’s helped the trees to bud and I’m finally seeing my hyacinths, tulips and narcissus blooming. Next week back to winter/ spring temps, I’m not prepared for that having been spoiled this week😊
Well you at least got rid of your snow with the high temps. Here in Nl it's forecasted for 2 degrees all this week. I still have about 2 ft snow on my garden yet.
Hi Catherine, Your tulips are looking truly spectacular! I got a lot of motivation watching this video today. I came back from a week away to find that none of my balcony plants got a sip of water, and that almost our entire city was without running water because of a water treatment plant incident that got worse because a power outage set them back again after it was fixed. There was no water in the reservoirs and we live on top of a hill, so we were among the last to get our water back to full capacity. So my plants had to wait...😭 They've finally had a good drink, but now I have to sort out the carnage of dead leaves etc in the coming days. Oddly though, some hyacinths ( loved the Hyacinth "Bouquet"/ Bucket references in the last video😂) that I forgot in their pots have started to peak through- It's the start of Autumn! Thanks for the video🌷
I also have a blackbird friend. He's been named Giorgio Armani, as I live in Italy it works! Wish my Bruneria (spelling??) looked as good as yours! Just love the progress in your yard. Happy spring!
I absolutely love your garden! 💙 Bart and Beatrice Blackbird! I had to give them names. It is a thing with me. You're looking fabulous as usual. Big hugs from me in, South Carolina. ✌💙😀🐦🐞
Hello again from the US!! I put on the chat with Karen while I was cooking yesterday and it was SO fun! We're a little behind you seasonally in Ohio but I started some flower and herb seeds inside in paper cups and they're going well. Thanks for the gardening kick in the bum. :) By last frost, they should be good to go out! But my most exciting thing is I ordered a bunch of succulent leaves from someone on etsy and am getting them to root!! On an unrelated topic, you really should treat yourself to an overlock machine. I've had my Singer for about 30 years and she still runs strong.
I watched your video with Karen, it was enjoyable. I saved you video too watch after I checked the news of the day, sometimes I see you've posted and just click on your video straight away other times I wait and save your video for a relaxing sort of palate cleanser after I read all the bad news out there. Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden and your new friend .
I’m with you Catherine I’m sure I’m solar powered I have zero energy when it’s grey and dull your garden is all ready looking pretty can’t wait to see it in full bloom x
Absolutely love your yard and gardens!! You inspired me today I bought plants and flowers and started filling my pots for my yard. Today in Texas we had beautiful weather at least in Cypress, Tx we did. We know all about 4 seasons in 1 day...lol Keep up the beautiful work. ❤
Hi dear Catherine.👋😊 Beautiful! As always Beautiful!!! 🌷🌷🌷🌼🌼🌼🍀🌸💮🏵️🌿🌱🌱🌱🌳🎶 I really admire how you manage everything, you are still full of energy🤗 That's good. THANK YOU for sharing these moments with us. Thrushs : Bonie and Klyde 😉 I wish you all the best, a smile and always a lot of positive energy. With love Maťa from Slovakia 🇸🇰👋😊☘️🐞🦗🐝🦋💚💗
Harden off your cosmos by putting your trays outside for a few hours each day increasing the time till you leave them out all day and night in their trays before planting them to off. Do the same with the sweet peas and zinnias the week before before planting them too. X
Birds are lovely little company. You have so many in your garden oasis. I told you last summer about my nesting robins in my ivy covered stump in the garden. Well, over the winter that three meter high stump had to be cut down as it’s really rotten. I was feeling a bit bad for the robins but this week a huge woodpecker dropped in and was powering away at what remains of that rotten stump and having a big breakfast of grubs. Delightful! Your garden is looking lovely. Tulips are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us, your videos are so cheerful and grounded. Have a great week!
@@DaintyDiaries yes, I can imagine. I do keep an eye on the ones in my garden when they start marauding & attempting to mug other plants I dig as much out as I can! (They fill a gap for me 🤣🤣). Your garden is lovely - I too dislike begonias!! … followed by bizzy lizzy’s. 😂😂

What’s the plan for 2024? Continue with the raised beds with single beautiful flower types or extend the cottage garden vibe? Either way is lovely.
