I love Elvis Costello. This song spoke to my heart. I love Jon Batiste. I love it when he sprinkles his fingers on the ivories and makes magic, and that smile. That smile makes me smile.
I became fascinated by Elvis in 1979 when a video of him singing "Allison", was part of a history of rock show on network tv. Bought all his early albums and knew every word I could decipher. As much as anything he made me want to get out of Oklahoma and hear the outside world.
Elvis is music. He writes the songs. He plays all the instruments except maybe horns. He gets mostly bent notes on them, but he's not Paul McCartney. So.
Ever since the first time I heard EC sing live on Conan when he performed ‘All This Useless Beauty’ back in the mid-‘90s, his voice has always given me goose bumps. There are so few singers and performers who have that ability, for me. Most of the time when he sings live, it’s indistinguishable from the album, which is an incredibly difficult task. He is just the ultimate showman, the musician’s musician, so professional and incredibly hard-working.
never lost my love for elvis, whether at his peak or laying low in the shadows of current popularity, he always left his humanity out there (and his clown, and his genius) love it!
thank you so much Stephen for sharing Jon B. with us all....especially these clips from your show. I have been checking out all of Jon's music for the last year, and please tell him for me, an old, broken senior woman, he has brought much joy into my lonely life...love ...
He seems a strong, but gentle spirit. He definitely shines bright from somewhere inside there deeper than the smile on the outside that dazzles too. He's got this humility. I don't know. What is it? Some shine?
That knowing head nod at the end. He f***in' KNOWS he's killing it!!! I just love this man: the single greatest singer-songwriter of the 20th century. Dylan, Springsteen, Lennon/McCartney, Davies, Simon ... they get nice parting gifts, but (The Real) Elvis is king.
Good to read somebody else saying this, as I agree. A friend came round a couple of weeks ago (who' s a huge Dylan fan) and we were playing records. He said 'you'd seriously put Costello above Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, John Lennon?' And I said 'you know what? I would. Seriously'.
Been listening and loving EC many years now But I NEVER thought he could hit a note like that near the end of this version! Espescially now Guy's still got it
Elvis can still write ‘em. Jon Batiste can really tinkle those ivory keys. The two of you sound great together. I hope you do more together. It really sounds great!!!
Love Elvis C and love this song
It’s been 42 years since I first heard it. Still resonates. Still powerful. Awesome to see Elvis Costello still has it.

Two total pros!
Um, which is not quite to say that Elvis is on his way to the Met, but... 😎
Love hearing that Jazzmaster guitar again.
Sei il migliore Elvis Costello... Bellissimo 🍀

Elvis is King~!
In the top 5 of my favourite Costello songs. Beautiful to hear it broken down this way!
Mr. Costello. You play that guitar. My goodness. You are one soulful guy. And Jon he's able to tickle the ivory with the best of them.

A remote broadcasting achievement! Decent sound!!!
Aretha's picture in the back is a nice, humbling touch.
I agree, although I'm itching to straighten it.

Hey sister, we may be old, broken senior women, but we still keep on keeping on. Much love, peace and joy to you.
El, still sings as great as he did in 1978 , Amazing!!!!! He hasn't lost a step.
I want to be as cool as Elvis Costello when I grow up...
AHHHH! First Costello song I ever heard at my gfs house in 1997.🖤🖤🖤Kinda shocked that Elvis still sounds so fucking fantastic.
Fuck yeah! Elvis is King! : )
What a perfect performance
Just GORGEOUS
Elvis & John, fucking wow! Brings tears to my eyes. For every good reason.
How great is this. A voice that just gets better with each day on earth. Damn groovy guitar and sweet piano atop. Psychic tension perfect.

I've been listening with awe to Elvis since the first single...and he does have a habit of doing really well with great pianists, doesn't he?
Yes, he does...
What a treat to see you Elvis! Loved this collab.
Been listening and loving EC many years now
But I NEVER thought he could hit a note like that near the end of this version!
Espescially now
Guy's still got it

Nice to hear Elvis C. Again. 🤗
Superb - new album’s brilliant as well.

John does an exceptional job, especially since Elvis took some poetic license from the original song. Fantastic performance.

Always great Elvis even after all these tears and years. And Jon Batisite is the icing on the cake, oh the way he plays those ivories......
Magnificent, thank you so much Elvis and Jon.☮️🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️🎶
The algorithm popped this into my feed again after two years. I still think it's an astoundingly well written song and a well raw version of it.
Man, that was great- always loved that song
This is from Armed Forces. Great album.
£200 for the new box set is rather eye-watering, though (£250 if you prefer coloured vinyl).
Elvis can still write ‘em. Jon Batiste can really tinkle those ivory keys. The two of you sound great together. I hope you do more together. It really sounds great!!!
Absolutely fell in love with this song the first time I heard it so long ago.
