"This practice session was recorded during the Summer of '93. The original tapebox still has the sales sticker attached, showing that it was bought for the sum of $9.95 at American Music in Seattle, July 15, 1993. The title, "E. Coli," which is hand-written on the box, is thought to be a reference to an outbreak of E. coli at Jack In The Box restaurants earlier that year."

This really is a testament to Novoselic's ability to lay down an absolutely hypnotic bassline that sets the mood for the rest of the band.

The Day Kurt Purchased the Tape that this song was recorded On (July 15, 1993) is the same day Nirvana did that photo shoot where they were all wearing those women dresses and sweaters and they were standing in front of a Hostess Factory on Dexter Avenue N. & Republican Street, Seattle, WA... (I think one of the photos from that Photo Shoot from July 15, 1993 was used for the cover of the Nirvana Bootleg "Dressed For Success") so I guess Kurt purchased this Tape before or After that Photoshoot...
And If this was recorded In Summer of '93 and was after July 15th as the Tape it was recorded on was purchased on July 15th I was wonder what Guitar Kurt used when they recorded this song as on July 23, 1993 (Roseland Ballroom, New York NY) Kurt used his Brand New 1993 Made In Japan Fender MG-69 Fiesta Red Mustang which at that time had a Red Tortoise Shell Pickguard and a White Seymour Duncan JB Jr. in the Bridge Position and The Schaller Strap Locks, and the last 2 Songs Kurt used his 1970-1971 Sunburst Univox Hi-Flier Phase II which Kurt used 6 months earlier on the Emcore of the 01/23/93 Rio Show, Then August 6, 1993 at King Theatre (Mia Zapata Benefit), Seattle, WA Kurt used his 1965 Sunburst Fender Jaguar, then September 25, 1993 Studio 8H, NBC Studios (Saturday Night Live), New York, NY Kurt used his 1968 Univox Hi-Flier Custom Phase I
So between July and September 1993 Kurt Used the Fender Fiesta Red Mustang, Fender Sunburst Jaguar, Sunburst Univox Hi-Flier Phase II and Sunburst Univox Hi-Flier Custom Phase I (wonder If he used any of these? My bet it's the '65 Jaguar), but also In the Heart-Shaped Box Music Video filmed August 31 & September 2, Kurt had a White Univox Hi-Flier Phase IV, or Kurt could of totally used the 1969 Fender Lake Placid Blue Competition Mustang, The Custom Ferrington Mustang, etc... and What Pedals as the Feedback and Gain sounds nothing like his Boss DS-2, Tech 21 SansAmp, Electro-Harmonix Small Clone and Polychrous.... I know Kurt and Dylan Carlson from Earth used to buy every MXR pedal they found In Pawn shops, (and I Only know of 2 times Kurt used an MXR pedal... At the December 3, 1989 Astoria Theatre London UK show which was the last show of their first and Bleach European Tour, so Kurt and Krist switched pedals Kurt used Krist's MXR Distortion+ and Krist used Kurt's Boss DS-1, and the second time on April 7, 1992 on the recording of "Curmudgeon" from the Laundry room Studio, Seattle WA Kurt used a MXR Phase 100... (And kind of used a third one during the In Utero Sessions at Pachyderm Studio Cannon Falls MN February 12-26, 1993 as Kurt used Steve Albini's X Pedal (which was a MXR Limiter pedal, that Steve's friend Mr Bill sanded off the M and R and Limiter and Change all the electronics Inside building his own Frankenstein type of pedal he called "Pedal X" which Bill gave to Steve, which may of used, as we know Kurt used Steve's Veleno Aluminum guitar which they Re-Strung Lefty for Kurt to play, he used it for the Verse of "Heart-Shaped Box" and the Second guitar parts on "Very Ape" the parts Pat Smear played when Nirvana played Very Ape live in 1994.) also Kurt had a Univox Square Wave Fuzz pedal and the Univox Super Fuzz clone pedal Earnie Bailey built for Kurt... And who knows what else Kurt owned that he never used live as we know he owned so many guitars he never used live like the 1960 Hagstrom Deluxe 90 Blue Sparkle, 1965 Daphne Blue Fender Mustang (seen in the October 1992 In Bloom Music Video and a split second in the March 1993 Sliver music video), a 60s Surf Green Fender Music Master, a 1966 Fender XII Electric which he bought at the end of the 1991 Nevermind European Tour, but got ruined In Spring 1992 at their Fairfax Apartment when they left for Tour Kurt put his Fender XII and Blue Mosrite Mark IV Guitars, a bunch of Notebooks and Cassettes of New songs that would of been on In Utero, and other things as Kurt thought If someone broke In while they were gone they wouldn't think to look in the Tub, which the sewer backed up and over flowed ruining all of Kurts Notebooks, Cassettes, and the Fender XII which had severe water Damage and made the Body Crack half way up, Kurt was really upset about this, apparently he wrote the Main Riff/Verse Riff on the Fender XII and Kurt had the same type of Cherubs Stickers on the Fender XII as Kurt had on the Fender MIJ 80s TL-62 Fender Sunburst Telecaster which Kurt can be seen playing in the Come As You Are Music Video during the solo which is being projected on the wall, which that footage was filmed on January 16, 1992 Wattles Park, Los Angeles, CA Kurt Painted the front of the Telecaster Blue with Latex House Paint and Scratched a Heart into the paint which you can see the Original Sunburst Finish, and Courtney Across the bottom, and several Random Cherubs Stickers on the front, also had a Black Seymour Duncan Hotrail Bridge Pickup Installed, and Kurt left the back of the Telecaster The Original Sunburst Finish on the Back. Which was first used live on January 24, 1992 on the Nevermind Pacific Rim Tour of Australia and Japan, Earnie Bailey offered to build Kurt a new body for the Fender XII but Kurt said It wasn't worth it... Besides all the Mods Earnie Bailey did to Kurt's guitars, Earnie did build Kurt one guitar which was the Sunburst Stratocaster used at the August 30, 1992 Reading Festival, Earnie built the Neck and Body, and Used parts from old Japanese Strats Kurt had Smashed, and some Wilkinson parts, and then added an Aftermarket Fender Stratocaster Decal sticker on the Headstock, (as If you watch the 92' Reading Festival when Kurt used the Sunburst Stratocaster you can tell the Headstock is a lot thicker then Original Fender Headstock Necks, (Kurt used that build Sunburst Strat at the 1992 Reading Festival August 30, 1992, on "Endless, Nameless" at the April 9, 1993 Cow Palace (Tresnjevka Woman's Group Benefit), Daly City, CA and then at the end of the November 26, 1993 Morocco Shine Auditorium, Jacksonville, FL.

I absolutely love and appreciate these lengthy and detailed oriented comments about Kurt/Nirvana's history. I know most people nowadays have ADHD and can't stand to read for more than 10 seconds but I enjoy it. Thanks again. You really know your stuff!

i've always wondered who the second guitarist was. no chance kurt had a looper pedal in 1993? i don't think Pat joined until that fall. it's also wild to hear (i assume kurt) use a wah
the only people listed as present on livenirvana are kurt, krist and dave, but that could be them just not knowing

@@rarestnirvanaI assume it's like the Brazil demos and he just dubbed one more layer. Like how the bootleg fragment of "Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol" live from the board has less going on and there's a bootleg version with sounds that aren't present on the official release.
