I really appreciated the story about Walat's. Marty Walat was a friend of mine. In a cruel twist of fate, I was in the Route 30 shelters after my first LHHT section hike that tragic night.
Oh my! I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I almost edited out that part of my video because I felt that I rambled on too long. Obviously, I left it in my video because that was one of the highlights of our first LHHT hike many years ago. I still tell the story of our time at Walat's and our conversation with Marty. Now I'm happy I left that portion in the video. Thanks for sharing this with me.
Nice video! I ran into you guys on what was your first night at the Rt 31 campsite. I rolled in a little later and stayed up at number 5. Seeing this video has really brought me back. Thanks for sharing, and thanks to Dane for all of the history.
Wow! What a small world. We met several nice people along the way so I am having a difficult time putting your name with a face, especially since one of the guys we met basically followed behind us the entire hike. I looked up your UA-cam channel to see if you did any videos that would jar my memory, but the one you had didn’t help me at all...🤣 I have wondered if anyone we encountered would see this video and recognize us and now I know at least one person has. I am happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks for leaving a comment and I'll be sure to pass your comment on to Dane.
@@GreatLakesBackpacker Small world is exactly what I thought when I started watching this video and recognized you guys as the group I saw sitting around the fire pit that day. I only talked to you guys for a minute, and I don't think we exchanged names. I got into camp around six (an hour later than planned) and had to rush to get everything done before dark. The next morning I set out at about 8 and talked to Dane for a brief moment on my way out. I only did an overnight (rt 653 - rt 30), which is why I wasn't at any of the other campsites. It was cool watching this and thinking that I had just been at some of those spots about an hour earlier. Brought back memories and has me eagerly awaiting my next trip!
Great video Brian!!! It was so much fun reliving this trip. Your editing just keeps getting better. It was a pleasure hiking with you and Ken. I really needed this break from life for a few days.
Thanks, Dane. I think most people, even those who don't typically enjoy the outdoors, would have benefited from some time in the outdoors this year. It really has been a difficult year and the outdoors definitely help wash away the dust of everyday life and "cleanse the soul" as Fred Bear used to say. I agree, it was great to see you and hike with you again. I think all three of us had fun and got along well. I can't wait for another joint hike in the future.
Was thinking of doing this in the spring,2024, how's the rocks on the trail situation. I section hiked 100 miles of the AT from Harpers Ferry to Carisle and it was highly technical.
There are some rocky portions along the trail, but nothing I considered terrible or highly technical, just typical rocky trail terrain. I've never hiked long sections of the AT like you did, but my buddy and I did some hiking in the White Mountains (New Hampshire) and we encountered the most rocky, technical terrain I have ever backpacked. The LHHT is nothing like that. I think you'll do just fine.
Looking forward to hiking it in the fall.
Great video and pics! Glad you had a fun, exciting, and safe trip! Looking forward to see more of your adventures!
Thank you for the nice comment. I am actually working on a new video right now. I hope I can have it finished in a few weeks.
Awesome Video! Thanks for posting. Can't wait to see more content 👍
Thank you. I am happy you enjoyed it.

Hey don't forget about JW and I. We would love to join you and Caz. We did the 3 sections of the colorado trail in Sept. Great time.
Hmm, I never realized my audience included...BW.😂 I bet the Colorado Trail was spectacular!
my back yard, good video
I'm happy you liked the video. Thanks for leaving a comment. The LHHT is basically in my friend's (Dane) backyard also.
@@GreatLakesBackpacker nice I live near mile marker 70 waiting for spring to start my adventures
👍
One of my favorite views was a couple of miles from mile 70 where there is a good view of Johnstown in the valley below.
@@GreatLakesBackpacker yes that is a great view i like that one as well
The LHHT is 100% one of the best in PA. I have done it a few times.
Yes, it is a great trail.
