DIY Drill Guide / Router Plunge Base
- There was a need to drill a few holes in the board that did not want to fit under my drill. The holes had to be drilled as straight as possible, so manual drilling was quite difficult. The plunge router works too hard, so I decided to do something myself that would make the task easier for me. That's how the #Drill #Guide / #Router #Plunge #Base was made
The base was made of 16 mm plywood, 10 mm acryl, 12 mm steel linear shaft and cheap flange plain bearings. The springs are made of 1 mm spring steel wire but are a little too soft, I think to make a new from 1.2 - 1.5 mm wire. At the bottom of the base, I made a chamfer (behind the camera), the result is easier to slip.

This is the best technical solution that UA-cam has ever seen 😎😉
By far, the best portable drill guide I’ve found on UA-cam. It’s as sold as a rock. It’s accuracy is determined by the quality of the tools you attach to it.
Outstanding, thanks for sharing your craftsmanship with us.
I am looking for the vertical stopper.
Nice guide on making a guide. I love that you wound and heat treated your own spring.
great respect to people who know how to work with their hands
Excellent!! What a great job, congrats!!!
I like the "not industrial = human look" of your plunge base, (particular mixture of steel/wood/plexiglass ) look like a mechanical design board tool . Nice job , easy to use , pleasant tool
This is really a very nite comment :D Thank you!
Thanks for the video & template. Really appreciate your brilliant idea!
4:45 ... oh nice one!! very clever
Pure Genius. Excellent.👍

Buen trabajo e idea, saludos desde Punta Umbría-Huelva-España.

Beautiful Jjg.... :-)
wonderfull i subscrive imideatly as soon as i see the pdf ... only one i see doing this,,
Nice jig! Some interesting tricks, like how he threads those springs. And plugging the bushings with a clamp. But freehand routing a circle inside such a tiny workpiece was giving me anxiety just watching! The builder is obviously quite skilled, DIY’ers who are not so experienced with a router would be much better off with a template and pattern bit! All in all very nice build but an extraordinary amount of work…
Bom dia amigo meus parabéns
Great tool! Thanks for the video! Pretty clear, good looking and I laught a lot when you miss and sudenly appear "SUBSCRIBE" hahaha. In fact, I'm subscribe. This is the first of your videos that I look and I will watching more. Saludos from Argentina.
Thanks for awesome comment Federico! Saludos from Poland.
I bought a used router plunge base and very easily adapted it to my drill, it took me about 10 minutes, and a total expense of 17 euros (Epoxy clay included). To be able to make what you do here you have to start by having a tools' arsenal, not to mention a LOT of free time!
I agree, adaptation of existing things is the simplest and cheapest. However, I need longer guides, I will easily put on a 15 cm drill bit, in addition to such work as the one shown at the end of the film, the router plunge base works too hard for me.
I could also buy such a guide in the store, but what would I record a movie about? ;)
@@CatLighting no
What are the dimensions
of the:
1. Metal rings diameter
2. Pillars length and diameter
3. Base plate with thickness
4. Kind of wire used for spring
Gratulacje i pozdrowionka
Do Castoramy mam 70 km ;) no i jak bym kupił, to o czym bym film zrobił?
Thank you for not removing the most basic thing from the video - there may be errors.
Creatife COOL
Waooow...
Wonderful tool . I made a drilling machine out of a typewriter. Check the design.
Good job. Carefully, the hair on your head may wind up on the drill..
Thanks for the video.
Usually when the hair begins to approach the tools dangerously, they go under the scissors and then I get back to work :) Pozdrowienia z Polski!
Saludos!
very neat build. I like the perspex base plate so you can see through to the work. One question. How did you make the compression springs, what steel wire did you use to form the springs (this was very clerver).
Thanks barry8082! I made the spring steel wire 0.5mm in diameter, but they are too soft, it is better to use a thicker wire. After forming, they still need to be heat treated, I did it with the torch and the springs work correctly, but I do not know if I did everything good. There is a lot of information on the subject on the web.
@@CatLighting Thanks for your reply. If i ever aquire enough skill, i will use your technique but use 1.00mm wire. best wishes for the new year.
What kind of wire you used to build the springs btw is amazing
Thanks George!
The springs are made of 1 mm spring steel wire but are a little too soft, would be better with 1.2 - 1.5 mm wire.
You should also remember about heat treatment of formed springs.
Do you still have the plan
Awesome!!!. I will make a miniature one for my D.I.Y , thanks, SUB!!
Making a drill press but you need a drill press to make the drill press.... I dont have a drill press thats why Im watching a video to make a drill press but didnt realize I would need a drill press to make this drill press...
Nice build good job
Where can I order the material for this project plexiglas and rods ?? Size of rods and dimensions of plexiglass. And material for springsThanks!!!
I used to buy in Poland, so links to these shops are unlikely to be useful to anyone. You have to look in the shops in your country. Cheers!
Good man!
Great tool.......are those wrist watches back? Had one 30 years ago........
Thanks!
These watches are still being produced, at this time the phone book with ten records is the best ;)
Witam super film .
Obrigado.
Estranho, a ligação funciona para mim. Carreguei novamente para o servidor, talvez seja melhor. Saudações!
Também não consigo aceder através do link. :(
Hi Could you please tell me the thickness of the wire you made the spring
Check the description :)
hay
Do you have a link for the springs?
No, I was buying spring wire only... in Poland :)
Why did you heat springs?
Springs require heat treatment after forming, I did it with a torch, by eye. Springs are doing well but I'm not sure if I did it correctly, it was the first time I did it.
@@CatLighting thanks
That's a lot.of work, but good job
You need a drill press to built one...
Deberías de ir explicando
so it's only good for perpedicular 90° holes
Exactly, I only need a stable 90 ° so I didn't complicate it.

Thanks for sharing the template 👍👍👍👍great work
Thanks for sharing the template
Hope it works for my drill. Thank you so much for template.
thanks for sharing the template, this design is simple and easy to do. thanks.
Thanks for the video, but your design is very complicated, and I certainly could not make it with the simple hand tools that I own.
Good, but I decided to buy it instead

Good solution! If you want more subs, feel free to embed your video on our homemade tools forum; looks like you're one of us :-)
Thanks! I will definitely check :)
Nice project, but you work very unsafely. 😮
The final video didn't show you used it as a router. Instead you just show how its used as drill press.
But at the very end of the video I was drilling with a router ;D
For me, the main application for this attachment is drilling, it can be used as a substitute plunge base for router but you have to take into account that it is not too stiff (only small bits) and you will need to add a depth lock.
Óppo
why don't u buy a router then return it.. or.. harbor friehgt sell angle drill jig for under $19 without coupon
Why should i? ;)
You are watching a DIY and asking why not buy?
