And the coolest thing about the SV is that it doesn't have to constantly make excuses for itself for having 72hp. It gets to get down to business, be the right bike for most riders and not have to apologize all day long like the R7 for not having 200hp.

I never felt like mine needed more, I had a jet kit and a plus 1 rear sprocket, was a rocket ship up to 90/100mph, my 99 vfr800fi gave me my 60-140 range fix
How isnt it in the identical boat as the R7? lol ...both low 70s hp pricepoint bikes lacking all the cool bells and whistles ....except the fully faired Yamaha LOOKS business as opposed to naked SV seriously what is the difference? 2 hp? As for the fairing well there WAS also a full faired SV as I recall also
My dad bought a 2020, and at 89 years old he is terrorizing back roads better than he ever could have with his old BMW R75 or his KLR650 and wonders why he waited so long, we did stiffen up the fork springs and he really notices the difference, "damn man I can take corners at 80 that I could barely do 65 on!!! Great tribute Yam!!!

I can confirm SV650 is the answer. I have had a DRZ400, Ninja 300, WR250, Daytona 675, Street Triple, and R1. I now have an SV650 and it easily is the most fun and practical bike I have ever had. Its comfortable, cheap to purchase/insure/maintain, and a hell of a lot of fun. Its also insanely reliable and it sounds good as hell.
YEP! I've had a vtr 250, cbr250r, fz6r, gs500, sfv650, cb650f, tenere 700 (which im selling cause im really just too short to properly have fun on it), and I am going to either the sv650 or the mt07 because theyre tiny in size. I just really find it hard to choose between the two. Probably leaning the mt07 because of the engine being so so good and may be slightly more reliable than the sv and easier to maintain. and I mean first valve check at 40,000km? jesus christ.
The gladius I had I converted to an sv kind of and it was so good EXCEPT for the brakes, they were absolute garbage.

Ive had a r3, grom, mt07, drz400sm, z1000 and now this.
Was a significant power drop from the z1000 but the torque, comfort, reliability, cheaper on fuel is what i was after. Also i can ring the sv650 without getting into too much trouble and its true what they say.. you’d rather ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
Ive see. People with over 300’000 & 400’000kms so reliability of these engines are unbelievable. My z1000 had 7000 and was already experiencing dramas.
Can’t wait to see how long this sv650 lasts me. Love the sound of a full yoshi exhaust. Such a dream to ride and can see myself settling down with this bike 😊
It's an amazing bike. I have a stock 2011 CB1000R and a modified 1st gen SV, guess which one I'm on almost every day lol. I love the smaller size, it feels so nimble compared to the 1000r.
I have an sv650 and daytona 675, 675 is a better bike in every way and the power is practical for the street.
Loved my 2003 SV650. Sold it when I got married and had our first son. Wife cried. Bought her a dirt bike a year later, she got her endorsement six months after that. 15 years of marriage have passed with 13 motorcycles in the garage and three sons that all ride! Still miss that SV though.

went from an r6 to an sv650 and i love the sv. its way more relaxed and still has power.
At 31 yo, never took a motorbike. I got the license last october and picked up a second hand SV650X as my first bike. The bike is so fkin solid, never had a single problem. So happy.
How do you feel about that now? I am on the market for my first after passing MSF. This was one of the "gut feel" bikes when I checked them out today, having ridden on a 250 Star cruiser for my class.
It's almost come down to this or the Honda SCL500 so far.
@@m00sing Sold it. I got a new license for unlimited bikes now and I bought a GSX S1000. But I tell you, I would buy the SV650 again any day, it's a SOLID bike. It has no weakpoints. Everytime I think about that bike only good memories come to my mind. That bike made me praise Suzuki as a brand, and I bought another Suzuki.

I tried all kinds of bikes and was so averse to sport-style, but after learning on a shitty cruiser (a Star 250), and thinking I was going Rebel 500, the dealer asked me to sit on a Honda CSL500 and an SV650, and that Suzuki felt like it was made for me. I was so mad about that. I can't stop thinking that is the bike per my gut.
How did it do for you in 30/40 commuter situations? I was a little concerned that a bike like that will struggle at the lower speeds I'll be inclined to ride a while. And thanks so much for your reply!
My ‘18 SV650 is my daily driver. It’s a great little bike! Nice torque, easy to maneuver and really fun to ride. I have a ‘15 Duke 690 and I’m almost ashamed to admit that I like my SV more. It’s not the fastest bike out there but it fits my needs perfectly.
Exactly! I have 2012 SV650 and a 2018 R6. Obviously the R6 is faster, but I just love the balanced riding I get with the SV. Still has plenty of torque and can corner with the best of em. I highly recommend it !
I rode a friend’s SV650 when he was out of town. I liked the ride better than my GSX-750 at the time. It’s a main reason I chose the Duke 390 over the RC390. I would get a SV650 for sure. Great motorcycle.
how tall are you? tried a mt-07 and it feels cramped
@@sch3l3 I’m 5’8 and about 140lbs. I’ve never ridden or sat on an mt-07 to be able to compare the two. The SV is a great fit for me personally. I used to take a buddy’s Husky SMR450 out and I had to be on tippy toes to ride it. 😆
@@C.K985 thank you for the response. I'm 6'1 and some 250 pounds. Hated the MT07 wholeheartedly, everything from the seating position, rear brake and clutch lever position...
After that I rode the Vstrom 650 and fell in love instantly, impeccable positioning, engine response and a magic carpet ride feeling. The message is , ride first, pay later, everything is in the eye of beholder. Greetings from Croatia.
Had plenty of big cc motorcycles in the past just purchased a 2022 sv and I very impressed. I had a ride on a 1999 sv back in its day and that seamed to stick in my mind for 23 years just couldn’t shake it.
I bought a 2022 as well a month ago because I sold my 2nd gen 4 years ago and missed it and no bike filled it's void.

I think one of Suzuki's biggest missed opportunities is not offering enough different bikes that utilize the SV650 platform. They should take a page out of Yamaha's book with the CP2 platform and make bikes that actually compete with the MT-07, R7, and Tenere 700.
They should bring back the SV650SF with the fairing and windscreen

The SV650 isn't the answer to everything, but I would it probably is still one of the legitimate best go-to's for the "I've just got my license and want a 600cc-class bike, what should I get?" question.
SV's have been around for nearly 25 years (1998 in the UK) and so there is literally an SV for any budget. Some old commuter hacks are getting a bit... crusty but equally there are some really nice examples. They did the naked, half-faired and full-faired versions, you can get anything from full three-piece luggage and a big touring screen to the off-road mods.
And that V-twin actually sounds quite nice as well. There's a lot more soul in that engine than most parallel twins which just sound like lawn mowers (Versys 650, lookin' at you...). They still make great Motorcycle School bikes as well, so a lot of riders in the UK will have taken their first mile on an SV.
Yeah it is kind of lazy to have made so few upgrades and changes, but the relative skill level of new riders is the same so it's legitimately in the "it has enough performance" category to give new riders the greatest thrill of their lives without being so fast it's their last thrill.
Is the SV650 the answer to life, the universe and everything? No. Is it the answer to the "first 'big' bike" question? Yeah, probably.
My 2017 sv650 was my first bike, got it about a year and a half ago and I've put around 15000 miles on it, I ride it every single day and I absolutely love the thing, extremely reliable, looks like a racebike to normies and its sooo comfortable, I have no complaints about the bike whatsoever
I love my ‘17. I commute on it too and have had it for 2yrs. Always getting compliments on it.
I had one for 14 months and about 15000km as my first LAMS bike - great little bike. Reliable, comfortable and cool.
@@Romoto828 yes its so good for commuting, best thing I ever did to the bike was buy some soft luggage bags for it, doesn't really look the best (doesn't look bad for say) but it's made living on the bike sooooooo much easier with the extra storage, not wearing a backpack
Bought a new, blue S in 07. (wanted a Monster but you know) Road it across the country. Did the dragon and way more. It never skipped a beat in 45k. Sold it to a friend to learn on when I finally got a Monster in 17. He sold it to another friend to learn on when he bought a new SV, who sold it to another friend to learn on when he bought an MT07...Great bikes!
My girlfriend just got a 2013 Gladius with 7,000 miles. It's light and fun and pretty much perfect for her as is...and we got it for a steal.
Not everything in motorcycling is about going faster or upgrading everything and pigeon holing yourself into a bike that's not really enjoyable to ride anymore because it shaved a second or two at the track.
Some people just want a reliable bike that's good at just about everything...and the SV is that bike.
I have an SV1000 and it's been insanely reliable over the years. The only thing I've actually had to change on it is oil, tires, brake pads and chains...it's not stock, but it didn't suck when it was. 🤷
The SV650 is the answer to everything.
Want a fun bike you can both commute, and spirit ride? SV650.
Want a bike that you can both ride in the street, and race in the track? SV650.
Want a bike that can last more than 100K miles? SV650.
Want a bike that can do everything in the street? SV650.
It's just a good all-rounder bike.
My first bike was an sv650 and I've owned a few since then. I still love them and have been on the lookout for an sv1k recently.
Great video. I love my 2002 SV. Since I’m a new rider, it’s taken a lot of abuse but it always starts right up and keeps on going. It’s been a blast to ride.
This is the first video that ever made me feel cooler to have my 2009 Gladius that I love so much! Lol I know people didn't take well to the look, but it's not bad and has aged well. Runs great!

I agree with yam about the stepping stone bike. I have a 2000 sv as my second bike. It’s definitely going to be the bike I keep to ride for nostalgia but Im already wanting some more power

I bought one back in January to have something while I rebuilt my magna transmission, it is the most mod-able bike ever and it has all the power someone who rides every day needs.
Waiting to pick up my sv650s next week sometime. I reckon a couple of years with it and I'll be ready to upgrade to a newer sv650 ;)

I'm currently on a 125 and by the end of this summer I'll sell it to get a car, and by next summer I hope to have saved up for, and done my a2.
I am thinking of getting a 2nd gen sv because torque doesn't get restricted as much so its still going to be a punchy bike and faster than a restricted bandit 600 (also means I don't have to do ought with carbs) and I think it looks beautiful.
It's a bike capable of both offering a touring package with fun riding dynamics so it's going to be a perfect way to step into riding big bikes. And when I get my full license I'll be able to unrestrict it and have a more powerful bike.
They're pretty affordable too, usually around the £2.5k mark which is key as I don't have the biggest of budgets
Uk guy here.
Had been on a 125cc license for a few years. Then took full bike test with training schools '18 SV. Passed and really enjoyed the learning experience on it - low down torque and anti-stall great for a first time big biker.
However I felt to own one as a first bigger machine a step too far for me (🐈 ) and went down the cheap gs500 route - doesn't have the speed and feel of the Vtwin but thinking most of my riding is commuting it makes sense for now.
I've owned 3 SV 650's and 1 SV 1000!! I love the SV's. Always go back when I want a dependable bike!!!!!!
started my life on two wheels with 17 sv650, loved the bike, but wanted something faster for track so I traded in for 20 zx6r.....but realized my back and wrists can't handle supersport, so I ended up with Tracer 900GT and TU250X.
SV 650 wasn't a fast bike, but it really was an enjoyable bike. Just like my preference of reaping twisty roads on TU250X over my Tracer 900GT
The SV650 crowd tried to recruit me....I ran as fast as I could! I do not regret having 2x the torque of a sv650..... It's a great learner bike, but it's starting to show it's age.... I'd better try a blend of dezmos running on monster energy.

I just rode my SV650 from Nashville through the Ozarks, down to Austin for the MotoGP races - even met Spite in the parking lot after he and some folks had just bump started a Harley - then across Louisiana to Natchez, on to Birmingham (Barber! Barber!) and home to Nashville. 2,660 miles in fourteen days; five of which were hanging in Austin. I’m ready for another bike - can’t decide what - but I’ll never get rid of my SV!
My yellow, curvy sv650s is 20 this year, 80,000 miles with one partial engine rebuild, some horrific electrical bodging and still a daily rider all year all weather!

Probably the most fun I’ve had on 2 wheels for 20 years… bought a 2020 svx (with flat bars rather than clip ons) as an all weather runabout as a second bike to my panigale 899, but I’m sold on its simple,easy and fun loving charm.. no it’s not perfect, but I’m looking forward to tailoring this to my needs.

I have a 99 SV. Did the Zx6R rear shock, racetech emulators and jetted it properly. The bike is so fun and fast enough to get you into trouble if you want.

Just got an 07 sv650s to complement my DRZ400s.going back and forth between bikes keeps the sv feeling like a rocket. Having a "low power" and "high power" bike keeps it feeling quick.
I have a '21 sv and I love it, I've been very much considering doing the suspension up as its really the only place it's lacking for street riding. Brake upgrades would be nice but as I'm keeping the ABS it's always going to be a little mushy and theyre plenty strongs as is
I’m diggin putting around on my 85 Honda 650 Nighthawk. Low miles, low maintenance, has gobs of “state of the art” stuff: self adjusting valves, anti dive forks yadda yadda and plenty of power, most of all it makes me smile when I can disappear for awhile and clear my head.
LOVED my gladius. the only thing wrong with it was the baluga whale headlight. i replaced it with twin round headlights. Paired with a gixxer USD front end which is an easy mod. still regret selling it to buy my current s1000r :(

I trained and passed my test on a Gladius, absolutely hated it and was glad to pass my test and never see it again.
The only thing I don’t like about my Gladius. Would love a mod/part list and pics of how you changed the front end.

SV 650 was my driving school Bike ( in Europe we must do a real driver licence for a bike) I loved it back in the days its a simple pure easy bike
I've been riding over 20 years, have had many sportbikes, cruisers, super motos, etc. and recently picked up a 2018 sv 650 dirt cheap. It is an amazingly easy bike to ride with enough power to excite most noobies without killing them. I would highly recommend it for smaller intermediate riders or advanced beginners.
My sv is not the fastest of bikes but, at road speeds, it's plenty fast enough to have fun. It's cheap and uncomplicated, makes a nice noise and I like it.

I got a VStrom and am mostly glad it did... Just because of the application in how I use it.
spent £2500 for my gen1 sv650 with only 9k miles on the clock, it now has a delkevic system, hyperpro springs and oil in the forks, hyperpro rear spring on the shock, new pilot 4 tyres, stubby levers, and love it to bits

Yep. Pretty much nailed it. The SV650 is a great, inexpensive, reliable, all-rounder, naked bike. I had an 03 SV650 as my second bike and it couldn't have been more perfect for me at the time. Eventually, once I learned more about my riding preferences, I wanted more wind protection, touring comfort, and some off-road capability. So, guess what, I got a V-strom and its been great too.
I'm still in love with the design of the OG S-Model from '99. Unfortunately, the bike was too small for me. Was about to buy a 2008ish SV650 S last year, but couldn't find a decent one with ABS that wasn't completeley overpriced.
Still wish that Suzuki made a new S model with the half fairing and clip-ons. Maybe bump it up to a SV750 S with 85-90 hp.
I managed to buy a sv650s from ‘99 for 1650 euro, dirt cheap since even 50cc scooters cost that much here I found it by chance and damn I’m happy with it
I sold my SV650 3 weeks ago and bought a XSR700 (the retro-styled MT/FZ 07) back, i like the XSR more than the SV even there are more points of annoyance that the SV didn’t had.

I had my license for about 8 years or so, my first bike was a 2001 VFR800, then an ST1300, now a Vmax 1999.
I test rode the latest SV650 and I'm sold, in the process of selling my Vmax to get an SV650.
It's got plenty of power, hangs in the corner so nicely, comfortable, reliable and is also quite economical on fuel and sounds great with a good muffler. And it looks nice too with the right color schemes and they're relatively cheap to buy and to own.
What more would one want from a street bike?
I started on an SV650 and really think it was a great bike to start on. Enough power to get to speed and mess around with but not enough to totally Yeet yourself. Then I got an Aprilia Tuono 1000R and ever since the SV has felt slow but I still miss it wish I hadn’t sold tbh I would still commute on it I used to get over 50 mpg on it
The first bike I fell in love with was my 3rd gen sv650 I absolutely loved it but unfortunately last year I got into a serious car accident which ultimately resulted in her being written off couple months later I was mentally and physically ready to ride again but I couldn't buy another sv as it wouldn't feel the same to me and I'm currently on a mt07 which is good but if I could ho back In time I'd stick with my sv
Thats what my other option is (as a beginner). I hear the 07 sounds nicer, but the sv is just an all around smoother ride. Also the plastic rubs me wrong. Is the 07 that bad when u compare the price?
@@ezrajames8858 I bought them both for the near the same price with similar mileage my 07 is a first gen 2015 and my sv was a 2017. I personally think the sv sounds nicer and the 07 isn't that bad suspension is a bit budget though
Had my 2017 for a year now. Ive done some simple aesthetic mods and that’s it. I’m not doing any suspension work or even a headlight. I’d rather just get a different bike that’s ready to go tbh

I’ve had three SV650s. An SV650S, a V Strom and yes (gasp) a Gladius. I only ride solo and the SV is all I need. Now at 72 I’m considering selling my Bonneville and picking up a fourth SV. It will cruise all day at illegal speeds (or so I’m told 😬), has torque to burn and is pretty comfortable for my boney old ass. My only issue are the front suspension and getting used to first gear slow manoeuvring. I’ve commuted on it and played “Ricky Racer.” Love that bike.
Traded my ‘19 SV in for my ‘21 MT-09 and I gotta say I loved my SV and I still miss it but when I twist the throttle on the MT I forget about it quick.
Odd....i went from a sv650 to a 2015 gsxr1k...and i just went and bought another sv......i like it.

Uh, thought it was pretty clear the FZ/MT-07 dethroned it years ago? I sold my 2007 SV650 for a 2016 FZ-07 already. Curb weight matters.

Sv650 was great up until 2008 and then went downhill in 2009 when the Gladius came out. Many agree its not even close to the same bike. Ive had a 1999 and then a 2008. Absolutely loved the 2008. Didnt make much power but made up for that with how well it handled. Although I currently ride a 2010 aprilia tuono 1000r and this is a whole different animal. Way faster, bit heavier but still handles awesome. Power wheelies in the first few gears are fun. Love the dual leovince pipes. Had a delkevic on my 2008 sv650 that sounded good too. Also owned a 1999 suzuki tl1000r and that bike was a blast. Would love an sv1000 but they don't pop up for sale often and when they do people want way to much for them.

The old sv1000 still have a few issues unfortunately like the rotor magnets that can break the motor or a very high fuel consumption (suzuki as good as ducati in fuel economy for their Vtwins)
I have watched tones of videos of mid size bikes 500cc to 750cc and I was sold on the MT 07 but it sounds like u can't beat the SV 650 because of the quality, HP for it's size, reliable, and one of the biggest all that for a price under 8000 dollars when the versy runs 10000 thousands and most of others are between 8500 to 9500 all the reviews I have read are great and satisfying to have the SV 650...

I did my DAS on a gladius, they're nice man. Grear handling, seat is uncomfortable though after a few hours and i don't think the mid band is great compared to the low end power
Used to have a WeeStrom 650 bought new in South Africa in 2010 and had it for 10 years. Sold it when I moved to the US. Thought of buying a SV when I realized that the conditions where I live here in PA does not justify an SV. Downgraded to a Yamaha XT250. Riding anything faster is not worth it with all the deer around. 76mpg and 76mph just works fine for me as for a huge chunk of the riding community around here. Suppose if you live somewhere where the countryside is much more open and not up and downhill all the time a SV would be a blast.
Damn. And I just bought new sunglasses hoping they fit comfortably in my helmet. If they don't work out I'll have to check out flying eyes
The LS650 crowd is in the same boat, Suzuki graced us with a 5 speed gearbox a while back but other than that it's been basically unchanged for 35 years

Nah, not overrated. It’s the only bike I would’ve been likely to buy besides the one I ended up buying: a new 2021 DR-Z400SM. I still think the SM was the right call for a first bike between the two because the power is more manageable for a beginner and the handling at low to moderate speeds on the roads around here is simply better. And it gets better MPG. And it’s got a great look. And it’s very reliable.
Had a 99 model fun bike. Moved up to the TLs what a lovely bike. Shame that they discontinued the bike
I’d take an SV650 over any Aprilia any day of the week. SVs are great bikes.

I bought a 2019 SV650 with 7k on the clock two months ago - rode it 200k's to get back home (after not having ridden for 17 years!) and enjoyed the whole ride =^)
I've had my sv650x for nearly a year, I love it recently I installed the dual Leo vince slip on exhaust and the sound is now awesome, I plan to install soon the motodemic led headlight, I don't need any more.power at all
Also fit a 180 rear . It'll corner on rails
@Daniel Saavedra I own the standard SV650 and I did the same mods to mine. The Leo Vince Dual sounds amazing. I installed the Motodemic LED headlight and it looks great and is very bright. I like the look of the Motodemic Adaptive headlight more though. Hindsight, I wish I would’ve spent the few hundred dollars more and bought it instead. One thing I want to add about the Motodemic headlight. It’s very bright, but the light itself looks small when looking at the headlight. So it would probably be more difficult for drivers to see in the daytime. I installed a set of Denali Electronics daytime running lights on the front fender. They work great and are very bright. Another easy mod I did was replace the stock engine filter with a K&N filter. I noticed a little increase in power.

@@l-mac5105 that's cool, it think I'll go for the adaptive headlight, in my experience drivers don't really see you in daylight, that's how an idiot destroyed my duke and made me fly, so I drive as if I'm invisible since I kind of am to most idiots on cars.

I have. 89 Honda Hawk 650gt and this is actually what the Ducati monster is based off of…check it out…identical.. but I would be interested on your take on the bike.. I had one... fun bike to tool around on, reasonably light, cheap to buy, cheap to operate. However I couldn't come to terms with the bargain suspension components.
About a month ago I was looking for a new bike and was unsure because I regretted selling my 2nd gen sv650 and no bike ever replaced it in 4 years so it was the right answer for me and am very happy except the seat sucks bad absolutely terrible they wanted us to pay for not paying more

My first bike was a 2006 sv650s half faring twin headlamp, cool looking blue. Should have kept her.
Ok the thing is that I want a sv, alongside my cb1000, just cause I’m tired of heavy 1000cc that just wants to give me a ticket, the 650 is content at the speed limit, unlike my cb that just wants to keep goin faster when I’m already goin 80 in a 55 (country routes). And I’m kinda sad yammie didn’t mention how well they like to just cruse and not get you in trouble like the big bikes
At this point I just watch the videos to see how Yammie is gonna say torque. That alone is worth the price of admission...

I have two One sv650 and the sv650f my F has 690k miles and the other has 347k miles I love them they're both 2006 both brand new. Great bikes. My new project is a 01 TL1k and a 79 xs 850 triple.

I haven’t ridden the sv650 but I own a 2019 xt vstrom which I think has the same motor I’ve had it since new and have put 34000 ks on it and I still love it not as fast as my zzr1100 but I think I have more fun on the vstrom
I have the mt07. Awesome bike. I'd love to try the sv650. Anyone here have decent experience with both? What's your conclusion?
