  • Matt removal without scissors or clippers. Using a comb and working the corn starch to the base of matt, it can be combed out.

This is one very chilled-out cat. There is no way my cat Tammy would allow me to do this as I doubt i would have a hand left LOL Thanks for sharing though

Omg! That is a veeery patient cat! Mine hisses at snaps at me if I just touch the mat with my fingers, no comb even involved! I get that it should be a good solition. But over here, it's required two persons in full body armor carefully untangeling mats. Slightest yanking in/touching of mat leads to full om attack & ecsape attempt...

CBD oil 5 drops in mouth, or put in yummy food. Also saw a video lady used small curved scissors to carefully cut matts, thinking the talc and scissors combo may be a good way. I saw the advice of CBD’s from a vet, so it is sound, can also use rescue remedy.

@@odettegordonyo The Vet I just watched online suggested only 2 drops of the CBD oil for a cat (His was 20 pound cat!),
So a lighter weight cat needs probably only 1 drop!
Five drops sounds like way too much unless it's in a very dilluted solution.
I use the small, curved scissors and it works great, but you still must be extremely careful of the cat's very thin and delicate skin!
I put the length of my two fingers together between the matt and the cat's skin, then cut above my fingers to be sure their skin is safe.
I have also used the egde of the same scissors to gently shave away the fur at the base of the matt. (NOT the skin!!) 😊
I think that it's actually safer than cutting, and it works quickly.
I gently move the matt away from the skin as much as possible and then use the long blade of the curved scissors to shave away at the fur base without coming near the skin. (The curv should be away from the body).

@@pat4005 it’s bad to go based off of drops as different bottles of CBD oil have different concentrates of CBD. 2 drops of one bottle may be equivalent to 5 drops of another.

I would’ve never thought to use corn starch. I have been trying to get my cat’s Bob Marley dreads out and it has not been easy. I’m going to wait a bit longer to try again to avoid my cat not murdering me in my sleep.
I bought some CBD oil to give my cat a couple drops to hopefully chill her out. I wish it was as easy as this video…

I will try this! I use thinning shears now. Since we have been doing that he is much more patient because he knows it won't pull as much. Sometimes I will cut them with the thinning shears and wait until later to separate the hair and remove the mats. I will also rhin down the thicker parts of his hair with them. He loves it!

May I suggest pure coconut oil and a lot of patience. My cat loves it, it kind of acts like a catnip for her and she purrs right through a mat removal. I've been brushing her since she was a kitten though.

I have already tried using coconut oil on the matted fur. Is it still OK to try the corn starch or will the corn starch only make the fur harder? How does the corn starch work? My cat's fur is hard has a rock and I can barely cut through it - will the corn starch still work?

      That's very true.
My cat detests brushing, so l just use a trimmer. Sometimes she is very good, other times not and l let her go until next time.
Best time l noticed is after a nap, while still sleepy so more relaxed.. worse time in evenings as she goes into hunting mode with extra energy.
      Just an example..
When l took her to the vet - she was the sweetest and calmest cat in the world.. while at home is a little tornado hehe.. she was touched, kept in arms, had a pill with zero problems, was silent and super obedient.. l was like " Really, love? " (She wasn't scared but curious and very submissive as a result.. as new place, smells, animals there)
So for now no need for a professional groomer, yet l bet she would be very good there also if..
So you are damn right : )
