    Great video, you explained how the switches work in clear terms, your schematic and showing where to place the test leads of the multimeter really helped make it understandable. I was able to trouble shoot our 2013 Civic (same color wires on the rear door switches BTW). Watching you take the motor out makes me feel comfortable that I can do the same thing. Thank you very much!

    Great advice about not messing with door lock n open cables. I started to undo and it’s more of a pain than it’s worth. Propped the door panel against the door like you and replaced my window regulator n motor likity split. Thanks for doing this vid. Your channel is one of my favorites. Good engineering approach. Triple thumbs up !

    Just wanted to write a quick thank you note for doing this video. My rear passenger window hasn't worked for years and I finally decided to look into it. Your video was perfect for me. I'm certainly not a "car guy" and you made things simple and easy to understand. Also the tip about banging the motor and ultimately cutting the wire was wonderful. Thanks!

    Thank you! Finally, a video where the window does NOT roll down. I used lots of duct tape so the window wouldn't fall down 😅. Easy peasy! Except I did this on the driver's side.

    Probably cheaper to just pop the motor case off once you have the whole thing out, and examine the motor directly. I did that with mine and tinkered with it some. Cleaned the motor shaft where it makes contact with the 2 electrical pads. As well as bending those 2 pads inward slightly to give them back a little extra force to the motor shaft so they dont lose contact which I think might have been going on since the motor its selfs looked pretty good actually. Seems to have worked so far, I'll update later on how well this helped me. As of now though, Its working for me, and for free =).

    This is an old video, and thanks again ;with this i was able to fix another Civic with 2 front windows not working, I replaced both regulators 2 years ago and today the wife informed me both front window were not working again, this time again with the help of you colored drawing I isolated the problem and replace 20 amp blow fuse #30 , and the windows are working again, we’ll see if I have a motor starting to go later.

    GREAT Video! I fast forwarded through the troubleshooting, knew it was the motor. I have changed them before and did the tape method to hold the window. PLEASE NOTE, spend the extra 15.00 or 20.00 and get the suction cups. Thanks to the tips given on this video, One about not taking the cables loose from the panel and just laying it to the side and the suction cups to hold the window, it too me 24 Minutes from start to finish and the window works like a champ. I learned a lot from the video. Funny thing is that what he said in the first minute is what helped me most. I had my panel removed and was about to start the troubleshooting process and his off the cuff comment about the disable button was my problem. I had not even thought of that. I wasted a lot of time learning how to open it up and all I had to do was push the button. If I had watched this video first I would have saved a lot of time.

    P.s... the motor "stopoed" working again because you disconnected and reconnect the same wires when your tried to put the window down and it was connected to go up.... But either way it was a bad motor.. just wanted to make note of that lol

    Hey. Old video i know, but see that circular cap beside the motor? You can pop that off and wind the window down manually with a needle nose pliers. Saves from cutting the cable and leaves the opportunity to repair the motor. A lot of times the motor is electrically good, but a failed bearing can cause it to bind up.

      Thuong Ngo Could be any combination of regulator/wiring/switch/fuse. I would do basic power/ground checks at switches and motors. That generation Civic is notorious for bad regulators (but so are many other Hondas). If both went out at exact same time, look towards driver switch.

    So both of my rear windows stopped working at the same time on my 08 4 door civic. They both went down and when I tried putting them up, neither would go up. I've tried the master switch and both doors switches, I checked the fuses and both the 20V fuses are good. I doubt it is the motor, because both windows stopped working at the same time. I am curious as to what you would think would be broken and how to fix it. My guess is that what would be broken is something that controls both rear windows. I am confused because at the interior fuse box, the power is already split up between all windows and then it goes to the master switch. I'd be grateful for the help as I'm pretty lost on what would be wrong and am not sure how to know without checking every connection.

      Honda recommends resetting the Power Window Control Module(s) anytime the run channel/glass/motor/regulator/master switch/passenger switch (with control module) are replaced (or worked on) on a door that has the Auto Up/Down feature. If the window/door being worked on does not have the Auto Up/Down feature then there is no module to reset. Of course if one wanted to reset the Master Switch Control Unit after working on another window there is no harm in doing so.

    Thanks

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 років тому

      Sounds like it needs some troubleshooting done so anything I tell you here would be a guess. Thinking critically, if it went up (power/ground most likely good) and if you replaced the switch at the problem door then I would look towards the master switch in drivers door. The ground runs back through the master and if one of the contacts in master switch for that window are bad, the window wont work in one direction. Some tests with a test light (not new parts!) can verify this. Although not the same setup, here is a newer Honda window troubleshooting video which shows some things I think about: ua-cam.com/video/6RTKsTAU4bs/v-deo.html

    Hi, quick question. Problem on my right side rear passenger window stuck on close position. I opened my door panel and removed disconnected the motor from the regulator. Key is in ON position I’m not touching any switch down or up. But the motor keeps on turning/running none stop. But when I disconnected the wiring harness from the passenger rear door switch it stops the motor from running. Do you think the switch is stuck in down position contacting not releasing ? Motor should not run or turn not until you push the switch button up and down right? Thanks 🙂 the motor is hot when I opened the panel. There's a voltage running none stop.

    My driver and passenger windows failed over a couple days, figured out I had a broken power window control module, took it apart to see if I could fix it (they're getting harder to find) turns out it was just a couple solder points under the relays that had desoldered (prob means the relays are getting way too hot but,)

    Great video! Both of the front windows on my 08 civic aren't working. I called the Honda dealer and they told me it would be 155$ just to check for the problem. That seems really high to me. Is that a common price just for a diagnosis?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  5 років тому

      Most shops will charge a flat 1 hour diagnostic fee to diagnose a problem like that. $155 is most likely the hourly rate for that Honda dealer. That is a pretty common hourly rate for a dealer.

    Hi,
    Very detailed video.
    I wonder if you could help me a novice with my Honda civic 2009ictdi Diesel. Suddenly all 4 window switch not working. The mechanic checked all the fuses and they are okay. I checked the switch in my friend's car and it works. It right hand drive as I am from the UK. Not sure what to do.
    Thanks in advance

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  3 роки тому

      I don't see diesel Civics here in the US, but I would look for something common to all 4 windows (power/ground/relay/control units etc). Some models have a power window relay that controls all 4 windows (on some models it only control the passenger windows), it is usually in the under DASH fuse box and I would verify that is working.
      There is also usually a 40A fuse that powers all 4 windows in the under HOOD fuse box (these are different than the smaller 20A fuses that are located in the under dash fuse box that power each window), I would verify that is working correctly also.
      Grounds, MICU issues and other problems can cause the windows to not work, it may need some electrical troubleshooting by someone who knows these systems unfortunately. Thanks for the comment!

    The instructions that came with the new regulator didn't say anything about lubrication. Do you recommend adding any lubricant to a brand new regulator?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  7 років тому +1

      Nice job! Most window regulators come lubricated. If the factory did not lube it properly, I will use a little bit of white lithium grease on the inside of the metal brace where the cable slides along.

Now the rear passenger window works, but the driver window stopped working immediately after changing the other fuse. It goes up or down one small step at a time (and auto up/down doesn't work at all). Do I need to reset the Power Window Control Unit? I figured it out. Was only getting about 10 volts...in my case, the battery was low enough that it couldn't get enough power for the driver's window, but just enough for the other windows. I started the car, and all the windows worked again.

    Sir my car i20 has 6 wires on its driver side window motor connector. How to get the up and down wires for the window?

      Thang Tons Windows with auto up/down will have either 4 or 6 wires, the extra 2 or 4 wires will be for the auto feature. A wiring diagram for your specific vehicle is necessary to know for certain which wires power the motor. You can get free wiring diagrams for many vehicles from BBB Industries (www.bbbind.com).

    Big Dog50001 what meter do you have? Also how did you hook it up to supply 12v to the motor?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  7 років тому

      I used a Power Probe IV in this video. It is hooked up directly to the positive and negative terminals at the battery, which allows it to quickly sense power or ground wires on the vehicle, as well as show voltage measurements (it can do some other stuff too).
      It can send 12v power to the tip of the tool using the rocker switch, and it has a ground wire attached to tool also to provide a good ground (have to be careful sending power to circuits because you can fry components). I used those to connect directly to motor to energize it (with motor unplugged).

    *What If The Window Goes Down But Doesn’t Want To Come Back Up? Can It Still Be Fuse?*

    • @BigDog50001

      Probably not going to be a fuse, same power for up and down. i would look towards a switch or motor issue.

      Not easy to describe in a comment, you may need to find someone that has done it before because if you do it wrong you may damage other components that are a lot more expensive. Just remember, it could be the motor, the switch, the wiring in between or other things causing it to not work. Power and ground need to be applied to the correct wires at the motor for it to go up (as I demonstrated in this video). I did it with a PowerProbe, but it can be done with two wires (fused) going to a ground and the positive of the battery terminal. Many driver switches have 4 wires due to auto up/down feature so I usually look at wiring diagram and unplug motor and apply power and ground to correct wires (usually the 2 fatter wires going to motor, the 2 skinny ones are usually for auto feature). Here is a video where I test and replace a driver window switch: ua-cam.com/video/goLmhMHxR58/v-deo.html

    Why dont you just remove the side panel and weather proof plastic for easier access.?

    • @BigDog50001
      @BigDog50001  4 роки тому +2

      Because when you do this all the time you find ways to work smarter. The way I showed is faster, easier with less chance of breaking the plastic door cables. If you want to take them off on your car then by all means do it.

    OOPS..... I COULD ALMOST SEE WHAT YOU WERE DOING ..... MOVE THE INNER DOOR PANEL OVER JUST A LITTLE BIT TO COMPLETELY HIDE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
