Nice video! Just one thing: John Paul Jr wasn't arrested because he was involved in the drug trade (he knew about it, but his involvement was never proven). He was arrested because he refused to testify against his father.
The IRL from 1997 to the mid 2000s was dominated by the Delphi onboard cameras. They were everywhere, and Sharp was usually getting into some sort of trouble more often than not. ABC7 Chicago, not LA, storm was roughly around Joliet IL from the counties Always wondered how JPJ won again. Keep up the good work
Ahhh thanks for clarifying that. I did not know there was at least two ABC7's lmao. Makes more sense though, for that type of weather in Joliet. Will do! I appreciate that.
A quick note about John Paul Jr's other Indycar win at the Michigan 500 in 1983: Rick Mears (who John Paul Jr passed for the win) crashed hard into the outside wall after this & then was hit by lapped car of Chris Kneifel. Mears had to go to the hospital for concussion symptoms because of this accident. This race was also plagued by a two hour rain delay due to thunderstorms & a 64 year old woman sadly died of a heart attack as she was exiting the grandstands. In addition 8 people were injured when the canopy for the NBC cameras blew off the roof of the main grandstand and hit them.
So, if you look at the footage of the blown tire with 10 to go again, you'll see that JPJ saw something wrong with the lap car, he makes a sharp veer to the left just a second before that tire explodes, which also helped him avoid contact with the spinning car... So it was that quick reaction that kept him in the lead
Did Boesel ever win anything outside of the Jaguar/TWR program as far as top level racing goes? I always associate him either with the Dick Simon duracell car in CART or the Jaguar prototypes in WSC/IMSA around the late 80s/early 90s for some reson
He never did win an American open wheel race despite making 209 starts across 3 different sanctioning bodies of the sport. He did not have a very good F1 career either. Only finishing 1/3 of his starts.
It should be pointed out, that was Mike Geoff’s car starting in the 97 season. They chose Infiniti power which hamstrung them until they switched to Oldsmobile power however by that point the ol’ revolving door of the driver choice of the week started until they settled on JPJ.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy JPJ drove for three separate teams that season. He did however drive the majority for Byrd-Cunningham. His first race for the team was the first Texas race. Would have been an even wilder stat if he won that one.
…….good stuff DEMISE90….well done and the entire race compressed into a short video was nicely done as well. Keep em coming cuz, we’re watching em and reminiscing bout good times in open wheel competition!🏁
Hey mate, love your work. I'm wondering if you know where to find any downloads or DVDs of 90's/00's CART/IRL/Champ car videos, can't find anything outside of UA-cam. Just want to watch in the best definition possible!
1997 to 1999 they had to use 90 degree crankshafts like a stock type V8 typically would, in 2000 they were given the choice of 90 or 180 degree cranks (the engine is like two four cylinders sharing a crank). 2001 to 2011 the engines all had 180 degree cranks, which are lighter but vibrate more.
I didn't know Mike Groff was an announcer, but he sounds entirely in over his head on this, did he call the whole season however. Makes me wonder why Groff was picked to work the booth with Paul instead of someone more experienced though. Is it just me or does Groff sound like he's just completely and utterly overwhelmed? I get being nervous on a broadcastt, but I feel so so osrry bad for him
Question: I always thought Kenny Bräck's surname was pronounced "Breck", and notice the commentators use that but you say "Brack". Answers on a postcard 😂
His father is Living on his boat in Thailand or some no extradition country wanted for his wifes or girlfriends murder after being realeased from prison

Correct! May he rest in peace

@@Demise90Racingyeah I have an ABC 7 from where I live
@@Demise90Racingtbf I looked it up and there's about 20 different stations that could be ABC 7

@demise90 I believe that's a Chicago broadcast as Kendall and Will counties are where Aurora and Joliet are.
Yeah someone pointed that out. I never realised there was more than one ABC7 lol. When I googled it I was plastered with LA SoCal stuff lol.
At first I thought this may have been the day of the E5 Plainfield tornado as it was listed on screen. It was two years later.
RIP John Paul Jr. 🙏🏻 ❤
IRL/Indycar, Texas race is Great Go back and build it up again, RP.

IRL/Indycar build up the race in Phoenix, and LV, too.

This race is Trackforum bait.
I was/am a huge John Paul Jr. fan (RIP)
Next year,Indycar At Texas didn't schedule for 2024 season. Just Millwauke mile speedway right?
Yep. No Texas unfortunately. But they added a double header at the Milwaukee Mile. And they still have Iowa.

I was rooting hard for JPJ to win that day and was so excited to see him win that day!
Those severe thunderstorm warnings need to pick up the pace if they wanna have more race interruptions than the yellow flags 😂
Yay !!! He did it ❤
Wow, that's a lot of flying wheels throughout that race. Pretty scary without the aero screen...

Those motors sound more like silver crown sprint cars or stock cars mor than an IndyCar

How do you find all the race replays?
All the races I've done are also on UA-cam in full length.

I think he was a late addition by the sound of it. He did do the best he could despite some obvious butterflies
Sounds like a worse Eddie Cheever
Still better than Todd Harris, though...
Question: I always thought Kenny Bräck's surname was pronounced "Breck", and notice the commentators use that but you say "Brack". Answers on a postcard 😂
I hate that they made the cars sound like a NASCAR and not an IndyCar back then.
U mean?
His father is Living on his boat in Thailand or some no extradition country wanted for his wifes or girlfriends murder after being realeased from prison
What a pathetic era, if only TG had sold 25 years earlier we could have avoided a lot of aggravation.
Only thing pathetic here is u. Literally. U had to be the only one come here and say something like this?
